Containers “dernier voyage” Mon installation et transformation de Containers “dernier voyage” en sculpture a démarré en 2004. Il me fallait réfléchir à une structure totalement autonome apte à la tactique de la disparition chère à Hakim Bey. Et là, j’ai eu la révélation avec le container, véritable symbole de la mondialisation qui permet avec 500 dollars tous frais payés, de bahuter 40 tonnes de came entre Le Havre et Shanghaï, une véritable arme de destruction massive de l’économie mondialisée. La norme iso~668 permet pratiquement tous les délires les plus graves. Je décidai donc de me mettre à fond dans l’histoire du container avec son fondateur Malcolm Mac Lean en 1956 qui péta les plombs devant la disparité des normes de transport. Il créa donc le Container en 9, 20, 30 et 40 pieds. Et là, j’ai eu l’illumination ! L’objet magique était là, une transmutation du Bunker universel en objet du désir prêt à se reproduire à chaque coin du monde. J’ai donc “dealé” avec les Chinois, l’achat d’une armée de containers 9, 20 et 40 pieds. Chacun passe à la Demeure du Chaos avec une transformation radicale par mes visions du moment.
Le “Abode of Chaos container” est né ! Chaque container devient une œuvre d’art unique. La dernière en date va être un container de 40 pieds transformé en hôpital de campagne où à côté, une installation de Paul Mc Carthy serait destinée à un enfant de moins de 12 ans. Sur ces containers, j’ai créé une nouvelle firme “Vanitas Company Ltd.”, car la première fonction des containers est le transport d’armes et de munitions. Ma démarche artistique sera donc de produire 36 containers dantesques dont 18 vont infecter les différents continents. À la Demeure du Chaos, vous allez voir dans les TAZ/ ~Containers, la Chaîne universelle du Chaos. Côté village de Saint-Romainau-Mont-d’Or rebaptisé : “Rotterdam au Mont d’Or”, la Mairie voit chaque semaine des containers arriver et repartir, principe de l’économie d’échelle pour se disséminer dans la Terra Incognita. J’ai avec les containers, une présence évanescente et subtile, je crée une esthétique du territoire-limes entre le chaos et l’ordre, la zone de catastrophe où la panne du système équivaut à une soudaine illumination.

And when I saw the container, I knew that was it; a symbol of globalization that al lows you - for the modest sum of $500 (covering all expenses) - to ship 40 tons of dope from Shanghai to Le Havre… a veritable weapon of mass destruction of the global economy. The ISO~668 standard somehow al lows the craziest ideas. So I decided to totally immerse myself in the his tory of the container with its found er Malcolm MacLean who in 1956 went berserk and decided to correct the disparity in transport standards by creating 9, 20, 30 and 40-foot con tainers. And I had an epiphany! The magical object was there, a transmu tation of the universal bunker into an object of desire, ready to breed in every corner of the world. So I nego tiated with the Chinese to buy var ious 9, 20 and 40 foot containers. Each of these containers goes to the Abode of Chaos and gets a radical transformation depending on what ever idea I have at the time.
This process gave birth to the "Abode of Chaos container"! Each container becoming a unique work of art. The most recent will be a 40-footer transformed into a field hospital next to which an installa tion of Paul Mc Carthy would ap pear to be fitted for a child under 12 years old. Out of these contain ers I created a new business entity called Vanitas Company Ltd., since the primary use of containers is for the transport of weapons and ammunition. My artistic project will therefore be to produce 36 appalling con tainers, 18 of which will invade different continents. At the Abode of Chaos, you'll see in the TAZ / ~Containers, the universal Chain of Chaos. In the sleepy village of Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or - re named "Rotterdam au Mont d'Or", the Town Hall sees a weekly flow of containers arriving and depart ing, in accordance with the princi ple of economies of scale, to spread out to Terra Incognita. With the containers I have a subtle and ev anescent presence, I create an aesthetic of frontier territories be tween chaos and order, the disas ter zone where system failure is equivalent to a sudden enlighten ment.
