About Escambia County Schools Escambia County Schools (ECS) offers a comprehensive instructional program that provides students with rigorous academic and extra-curricular opportunities. Faculty and staff are committed to developing career and college ready graduates with the knowledge and skills to be successful in the 21st Century. As evidenced by the system's "B' grade on the State Accountability Report Card, ECS is proud of its diverse academic offerings designed to meet students' unique learning needs and interests. Dual enrollment agreements with higher-ed institutions such as Coastal Alabama Community College and Reid State Technical College allow students an opportunity to earn college credit with no tuition due from their families. The University of Alabama and Troy University also work with ECS students to provide an opportunity to earn college credit while attending high school. ECS is home to five pre-K programs and offers gifted programs at all schools. A curriculum specialist works closely with the system's teachers to deliver quality education to all students and raise student achievement. Through its 1:1 Technology Initiative and with the support of the system's technology coach, ECS equips

students with the vital skills required to succeed in today's technology-driven society. The system also offers an extensive career tech program featuring more than a dozen concentration areas, from TV production to fire-fighting to culinary arts. Starting with the 2021-2022 school year, the system will add information technology/computer science and EMR & EMT certification to its career tech offerings. Students also are challenged to fulfill their potential outside the classroom. ECS strives to help develop and provide opportunities for students to showcase and build their talents in the arts, athletics, band, and a variety of other interests. Student safety and well-being is a top priority for ECS, which provides school resource officers in all feeder patterns and school nurses in all schools. The system also has cultivated partnerships with local and county law enforcement agencies as well as strong relationships with city and county officials and state lawmakers. ECS prides itself on maintaining a physical environment conducive to learning. In addition to excellent facilities, the system offers full-time maintenance staff, continuous improvements and renovations and new construction projects.

Our Community Escambia County is located in southwest Alabama on the Florida border, just a short drive from the beautiful beaches along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast. The county encompasses 951 square miles with a population of roughly 38,000. Named after the Creek word "Shambia", meaning clear water, the Conecuh River flows through the eastern portion of the county. There is an abundance of beautiful scenery and outdoor spaces available, providing residents and visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the many adventures of nature. In addition to local parks and a splash pad area for children and families to enjoy, Little River State Forest offers canoeing, birdwatching, swimming and fishing. The Poarch Creek Indian Reservation, the only recognized Native American group in the state of Alabama, hosts the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Pow Wow annually.

The city of Brewton is the seat of Escambia County government and the location of the Escambia County Board of Education. Brewton is home to two of the largest mills in the county -- T.R. Miller Mill Company and Georgia Pacific. Escambia County's largest city, Atmore, was ranked one of the Top 50 Safest Cities in Alabama. Atmore is home to the Wind Creek Hotel & Casino, which draws visitors from across the state and the region. Both Atmore and Brewton have Coastal Alabama Community College campuses, with the main campus located in Brewton.

Search for a Visionary Leader The Escambia County Board of Education is seeking an experienced leader with strong leadership and administrative skills. Other desired traits include: Commitment to professional development for the staff Ability to think innovatively Ability to initiate and adapt to change Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to listen to the ideas of others before making decisions Demonstrated ability to improve student achievement Strong people skills Able to delegate A strong team player

QUALIFICATIONS Alabama law requires the superintendent be chosen for general fitness and character and that he or she be knowledgeable in school administration. The successful applicant should have or be eligible for the appropriate certification to serve as a superintendent in Alabama and must hold at least a master's degree. He or she must have experience as a classroom teacher and at least five years’ experience in public school work. In addition, he or she must have worked for at least the last five years as a principal, administrator, assistant superintendent or superintendent. The successful candidate also must be qualified to be bonded by the school system’s insurance carrier.

SALARY Base salary is $135,000 and will be negotiated based on experience and a proven track record.
