Several Hamptons residents made appearances during last Sunday’s Super Bowl. Water Mill’s Madonna was the halftime performer, while East Hampton’s Jerry Seinfeld, Amagansett’s Matthew Broderick and Southampton’s Howard Stern appeared in commercials. * * * Many Hamptons residents joined designer Stella McCartney at the opening of her New York flagship store in SoHo, including David Lauren, Lauren Bush, Aerin Lauder, Jessica Seinfeld, Lorne Michaels, Anna Wintour and Cindy Sherman among others. The event featured a Meat-Free Monday menu prepared by Mario Batali. * * * After being called “wonderful” by Simon Cowell, 22-year-old Springs resident Lilly Merat is hoping to make it big on “The X-Factor.” The young musician auditioned with a group for the popular show’s first season but didn’t make it through. She’s applied for a second chance on the second season. East Hampton’s L.A. Reid will join Cowell at the judges’ table for the second season. The Epic Records chairman outlasted Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who were not asked back. * * * Southampton producer Patricia Watt and Joe Morton are presenting a 100th Birthday concert/play in honor of bluesman Robert Johnson at the legendary Apollo Theater on March 6. It will be a benefit for The Blues Foundation in Memphis. Artists participating so far include Taj Mahal, The Roots, Jeffrey Wright, Cassandra Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Keb Mo’, Savion Glover and Betty Lavette. Famed Shelter Island filmmaker Albert Maysles will be filming the show as part of a film on Robert Johnson. The children, ages 3 through 10, presented Officer Kim Notel, their school’s beloved Project DARE Officer from East Hampton and Firefighter Russell Jordan, a NYFD 9/11 first responder from Sag Harbor with cards, posters and a song sung by the kindergarten class. They also honored US Marine Corp, Taylor Schwartz of Westhampton Beach, who is currently on active duty in Pensacola, Florida. Children wore firefighter and police officer hats and military helmets and waved flags in celebration as they celebrated their three Local Heroes. * * * Madonna halted the step-and-repeat at the red-carpet premiere of W.E. at the Ziegfeld to check in on celebrity photographer and WireImage co-founder Kevin Mazur, who suffered a broken wrist and foot and (continued on page 19)
