SEPTEMBER WINE CLUB GRAPE STOMP! Grape Stomp Saturday, September 13th 11AM to 5PM

A NOTE FROM THE WINERY

Join Del Rio for one of our best parties of the year. Grape stomping helps us roll into harvest. The grape stomping will run at 12:30, 2:30 & 4:30 PM. Bring your partner and compete for the title of stomping champion. The winners will receive a 2014 Harvest T-Shirt.

With the end of August approaching, we are working on having the cellar ready for harvest. Our first mission was to free up as many barrels as possible, and we did. We just finished putting the 2013 Pinot Noir in bottle, leaving the barrels ready to receive the 2014 Crush.

This year we have invited the AVO Shack Food Cart for you to purchase a meal. The AVO Shack specializes in all things Avocado. Check our their website for their menu at www.avoshack.com

It is that time of year when we begin to contemplate how our weather pattern impacts the grapes. I am already wondering how this warm summer and recent rain will influence the flavor profile of our 2014 grapes.

Come enjoy the vineyard, wine tasting, grape stomping, great food and wonderful live music all day long. Guests are welcome!

Dear wine club members,

August has also brought our vineyard expansion into full swing. We are underway in preparing the ground for another 100+ acres of vines. The new plantings will also increase the range of flavor profiles as they are going in at an elevation of 1600 feet. Thanks to the diversity of soil type, slopes and varied exposition found at Del Rio, more complex wine is going to be made. Planting will begin in April 2015 with the first very light harvest in 2016 and full production in 2018. A votre SantĂŠ! Jean-Michel Jussiaume

2013 VIOGNIER |||||||||||||||||||||||||||| TASTING NOTES: The 2013 Viognier is showing an intense and refreshing nose with notes of melon, peach and anise. In addition, hints of Acacia flowers and menthol add an intriguing complexity to the nose. The mouth is opening with a round and creamy sensation with a touch of pastries. The fresh and yet round mouthfeel is prolonged with remarkable, tasty, and supple tannins. The flavors are comprised of thyme, rosemary, cassis, ripe plums and oak notes. A2014 wine Winter club Wine Eventgift for the Chef . . . Blue Heaven HONEY GLAZED CHICKEN WINGS INGREDIANTS

1/2 cup local honey 1/4 cup hoisin sauce 3 tbsp Garlic Lover's Vinegar or fresh lemon juice 2 tbsp Garlic Ginger Salt 1 tsp sesame oil 2 tsp Vindaloo (a curry pepper seasoning) 3 lbs boneless skinless chicken wings

DIRECTIONS Whisk together all marinade ingredients in a medium bowl. Set aside. Cut each chicken thigh in half. Place chicken pieces in a large, heavy-duty, resealable plastic bag. Add 1/2 the marinade to bag. Turn bag several times to coat chicken with marinade. Marinate in refrigerator for at least 2 hours, overnight is even better. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and fold or roll the chicken pieces into uniform oblong “wings.” Place wings on baking sheet so that they are touching, this will help hold the shape. Bake for 10min, chicken should be partially cooked and still pink in the middle. Preheat gas grill to medium-high heat. Coat grill rack lightly with oil or cooking spray. Transfer wings to grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Baste often with reserved marinade to ensure fantastic flavor. The finished wings will have grill marks and a char grilled flavor. Serve wings hot or cold with radishes, celery, carrot sticks and cold blue cheese dip.

BLUE HEAVEN DIPPING SAUCE INGREDIANTS

1/3 c. mayonnaise 1/3 c. crème fraiche or sour cream 1 large garlic clove, finely minced 2 tsp. white or champagne vinegar 2 – 3 Tbsp. Blue Heaven (more to taste) salt and fresh ground black pepper dash of Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce (optional)

DIRECTIONS In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise and crème fraiche. Add minced garlic, vinegar and Blue Heaven powder. Whisk until completely smooth. Add salt, pepper, and Worcestershire or a few drops of hot sauce to taste. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours to allow flavors to meld. Store in an airtight container and use within three days.
