Useful Packaging Brief The majority of packaging today has a single use purpose. Once the product has been purchased and opened, the packaging is redundant and thrown away. The aim of this brief is to design and create the packaging for an existing product, but the packaging will have a second or on going use. The design will be concept and purpose driven with a means to aid the consumer (give the packaging another purpose). Conceptual and clever packaging is starting to serve a big purpose is today’s throw-away society. People are trying to change and be more eco friendly.

Background / Considerations What products need consideration of their packaging? Who will use this product? How will it aid them? What is the purpose of the new packaging design? Fashion Yearbook - Fashion Design Pathway B Brief Working in collaboration with Becky Tipping, Charlotte Warren and Kim Sandford design the Fashion yearbook for pathway B. Pathway A will be designed by Elliot, Ailsa and Ceara. Both fashion yearbooks should work alongside each other and separately. The yearbook will be printed and distributed to potential students and given out at the London Fashion Week. The yearbook should represent the course’s individuality without making it stereotypically ‘fashion’.

Photography Collaboration

Brief I will be working alongside a second year photography student, Benjamin Turgel. His project is based around historical jewellery with a story. It will be location documentary taken in the subject's home. My role in the collaboration will be to use Photoshop to alter the images. Benji's vision is to create high-end style images that you would see in a glossy magazine. This will help to develop my photoshopping skills. Also, I will be designing and making a publication of the images and their story. The publication will look at type, layout, stock, print finishes, binding and cover materials. Once this has been completed for Benjamin I will revisit the layout and finish to change the purpose of the magazine. It will focus on the typography and the story instead of the photography. This will help me to explore different ways to portray the same information.

Background / Considerations I need to think about the overall finish. What materials will be used? How will they alter the tone of the final book? Considerations need to lie within the subject’s interests; they may not want to be personally identified in the book. Printing costs, binding, Benji’s deadline, communication and alterations in design need to be thought about. The photography and book will be put on display in the Leeds College of Art Mosaic Café Exhibition.

Mandatory Requirements

Deliverables

Photoshopped imagery Layout book/magazine Close communications with the client

2 book designs (1 for the client & one for myself).

Menu Revolution

Brief Select 3 restaurants in the Leeds city Centre area and redesign their menu's. To fit in with my rationale they will be high end and more elite restaurants. The purpose of this brief is to highlight areas within each establishment’s menu that could be developed further to increase profit. Each menu design should be specifically targeted at making more profit for the companies and increasing the customer’s experience. The menu's will take into consideration type, layout, print finish, range, materials, stock, binding, costing, technologies.

Background / Considerations Who is the clientele? What is the establishment’s menu lacking? - Problem How will this change increase profit? Is there anything else that can be done in relation to the menu to further the idea into a range? Will the cost of the menu design make it ineffective on profits? What is a customers needs when they go to eat here?

Mandatory Requirements

Deliverables

Thought into costing and profits

3 x menu designs (1 for each place)
