By press time on Tuesday, November 23, the absentee ballots from the First Congressional District had been counted and Representative Tim Bishop, the incumbent, led his challenger Randy Altschuler by a total of 235 votes. But the question of who will represent Suffolk County is still in the air. On November 30, Bishop and Altschuler will be in the Suffolk court office to discuss ballots that had been called into question. Altschuler’s campaign challenged 1,261 ballots; Bishop has questioned 790. A judge will hear the arguments and objections, and ultimately decide who won the election. A spokesman from the Bishop campaign said a decision might be forthcoming by the end of next week. —Susan Galardi
