Cartola custom typeface/TANIA ALVAREZ Typeface designed for small pt size (4-8) to be used in maps. Inspired by antique forms of representing the world. It considers some aspects of geography as idealized information. Cartola behaves as a hybrid that balances revivals of classic typefaces like Mrs Eaves (Baskerville’s revival by Suzana Licko, emigre 1996) and qualities borrowed from key characteristics in small text typefaces. Cartola was designed for the labeling of unconventional names found in concrete maps or abstract geographies. Based on the work: “Emotional Cartography, Technologies of the Self” [2005]. edited by Christian Nold. Academic exercise/Personal project/EINA 2010
