Wednesday Farmers Market

Come on up to the AGRI Park Farmers Market every Wednesday afternoon, 36:30 pm, this summer. I believe they are starting this Wednesday, May 24. Come enjoy a quality local farmers Market with live music, barbecue, farm fresh produce, local meat, eggs and honey. Chefs, bakers and craftsmen will be displaying their goods in the old barn.

The market is located near the T & C Feed Store, just before the Info Centre.

Ongoing

“I didn’t have time to jog this morning.”

‘You say that every day.’

“I know. It’s a running joke”

The Snack Bar

The Snack Bar is open 7 days/week in Radium. This season they are bringing back the classic grilled cheeseburger. They have already developed a pretty faithful following.

You will find them next to Blooming World on Main Street West.

If you have access to huge jumbo onions please contact The Snack Bar as they can do an amazing thing with them. These

guys are great caterers as well.

Fun Golf Day

Time flies and so do nice drives at Coys Par 3 Golf. But yes, it is almost here. The Fairmont Lions Fun Golf Day at the beautiful Coys Par 3 golf course, ten minutes south of Fairmont. Saturday, June 10 brings the 31st annual version of the fun tournament.

It is always a wonderful day of golf and fellowship with a dinner and dance afterwards. More info in the page 3 ad.

BC Wildfire

We are currently under a class 2 fire restriction. That is open burning, fireworks and more.

But campfires are still allowed as long as they are 50 cm by 50 cm or smaller. I love camping and campfire cooking. Please be cautious at all times.

He’s Back

Orion’s Seafood Bus will be here at the Crossroads Esso next weekend, June 3 and 4. If you have been on the bus, you know there is some beautiful seafood riding along. Check it out.

Food Bank

I have been to the Food Bank lately. It is quite the amazing set up with some hardworking volunteers. You can get some pretty good food. They asked that I thank all of the donors for their program, especially the grocery stores. So yes, thanks go out to Sobeys, AG Valley Foods, Joe’s No Frills, Rocky River Grill, The Station Pub and any others who contribute.

Apparently, 1 in 4 Canadians are now using Food Banks. Inflation is pretty bad right now.

Riddliculous

Seven is an odd number. How do you make it even?

How many letters are in the alphabet? What is it that no man wants to have yet no man wants to lose if they do have one?

See page 6.

Fresh Eggs

More and more people are raising chickens these days. There are 4 coops on my street alone. Quite a few of my friends have chickens so I get the occasional egg or two. Most of them eat pretty healthy food and the eggs are great. Hopkins Harvest is my favourite spot to buy eggs. They are amazing eggs there.

Done Some Gardening

Well that was a fun and producctive few days in the garden. Garlic growing, peas growing, beets popping up, raspberries and rhubarb going crazy, squash coming up and the freshly transplanted stuff is still standing. We planted tomatoes, blackberries, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, lettuce, beans, turnips, cabbage, onions and radishes. Not huge amounts of anything but I still have half my garden to play with.

We added a nice load of 10 year old horse manure to the other half and will be figuring out what is going in there.

I am pretty proud of the work so far. Hopefully they all survive these crazy storms. I am good with heavy rains but hail is a bit different.

Lots of Daylight

Wow, it is pretty much still light out at 10 pm these days. That allows for some great dog walks in the cooler mornings and evenings. Get that gardening done early as well. The plants love the cooler weather for transplants.

EVEN WHEN DISAGREEING

Robservations

This has become an interesting little community. It is quite divided right now over a few issues. That keeps a lot of people from dealing with real issues. Best friends are learning to not get along. So much of this is driven by the vitriolic, lying media. Everyone is racist, homophobic, misogynistic or supremacists. Trudeau and his media repeat those talking points often. He was pretty happy to label all the truckers that way and sadly, many people bought in to it. He has openly declared his admiration of China and their communism and what a great leader Castro was. Canadians have no history he has stated as he tears down statues and removes any Canadian history off of the new passports. No more Terry Fox memorial, war memorial or other national icons. He is trying to erase history. Right in front of every Canadians’ eyes.

But again, the media tells us it is all about inclusion. Soon we will have digital money, no guns, outlandish food and energy prices I get lots of emails saying I am a hater. And always some folks have to call anyone who disagrees with anything, a hater. When you are short on facts and truth, name calling becomes the only way to debate. I get that a few times a month for sure. And the writers of those are pretty sure that I am wrong about everything.

Cataracts

Man injured in peekaboo incident. They found him in the ICU.

Canal Flats Days

They have great community spirit down there in the Flats. Canal Flats Days is coming up soon, June 1 to 3. There will be lots of free kids’ activities as well as some tournament fun for the adults. Enjoy a market, pancake breakfast, great food, beer gardens and a dance to finish it off. Contact the Canal Days committee for more information.

Garden Centre

We picked up some beautiful flowers at the Canadian Tire Garden Centre this past weekend. It was quite busy. I now have 5 or 6 beautiful planters of flowers on my deck. I have to give someone else all the credit though.

So that was a scary night. Drew and I (Rocky) spent a nice day out for walks and wades and car rides. It was a lot of fun. Until Drew was on the couch and he started twitching and wincing, almost like a seizure. I wandered off to the bedroom as it is the coolest room in the house and soon I was asleep, out of the picture. Apparently Drew was very disoriented and unbalanced. He would not eat or drink anything and he winced when Rob reached to pet him. Then Rob’s friend came in to find me in the same state. I could not even attempt to rise as I would fall over sideways. They did a lot of quick digging and research to try to solve the situation. As Rob is a cannabis user, many people were trying to convince him that we ate cannabis. Ironically, we hate cannabis. Buds really smell bad. They came up with possibly heat or sun stroke. The symptoms listed seemed to match pretty good. Rob was squirting water into our mouths and covering us with wet towels. They hugged and rubbed us until we started to come around. Treats and drinking water became a bit more attractive.

So please be careful with your pets this summer. Drinking water for your furry friends is a good thing to have and lots of rests in the shade.

What Year Was It?

Beatlemania was born with the release of their first 2 albums, the first U.S. State lottery took place, Lester Pearson was elected as Canadian Prime Minister and ZIP codes were introduced in the U.S. The pull tab can for soda and touch tone phones were invented, the Porsche 911 and the AC Cobra debuted and Patsy Cline died in a plane crash. What year was it? See page 7.

Free Food Pantry

Not to be confused with the Food Bank, the Free Food Pantry is a food cabinet in the community. People can add to it or take some food away. It is open at 1313 10 St, 24 hours a day. It just looks like a white book exchange box nestled back in a few trees. Many of our community members contribute and many more make use of it.

Great Camping

We are definitely into camping season. Camping has always been one of my favourite things to do. It is tricky now with my health but I am hoping.

Black Sheep Campground has opened up in Canal Flats, right off the highway at the big corner. It is a beautiful spot with full service sites, glamping tents and unlimited recreational opportunities with access to the Kootenay River.

If you are looking for camping in the valley, this is a great place to be.

Canadian Sports Trivia Answer

The Philadelphia Flyers are the quickest expansion team to win the Stanley Cup winning in their sixth season in 1974. I liked the Flyers .

Canada Day Parade

It was pretty recently that July 1 seemed like a long ways away. But now it is pretty much only a month from now. Are you ready for a great celebration?

It will be a great parade. Do you have your float prepared? Or are you at least thinking about it. The parade is a great way to promote your business or organization while contributing to the community. It’s a nobrainer really.

I hope to see you all there.

Hungover

I awoke hungover to the sound of my neighbour mowing the lawn. He just had to mow around me.

Bee’s Knees

I love bumblebees, honey bees, etc. As a matter of fact, I work hard at growing dandelions as early pollination flowers. My front lawn is an amazing refuge from grass with lots of beautiful yellow flowers. Now hornets and yellow jackets are a different story. I can’t figure out how they find

Water is Good

I love water. I love swimming, fishing, canoeing and more. I love the sound of a stream as it gurgles and churns past me. I love the sight of life as it surrounds a waterway. I love watching the birds exploring a body of water. And so much more. I also love drinking water. It is the best quencher of my thirst out there. And my body loves it. Water is good for you. Drink lots of it and your body will thank you. Research shows that often when we think we are hungry it is actually thirst that we are experiencing. Enjoy a nice glass of water.

Riddliculous Answer

(From page 8) Make seven even by removing the ‘s’. 11 letters in ‘the alphabet’. A lawsuit.

Put It Out There

I have found that the best way to obtain something, whether a new place to live, a new job or whatever, is to put that energy out there. I have recently seen some amazing examples of this concept. Talk about it. Talk to God. Talk to your friends, family and neighbours. Talk to yourself and remind yourself about it. Often. Think about it. Reinforce your thoughts often. It will make things happen for you.

Ironic

Don’t be mad at lazy people. They didn’t do anything.

Crazy Weather

I used to love thunderstorms. I would sit out on the deck (under cover) and watch the clouds dancing for hours. We have seem a couple storms roll in pretty quickly. Now that I am a ‘gardener’, I think differently. I have to debate running out and covering my plants in case of hail. I am really loving the moisture that comes with this.

Happy Birthday

Thanks to all those folks who submit birthdays to The Valley Peak. Nearly everyone loves to see their name in print somewhere.

Happy birthday to my sister, Darlene, on May 26. We don’t think much alike but she still supports me.

It Was That Year

(From page 4) In 1963, a new home cost $12,600, a car cost $3,200 and the average annual income was $5,800. The first NHL entry draft took place, Alcatraz was closed and JFK was assassinated.

Feedback

The Valley Peak gets quite a bit of email, even after all these years. It is always interesting as one ‘side’ believes I write all lies and endanger the lives of my readers while the other side say it is refreshing to have someone not afraid to stand up for truth. Thanks to all the readers that are clearing out the racks, thanks to my long standing clients who have been with me through the tougher times and thanks to the new ad clients who support my freedom of speech. May was a good month with 6 or 7 new clients. I thank the Lord that some people can agree to disagree.

BBQ Season

What a wonderful time of year. In the evening I can hang out on my deck and do some grilling. I love barbecue, especially burgers. Well, and chicken, steak, pork chops or even a hot dog tastes better. Roasted vegetables are pretty tasty also. Maybe even corn on the cob.

I hope you are all getting some grilling time. It adds a tasty flavour to everything.

Procedures

They said using a banana a day helps clean out your colon. Then I found out they meant eating one.

Breakfast Time

What makes up a good breakfast? It is an important meal that kicks your body into gear for the day. Start your day right. Water is good anytime. Get a glass of water into you just to get the body and organs lubricated and ready to roll.

Fibre and carbohydrates are good. A bowl of sugar-free cereal (all-bran) or porridge is a good start. Add a bit of milk, maybe some fruit or walnuts and you have a tasty, wholesome breakfast.

Or a piece of whole grain toast with an egg or two is also fine. Just limit the butter and maybe have a bit of fruit on the side.

Where We Were

The page 6 photo shows Rocky and Drew pose for a piece of meat. Darren felt like someone was watching.

One More Onion

I have not had much success with growing onions from the little mini onion. They all stay alive but very few grow into a good, thick onion. Does anyone have success with onions?

Also, gardening is a bit tough physically. If anyone out there wants to do a bit of planting or weeding, etc, please stop in. I have some nice rich soil ready to go. I can probably afford a carrot or beet for a reward at the end.

Body Facts

The aorta is the largest artery in the human body. The ascending aorta is just over an inch (3 cm) in diameter while the descending aorta, passing down through the abdomen is just under an inch (2 cm). These vessels transport a lot of blood through the body.

Thanks

I hope you enjoyed this week’s issue. It is very noncontroversial for you this week.
