East Chicago Central Baseball Philosophy It is our philosophy that the team will be well conditioned, fundamentally sound in basic techniques and be well disciplined in offensive and defensive team strategies. Our offensive team will be aggressive both at the plate and on the base paths. We also want to make things happen by putting pressure on the defense. As a defensive team, we will need to eliminate mental mistakes and prevent our opponents from having a big inning. We must also work together toward a common goal: To be successful on and off the diamond. We must conduct ourselves in a positive manner whether we win or lose but never forgetting that a victory is our main objective. Although we cannot win them all, an honest effort to do our best each and every game will be our goal. MEET THE HEAD COACH Jorge Ontiveros 6th Year Head Coach
Head coach Jorge Ontiveros is a life long resident of East Chicago playing for EC Central from 1988-1991 under the direction of the late head coach William Morris and Armando Reyes. He went on to receive his BA from Purdue University and also an AAS Cum Laude at Ivy Tech Community College. Coach Ontiveros strongly believes in acadmics for the student athletes. During his tenure, East Chicago Central Baseball has averaged a senior playing collegiately every year. With another strong senior and junior class, Coach Ontiveros is optimistic for others to follow their dream playing baseball after high school collegiately. Coach Ontiveros is also a player in the East Chicago Astros 28-Over team. They compete in the nationaly chartered NWINABA league. The team includes some of his staff including Coach Perez and volunteer Luis Hernandez.

Head Coach Jorge Ontiveros
The East Chicago Cardinals and Head Coach Jorge Ontiveros finished last season 7-15 overall, but do return some experience this spring with five positional starters and three arms coming back. Senior Reyes Maldonado will lead the way for the Cardinals in the OF defensively. Maldonado will also be a key piece to the offensive production after hitting .333 and swiping 20 bags in 2013. Sophomore Carlos Flores and Senior D’Angelo Gonzalez will provide quality defense on the right side of the infield in 2014. Flores, a 2B, drove in 10 runs as a freshman while 1B Gonzalez batted .308 in 2013. Ontiveros will rely on senior Rey Colon at SS. Colon has not played baseball since his freshman year. Fulfilling the catching duties is senior Jesus Saenz. Saenz hit .243 last year as a Junior. Rounding out the outfield will Junior Ruben Flores (7 SB) in left and a platoon system in right with Senior Pablo Colon, Senior Jazmyn Becerra, Sophomore John Alfaro and Freshman Edwin Rosado. Completing the infield at third will be first year starter Sophomore Darion Edmond.
