The 4 pioneers William horner EMILY HALES

WILLIAM HORNER William Horner was an English animation pioneer who was born in Bristol. After studying at Kingswood school he then become an assistant teacher and then 4 years later the head teacher being only 18 he founded his own school in Bath. He created the zoetrope in 1834, this device produces illusion of motion with rapid succession of static pictures. Horner also called it the Daedalus ‘’the wheel of devil’’ With this invention it didn't’t become popular until the 1860s when it was patented by both English and American makers. The zoetrope was based on the Plateau’s phenakistrope, but was more convenient since it did not require a viewing mirror and allowed more then one person to use it at the same time. The impact of the animation is that it’s the third optical after the thaumatrope and phenakistrope. The zoetrope lost popularity when the praxinoscope picture was clearer and brighter than the zoetrope.
