What is the DIF?

The Digital Innovation Festival (DIF), is a unique initiative to develop, demonstrate and promote technology innovation across every sector of the economy and society. DIF2019 runs over two weeks from 23 August to 6 September. Featuring the national AIIA iAwards, Digital AI Summit and Binary Shift Gippsland – the DIF has something for everyone. Join in and celebrate the ‘Victorian Difference’ that drives industry, entrepreneurs and community to not only be different but make a difference through digital technology. DIF supports the growth of our vibrant community of entrepreneurs, innovators, changemakers, thought leaders and rule breakers. Through a combination of technology utilisation and digital mindsets, the DIF champions the leaders of innovation and entrepreneurship and fosters economic resilience for Victoria.

#DIF2019 23 Aug – 6 Sep The Digital Innovation Festival harnesses knowledge to create change for business & society. It is about contributing, collaborating, connecting & celebrating – making the DIF.

International and interstate visitors, and Victorians alike, are invited to discover ‘Digital Victoria' and experience 'Melbourne Tech City’. DIF provides a chance to engage with Victoria’s innovative talent pool of tech problem solvers and participate in the range of digital innovation and technology events taking place across all regions of the State DIF is delivered though Digital Innovation Futures Victoria (DIFVic) – an Online Events Hub that promotes awareness of technology and innovation related events happening across the state all year around. About DIF The Digital Innovation Festival (DIF) seeks to engage and inspire all elements of the innovation ecosystem. Navigating the key issues, the Festival’s three themes allow people to create their own DIF experience. From emerging technologies powering investment to tomorrows jobs building digital skills and digital change makers driving inclusion. DIF prompts the question ‘How can you make the DIF?’

DIF aims to present opportunities for Victorians and visitors to engage with emerging tech such as AI, blockchain, data analytics, cybersecurity, biotech, IoT, robotics and more. DIF aims to assist businesses across all sectors to explore opportunities for innovating with technology, to manage digital disruption and become better informed about opportuinities to enhance competitiveness, possibly even to find new business models. DIF encourages events that explore what these changes will mean for business owners, for investors, for educators and students, for community groups and for government. DIF encourages collaboration to explore and forge the future.

DIF encourages consideration of the digital technology requirements of tomorrow’s workforce. It presents events that explore the impact of technology on jobs – which jobs will be automated, which augmented by technology and what new jobs will be created. Examining jobs of the future, DIF stimulates a discussion on which skill sets are likely to be in demand in the future and what combination of technical expertise and generalist business skills is likely to be required.

Socially minded entrepreneurs use digital tools to make society better, creating unique solutions to address complex problems like homelessness or domestic violence. DIF will showcase Victoria’s tech for good movement which is actively driving digital social innovation and championing digital inclusion.

WHO IS THE DIF FOR?

People

The DIF is inclusive. Whether you are a digital innovation novice, or someone considered an expert in their field, DIF embraces a collaborative learning and contributory mindset across the entire community. DIF seeks to support growth of the digital economy and creation of jobs. It aims to contribute to the success of businesses across all major industry sectors and to foster an inclusive society for all Victorians.

You are keen to be involved in the actual running of the Festival or key events and are able to volunteer your time and expertise. Students are encouraged to be involved.

Be a DIF Event Partner It’s easy to become a DIF Event Partner and have your event take place as part of DIF2019. Events that interest business and industry, entrepreneurs and startups, community and public sector are welcome to be part of DIF. The first step is to sign up and create your account on the DIFvic Online Events Hub www.dif.vic.gov.au. It's simple, just follow the steps. You may also wish to download the DIFvic Online Events Hub Guide. DIFVic is a fully self service events hub. Using DIFVic, you can manage and modify your event details directly - if you need to make a change to your program or want to refresh your messaging or branding you can do it directly, in your own time. Once your event is posted, DIFVic promotes your event and makes it easily discoverable by interested audeinces. All events are tagged with categories which allows them to be promoted to targeted audiences. Visitors to the DIFVic site can search by a range of filters to easily find events of interest. Additionally, you can save your search criteria and have alerts sent directly to your inbox. Inside the DIF is the blog and newsfeed for the latest info and special offers. Official events will be included in promotions such as the #DIFList. Once your event is posted and approved the DIF team will send a follow up email with further information on how to access the DIF branding, logo and social media promotions. Branding is only to be used by Event Partners in accordance with the Partner Benefits. Please review the following information carefully and contact the team if you have any questions. Alternate designs and/or formats may be provided upon request, subject to available resources. All events posted are requested to display the DIF logo on marketing material as acknowledgement. Electronic versions should also include a link to the main Festival webage www.dif.vic.gov.au.

The Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions provides limited funding for DIF2019 events subject to submission of an application, assessment against DIF2019 funding criteria and availability of funds. Please contact the DIF Team to determine if your event may be eligible for funding support. Only events that have received funding are eligible to use the Victoria Government logo stand alone. At all other times it must be displayed in tandem with the DIF logo. This logo will be provided once a sponsorship agreement has been signed.

DIF Online Events Hub www.dif.vic.gov.au The DIFVic Online Events Hub is the central location for all information relating to DIF2019. Once posted, DIF2019 events will be advertised on DIFVic and discoverable with assistance from the DIFVic search tools. The DIFVic Online Events Hub Guide outlines the process to register as an event host and submit your event to be included in the Festival calendar.
