Senator Scott Brown Opens Up Campaign Office In the Heart of the Latino Community By Carla Gualdron

L

ast Monday night, dozens of Latino and non-Latino Scott Brown supporters gathered at 370 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain outside of the senator’s new campaign office to welcome the man himself who made a special appearance to meet and greet his followers. The new office space was donated by local merchant Aida Lopez, owner of La Casa

de los Regalos, and will be run by Gina Sierra-Nova, regional representative for Brown’s office in Jamaica Plain. As enthusiastic Browns supporters cheered on, supporters for rival opponent Elizabeth Warren lined up across the street demonstrating their support for the democratic candidate, creating a fury of political banter and enthusiasm. Many cars driving down Centre Street joined in as they

honked for their preferred candidate, creating an intense competition between both groups. “This is democracy at its best. Here we have ardent supporters from both camps, passionate and enthusiastic but civil. It’s what America is all about – freedom of expression”, stated Lazaro Lopez, a long time JP resident who will casting his ballot for Brown this November. As Brown arrived,

Embedded: Although State rep Jeff Sanchez is supporting Warren, he was warmly welcomed by the Latinos supporting Brown. “We’re all still family,” said Tony Molina, a staunch Republican and US veteran.

Warren Supporters Rain on Brown’s Grand Opening in JP S tate representative Jeffrey Sanchez and Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson were two of the dozens of senate candidate Elizabeth Warren supporters who made their presence felt last Monday night in Jamaica Plain at Scott Brown’s new campaign office opening. “It’s the beauty of democracy, we all have a right and I am glad to see Jeff (Sanchez) and Tito (Jackson) here. We are in a country that does not stifle freedom of expression. A healthy dose of political diversity is always

a good thing. Hey, if it can get people to get out and vote, I am all for it”, said Laz Lopez, a long time JP resident and proud voter. Warren supporters countered the Brown followers in a not-too-often political bantering scene right in the heart of the Latino community - Centre Street. Both Jackson and Sanchez have been very visible in their support for Warren and have been key links to the Latino and African-American community for the senate candidate.
