About the Caring for Caregivers program:

Caregivers are vital to helping many older adults remain in a community setting The care-giving role may require new skills and support to meet the needs of their loved one. Our Caring for Caregivers program coaches family members, loved ones, and guardians who are caring for older adults to help them meet their goals

Caring For Caregivers provides 1-on-1 occupational therapy support service, training and education in the home with the caregiver to better assist in meeting the needs of your loved one. An important aspect of this program is problem solving ways to increase communication, reduce stress, and decrease wandering. Care-giving for people with dementia presents particular challenges and our program offers targeted strategies which may include providing alarm mats and stop signs to improve safety.

This program also works to increase the caregiver and care recipients safety through suggesting medical equipment, teaching fall prevention techniques and transfer training.

Caring for Caregivers is available in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Mason, Montcalm, Mecosta, Newaygo, Osceola and Lake County and is funded through the Older American’s Act. In order to qualify for services, either the caregiver or care recipient has to be over the age of 60.
