Join OCCC’s Jody Becker as she leads classroom instruction, counseling and discussion to polish your list of appropriate experiences into an attractive one-page resumé that best represents you and your skill set. Cover letters will also be discussed.

Using Social Media in Your Search April 25, 4 to 6 pm • Room 70

Understand how social media exposure can both hurt you and help you as you seek employment. Every participant will leave with their own YouTube channel and/or LinkedIn account, thanks to this session, to be led by Misty Lambrecht.

Dress for Success

April 29, 4 to 6 pm • Room 244

Learn appropriate dress codes for the work environment, with wardrobe analysis and a shopping excursion with the experts. Led by volunteer mentors who are business professionals and members of the Rotary Club of Newport.

Interview Coaching

Hone your interview skills with actual practice interviews with a team of professionals who use these skills in their positions every day. Are you preparing to apply for work locally or in other areas? Are you ready to do the research needed to apply? Do you feel prepared to interview and present yourself in the best possible light? Here is an opportunity to learn the skills that will make you more competitive in the job market. This series of four workshops was created for those looking forward to applying for employment. The class will meet from 4 pm to 6 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, April 22 through May 2. The workshops are presented by the Small Business Development Center at Oregon Coast Community College and the Rotary Club of Newport. Each of the 12 participants will be mentored and supported as they gain a better understanding of completing a job application, writing a winning resumé and cover letter (saved to disc or flash drive), and more. Topics will also include dressing for the interview, presentation skills, and practice interviews.

This series is available to OCCC students, referrals from prospective employers, and the community at large. You need not be an OCCC student to apply. This series will include a contest for the best three resumés and best three interviews. Winners will receive gift certificates for business clothes, office supplies, business cards, or to fill other appropriate needs for the participant’s job search. Best of all, this program is provided absolutely free. However, program size is limited to twelve participants. To apply for one of the 12 spaces, simply submit a short essay (200-500 words) explaining: How will this series of workshops benefit me?
