It is our philosophy that the team will be well conditioned, fundamentally sound in basic techniques and be well disciplined in offensive and defensive team strategies. Our offensive team will be aggressive both at the plate and on the base paths. We also want to make things happen by putting pressure on the defense. As a defensive team, we will need to eliminate mental mistakes and prevent our opponents from having a big inning. We must also work together toward a common goal: To be successful on and off the diamond. We must conduct ourselves in a positive manner whether we win or lose but never forgetting that a victory is our main objective. Although we cannot win them all, an honest effort to do our best each and every game will be our goal. Jorge Ontiveros 5th Year Head Coach
Head coach Jorge Ontiveros is a life long resident of East Chicago playing for EC Central from 1988-1991 under the direction of the late head coach William Morris and Armando Reyes. He went on to receive his BA from Purdue University and also an AAS Cum Laude at Ivy Tech Community College. Coach Ontiveros strongly believes in acadmics for the student athletes. During his tenure, East Chicago Central Baseball has averaged a senior playing collegiately every year. With another strong senior and junior class, Coach Ontiveros is optimistic for others to follow their dream playing baseball after high school collegiately. Lastly, Coach Ontiveros is also a player in the East Chicago Senators 28-Over team. They compete in the nationaly chartered NWINABA league. The team includes some of his staff including Coach Rosado and volunteers Luis Hernandez and Carlos Perez II.

Head Coach Jorge Ontiveros
Losing four year shortstop starter Adrian Alvarez (College of Lake County, IL) and centerfielder Luis Perez (.407) to graduation has left ECC with a challenge up the middle. Time will tell on who can replace them but Coach Ontiveros is optimistic with Junior Reyes Maldonado at center and Junior Luis Rodriguez at short. Both lettered last year and have played plenty of baseball in the summer. Versatile Senior Adam Campos (14 RBI) will also be playing multiple positions in the infield when needed. It can be a long and interesting year for the Cardinals offensively with its returning 1st baseman Junior D’Angelo Gonzalez as the anchor. East Chicago Central baseball in 2013 will be young and inexperienced. The infield will be led by second year starter and junior D’Angelo Gonzalez at first. Multiple players will be competing for playing time at second with Senior Stephen Rodriguez and Freshman Carlos Flores. At 3B, senior Isaiah Pena will try to regain his form since his season was cut short due to an injury last year. The outfield will be young and speedy with second year starter Junior Reyes Maldonado solidifying the middle. New to the OF this year will be Sophomore Jordan Espino. At the other corner, it should be interesting. There are multiple players competing for playing time. Behind the plate will be sophomore transfer student Jose Rivera. Junior Jesus Saenz may also see playing time.
