It is not that difficult to understand. Pay per call ads encourage a customer to give you a jingle instead of clicking or even making a purchase. (at least not immediately) It potentially can generate a lot more targeted traffic for you because the customer is more targeted and interested than just a link clicker. The true potential is that it cuts down on the customer steps to get you into directly contact with them. It benefits the customer also, they can reach you immediately if they need information.  There are pros and cons to the system, both for merchants and publisher who promote them, lets look at both sides. You, the publisher have a great new website concept. Searches are high. competition is low and you have found 2-3 awesome keyword rich domain names available. You are ready to jump into action but you need to confirm one last thing. How will I make money with my new site if I spend the next 2 hours building it and the next 2 days promoting it? Lets go find that affiliate program that will make us some cash. As you search through Google, you find a number of sites selling your product. Sites look professional, they even have an affiliate link at the bottom, so you are good to go. But wait, what is that, top right corner. It is bold, 8 digits, it is blinking. It is an order phone number. Forget this program you think to yourself, too much leakage. They won't pay me for phone calls. Well lets not dump this merchant just yet, they may just have a pay per call program. Pay per call is one more way for you as a publisher or affiliate to get paid. If you do not see mention of the pay per call program on the merchant site, they probably do not have one, but a quick email, asking how they compensate for phone calls will give you the answer. If the reply is" oh, hardly any calls come in, or nobody really uses the phone these days" then move on, do not work with them. If they reply and say "all leads are tracked, including phone ins", then you may have a winner. Pay per call bounties are usually unique to the action. for instance, the advertiser may pay $0.50 per click to their site, $6.00 per call to their site that lasts 1 minute or more, and $25 bounty for a sale. You as the publisher get to decide which program will work the best for you and then how to market it. I will tell you that advertising on mobile networks is the best place to run pay per call campaigns. They work so well, because you can set them up so a user from their iPhone can simply click a button on their phone and be connected to the advertiser. Now lets look at the advertisers benefits and disadvantages. The disadvantage is simply that they need to pay more, allot more for their pay per call program. Where as they can pay $0.50 for a click to their site, they must pay $6 or better for a call. Because of this, they need a new division

within their company to handle incoming calls, and monitize them effectively. The advertiser must always be testing to find what works best. The advantage is direct contact. No need to send a visitor to your site, invite them to an opt-in list, wait for 5-6 communications before they trust you to make a purchase, all the while the customer is distracted by thousands of additional marketing messages daily. When they call you, they are 100% interested in your product or service. This is a very live customer, ready to purchase. Build some rapport, make sure your product solves their need, and you have a sale. Every industry and service will have different success or closing rates, but 50% of callers converted to buyers is a good goal. Getting paid for generating phone calls to merchants sites is here to stay. It is one more way for you the publisher to monitize your traffic. It is one more way for the merchant to get closer to their customer quickly. And a final bonus is that pay per call is both an online and offline advertising opportunity. To your marketing success.
