A Message From Dr. Rachel Harper Chair of the Board of Directors

IN THIS ISSUE EAGLE GALA: 3 EAGLE DADS: 4-5

Dear LCA Families and Friends, December is a special time around our school. Don’t you agree? I am not sure what I enjoy the most – the Christmas chapels, service projects or Christmas concerts. They are all wonderful! Each one serves as a reminder of the Christmas message and the wonder it conveys. Let us give praise to our Heavenly Father for the precious gift He gave. Isaiah 9:5 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Operation Christmas Child LCA's junior high students were thrilled to participate in Operation Christmas Child (OCC) again this year. OCC is a project of Samaritan's Purse and collects shoebox gifts - filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items - and delivers them to children in need around the word to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way. Junior high students donated supplies for the boxes and raised $500 for the cause. Members of the LCA Junior High Beta Club assembled and filled 50 shoe boxes one day after school and prepared them for shipment. OCC hoped to collect enough enough shoebox gifts to reach nearly 11 million children this Christmas in countries like Peru, the Philippines, Rwanda and Ukraine.

Making Cards Our 6th - 8th graders created 220 cards for the Lexington Rescue Mission's Annual Christmas Dinner.

Good Samaritan Christmas Again this year, our preschool and elementary students were challenged to raise money for Good Samaritan Christmas. The money raised was used to support two missions - the Good Samaritan School in India and Wellington Elementary here in Lexington. This is LCA's third year supporting the students in India. This year they are supporting 12 students in India (one boy and one girl per grade level K-5th grade).

Mrs. Calhoun's 5th grade class gathered to pray over the gifts they'd purchased.

"We have been doing a form of Angel Tree for more than 15 years, either through Prison Ministries, Salvation Army, and now currently with Wellington Elementary," said Jennifer Hurt, LCA Elementary Assistant Principal. "We have 64 angels at Wellington that our PS-5th grade classes are covering."

LCA students had a great time picking out just the right gifts and filling their shopping cart.

Students helped pack and load gifts for delivery to Wellington Elementary.

Lexington Help-Portrait The ninth annual Help-Portrait Lexington was held on Saturday, December 7 at the Richmond Rd. campus of Southland Christian Church. Local photographer, The event, led by local photographer, Andrew Fore, allows families and individuals from all over central and eastern Kentucky to have a professional portrait taken, who may not otherwise be able to afford it. Along with nearly 300 community volunteers, LCA students and staff served as hosts to more than 500 guests. Volunteers stayed with the guests through the entire process from the hair and make-up stations to selecting a frame for their finished photo. “Help-Portrait is such a blessing to our guests, volunteers, and community,” said Fore. “This effort allows us to serve as the hands and feet of Christ, love on our fellow man, and bring light into the hearts and lives of those most in need during this season of thanksgiving.”

Ringing the Bells For the sixth year in a row, LCA preschool and elementary families have served as Salvation Army bell ringers. From November 16 - December 21, they have been ringing the bells each Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., at Lexington Green and the Hobby Lobby locations at Hamburg and Brannon Crossing. LCA preschool and elementary students were recognized with the Bell Ringer of the Year Award for raising the most funds (more than $8,500) during the 2018 holiday season.
