July 16, 2014 - The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has selected Norwalk’s City-School Collaborative Partnership as a recipient of the 2014 ICMA Community Partnership Program Excellence Award. ICMA’s Community Partnership Program Excellence Award recognizes programs or processes that demonstrate innovation, excellence, and success in multi-participant involvement between or among a local government and other governmental entities, private sector businesses, individuals, or nonprofit agencies to improve the quality of life for residents or provide more efficient and effective services. “The City has been working with the School District on a variety of projects for a number of years. The ability to lay a foundationof collaboration and continue to build on it benefits all of the residents of the community. We recognize that the taxpayer for city services is the same person paying taxes for school services and the more efficient we can become by working together, the more we can do for the community,� said Tom Phillips, Mayor. “I am thrilled to have Norwalk recognized for these efforts.� The City of Norwalk and the Norwalk Community School District collaborate on a number of items, including building a joint maintenance facility and partnering on technology, HVAC, and support services. ICMA will recognize the City’s program through several activities that will take place in conjunction with the 100th Annual Conference in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, NC, Sept. 14-17. Founded in 1914, ICMA advances professional local government worldwide. Its mission and vision is to create excellence in local governance by developing and fostering professional management to build sustainable communities that improve people’s lives worldwide.

Jim Sr.’s 64 Years in Trucking
James A. DeMatteis, now known as Jim Sr., started hauling produce in 1950. In 1962, he started Vitalis Truck Brokerage for exempt commodities. In 1969, he partnered with Joseph T. Comito and his son, Joseph M. of Capital City Fruit, Inc., to start Des Moines Truck Brokers, Inc.
