Swimming is a great way to escape the heat. To fully enjoy your time:
Any summer travel requires planning. But traveling with a family member who has a bleeding disorder requires a few extra steps:
• Check with your physician first if your child has a medical port. • Never swim alone. • Never leave children without adult supervision. TRAMPOLINES
Trampolines are popular in the summer, but check with your bleeding disorder physician before jumping. Make sure only one person is on the trampoline at a time. Also, ensure there is a net around the trampoline and protective padding on the springs if possible. SUN
Don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun. Protective clothing is best, but you can use sunscreen that has at least 15 SPF.
• Pack your factor in a cooler with ice packs. • Notify your factor provider of travel plans in case an emergency shipment is needed. • Ask your consumer advocate for a list of hemophilia treatment centers on your route. • When flying, get a letter of medical necessity from your doctor for your factor and infusion supplies. • Wear medical alert jewelry.
