Sculpture from the mind to speak to the soul Through an abstract and geometric approach the Romanian sculptor Ciprian Hopirtean gropes the world of symbols and underlines the potential of art to mean more than it actually shows. His works sport a rhythmic management of volumes ...in his works is reserved the special and shapes, lines and forms, function of transcendence in to as well as a harmonious juxtathe dreamworld of the one that is position in often binary fornot yet finished, the human touch, mats and structures reveal the love of their creator for symthe possible continuation of the metry, revoking symbolisms to plasticity not given, as to be ful- pinpoint the very creation of filled inside the mind.... the universe and infinity. Though Ciprian Hopirtean is a gifted non figurative sculptor, in the recent symposiums he participated, he seems eager to explore the figurative form and the outcome is astonishing; however, even these depictions transcend a universal energy apparent all-over his work. His

smaller works become a receptor of this notion and an elaborator. In this sense, his work shows the unique virture to drag us into the world of dreams. The non abraded or polished parts of the stone utilized in his works is reserved the special function of transcendence in to the dreamworld of the one that is not yet finished, the human touch, the possible continuation of the plasticity not given, as to be fulfilled inside the mind of the viewer. TAMING

huge marbles with a smile Ciprian Hopirtean came to us early, and started working by the middle of June. He was one of the longest remaining sculptors who extended their stay even after the end of the Symposium. Always smiling and a very enthousiastic person with everyone, the most common of the phrases you’ll hear from him is “No problem”. He uses this common phrase in such an extent, that it is said among the sculptors that when Ciprian recognises a problem in a situation the world will end! Handling volumes of marble extremely hard to work, and delivering excellent pieces out of them can be

mentioned as one of his talents. As most of the sculptors we worked with, so is Ciprian is also good in a variety of arts apart from sculpture; he produces very interesting expressionistic sketches, miniature terracotta statues, and he is particularly keen on canvas restoration. THE GREEK MARBLE INITIATIVE

The Greek Marble Initiative project is a vision given form. Stavros Muronidis with the support of his associates and the contribution of collectors and benefactors, set forth in the Spring of 2013 to materialize the most ambitious plan of reviving international interest on the Greek marble and the marble sculpture. This book attempts to document the actions, to depict the participants in action, to present the works produced and to salvage in a holistic approach the outcome that was put together during the Greek Marble Initiative’s Symposium of Summer 2013 that has took place in the premises of Myrό Antiques House in Souroti, Thessaloniki in Greece. Two symposiums were arganized till now, one in 2013 and another in 2014. Each lasting more than 6 months. In addition to marble pieces some of the finest bronze sculptors found their way to the project. By the official date that the Symposium ended, 36 sculptors had joined the Initiative and its symposium, producing a total of more than 160 monumental and more than 300 smaller pieces, which constitute a record output. Most of the artworks are marble, while some of them are bronze, till the day these lines are written (May 3, 2015).
