The Texas Junior Livestock Association will begin accepting scholarships applications for members of the association who are graduating seniors beginning January 15, 2012. The applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2012 to be considered for the TJLA Scholarship program. “The scholarship program has a long tradition in the TJLA. The first scholarships were awarded in 1996, so this is our fifteenth year to award scholarships to deserving members of the association, “stated Larry Lehman, Chairman of the TJLA Scholarship committee. The association has awarded more than $215,000 in scholarships since the beginning of the scholarships program. “Last year, every person who submitted a scholarship application was awarded a scholarship,” Lehman said. The scholarship form is on the internet at www.theshowbox.com. In order to be eligible for a TJLA scholarship, a student must be a member of the graduating class of 2012; he or she must have been a member of the TJLA for a minimum of four years, and they must have attended a minimum of three Belt Buckle Bonanzas and four Fall Classics in that time. They must have a grade point average of at least 3.0. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of participation in TJLA activities, academic performance and involvement in other youth activities.
