The Growing Indian Tourism Industry Tourism and travel industry in India is growing with a rapid pace. Of course there are obvious reasons behind this rapid growth. Apart from the rich cultural and geographical diversity that attracts tourist from all over the world, the new tourist friendly policies adapted by the government are aiding the growth as well. Constant efforts by government and private agencies to improve the condition of India as a tourist destination are paying off well. The developing scenario also generates employments and ensures an economic growth of the country.

India, one of the largest democracies in the world is a country of vividness and diversity. The northern Himalayas provide a cooler climate and different lifestyle for its people. The western part on the other hand is an arid region consisting of deserts and sand. The southern India has altogether a totally different climatic condition with lots vegetation and greenery. The vastness of its land and richness of its culture adds to the beauty of the land. This is the main cause of growing tourism. The growth is well supported by other terms as well.

Government Policies: Various Government policies are being adapted that is aiding the promotion of Indian Tourism. The government has adopted various campaigns for such promotions. “Campaign Clean India� is one such step taken by Indian Government. It aims at improving the hygiene quotient of various tourist spots all over India. Under this campaign, ONGC has taken


the responsibility of keeping the magnificent Taj Mahal clean. Tourism Minister also plans to launch e campaign named “777 days of Indian Himalayas” to promote Indian tourism. This campaign aims at attracting foreign tourists in India. The tourism in India is also supported by many foreign agencies. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has extended its hand to support tourism and small industries in Rajasthan. The agency has also signed an agreement with the government of India to promote the Buddhist circuit of tourism in India. The Growing Nation: The

Competitiveness Report, 2011, stated that the country’s air transportation services are very good and reliable, given the development of the nation. It also stated the ground transportation service as reasonably good and ranked at number 43 out of 139 countries. The Falling Rupee: With the falling value of Indian currency, the tourism in India is gaining even more popularity. The travelers are finding the place more affordable to take a trip. The industries which are related to the tourism are also gaining a lot of profit. The hotel, and aviation industries for an instant seems to be booming. The diverse nature of the country is truly astonishing and it does a complete justice to the name “Incredible India” given by Amitabh Kant to promote tourism in India.
