“The exciting and wonderful journey of two young guys in the prime of their youth.”

we should call it “The Dream”...

I know the work is taking a long time but don’t be so pessimistic*!

So?!? How did the journey go?

Well.

If we don’t manage now, we’ll go on our journey next summer instead...

Did you have fun? Did you see some really great things?

Was it hot?

Alright!

I mean... we could take our grandchildren ...

See what I mean about being pessimistic ?!?

If you want to know more I was you’ll have just to be like a thinking surgeon* to that... get it out of them!

Yes. Yes. Yes.

China, which is ready to celebrate its status as the first metropolis with 80 million inhabitants, has reached a new record: it’s home to the biggest building on the planet! The New Century Global Centre has been opened in Chengdu; it is an enormous building which is made from glass and cement and took three years to build. It is the first experiment in history of a selfsufficient* city-building, where

Andy Murray He’s one of the biggest stars on the international tennis circuit today, placing* 4th in the world and 1st in Great Britain. Let’s learn more about Andy Murray!

Andy Murray is not a superstitious* person but he does have one particular fear: he will not hold a trophy which he hasn’t won because he is afraid it will bring him bad luck. Let’s hope that holding the Wimbledon trophy last summer will bring him good luck again this year! His love of sport Andrew (Andy) Barron Murray was born on 15th May 1987 in Scotland. From a very young age it was apparent* that Andy was a great athlete. He was asked to train with Rangers Football Club when he was 15 but he turned down the offer, preferring to focus on tennis instead. At the age of 12, Andy entered his first tennis tournament,

Basketball It’s one of the most popular sports played in the street, especially in America. Let’s get on the court* and learn how to play: it’s time for the World Basketball Cup 2014! A short history of basketball Basketball is a team sport, played in teams of five players and it is loved and played by fans all over the world. It began in Massachussetts and it was the idea of a doctor, who was also a P.E. teacher, who was looking for a way to keep his football team fit and well-trained during the winter months. It was inspired* by a traditional Canadian game called duck-on-arock, in which you have to make a stone fall from its position on a big rock, by throwing another stone from a certain distance. The first match was played on 21st December 1891: the aim was to throw the ball into a cane* basket, where it stayed (you needed a ladder to get it down again!).

Basketball was created in a gym, but it is often played in the streets too, especially in the USA where there are outdoor parks called “playgrounds”. These are now so popular that many young people have become professional* basketball players because of them!

The World Cup in Spain The 17th competition of the Basketball World Cup takes place in Spain on 30th August to 14th September. There will be 24 teams competing: The United States, winners at the last Olympics, and Serbia are the champions, the most feared*, with the highest number of medals won in history! In female basketball the American team is in first place in the league table. The World Cup takes place every 4 years and it is organised by FIBA (International Basketball 6

Federation). The first World Cup took place in Argentina as far back as 1950. Have a look at this website: www.fiba.com! Dream team In Barcelona, in 1992, the rules regarding the Olympics changed which meant that professional athletes could participate. The USA brought their NBA stars* to the Olympic Games, creating the best team of all time: a Dream Team! All the best players were included, from Michael “Air” Jordan to Magic Johnson! Obviously, the Dream team easily won all of their games!

Dear Julia, Dear Tot My name is Julia and I’m 12 years old. I started secondary school this year, where I have a lot of new friends and classmates. I like school but I’ve got a problem with some of my old friends; they are jealous of my new friendships! It makes me feel really sad because I don’t know what I should do or how to explain to them that my friendship with them hasn’t changed! I miss chatting to them about things we’ve done together but I also don’t want to ignore my new friends either. L Please help!

We receive a lot of emails similar to yours, which tell us about jealousy between brothers and sisters or between friends. Jealousy isn’t a very nice emotion, because it makes us feel sad and we start to feel bad about people who we really love. Can I give you some advice? Try inviting your old friends and your new friends together to a party or event so that they can get to know each other. Often we are jealous of someone when we are afraid of losing the friendship of someone that we really care about, but it’s not right! So, what about showing all of your friends that you can care about them and your new friends at the same time? And if you manage to convince them that you can all be friends, without excluding anyone, then you’ll be best friend number 1 J
