Emergency Tips Inclement weather can cause power outages, flooding, or damage to your home. This can be a serious issue for anyone on immune globulin (Ig) replacement therapy. Below are tips on preparing for a large storm. MEDICAL PREPAREDNESS

1.

Know the temperature range to keep your medication stable—don’t let it get too hot or cold. This information can be found on your medication box, package insert, medication website, or by calling your pharmacy.

2. Keep your medication in its original packaging to protect it from light. 3. If you use a pump for your infusion, have extra batteries or a battery pack on hand. Charge rechargeable pumps prior to the storm.

4. Put all ice packs in the freezer and have a cooler to keep your medication cold in case you lose power. These ice packs will also help your refrigerator stay colder longer. 5. Pack a bag with 2–3 days of medical supplies. 6. Contact your pharmacy to reschedule your shipment if it is to arrive during or right after the storm. 7. Check quantities on all your medications. Refill any that may run out in a week.

GENERAL PREPAREDNESS

1.

Pack a bag with clothes, water, an emergency radio, and a flashlight.

2. Check flashlight and emergency radio batteries and have extras available. 3. Store at least two days’ worth of water for each person in the house. 4. Charge your cell phone. Portable chargers should be ready for use if needed. 5. Keep emergency health information readily available, including contact information (personal, emergency, and doctor), medical history, and medication list.

6. Check to see if your generator works and have enough gas to run it for a few days. 7. Call your local utility company if you lose power. Request to be put on the priority list for reconnection based on your medical condition. 8. Locate shelters nearby so you can go to one with power. If evacuating, share your plan with family and friends. To find your nearest shelter, visit the redcross.org/get-help, text SHELTER and your ZIP code to 43362 (4FEMA), or download the FEMA app, fema.gov/mobile-app.
