their contraptions. Entries must be heavier than air, must float, must be unmanned, must be at least 36 inches in length, and must have no combustion engines or batteries or remote control systems of any kind. Rubber band is allowed, but inside the entry only. Dan’s Papers Launch may only be accomplished by a maximum of four persons running with the entry a maximum of 35 feet. Admission to watch the event is only $2 for adults and $1 for children, and this admission will also entitle the bearer to a tour of the Montauk Lighthouse, the museum inside, and walk up to the top of the light itself. There is, in addition to the entry fee, a charge of $3 for parking in the State-run parking lot nearby to Montauk Lighthouse. If the event is fully subscribed, there should be 24 contraptions per hour, or a total of 192 entries launched at five minute intervals between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Just the entry fees alone should provide over $1,000 toward the erosion control project. Awards to the winner will be made at 6:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Lighthouse itself. There will also be second and third prizes, and there will be special gifts for all participants. Spectators are advised to bring blankets or deck chairs to spread out on the lawn of the Lighthouse grounds to watch the proceedings. Food and drink will be available for purchase by arrangement of the Montauk Historical Society. Please note: As the above information is almost 20 years old, the mailing address and museum info no longer apply. For current information on the Light Hous, visit, montauklighthouse.com.
