2023 Fall Chorus Concert Program

Page 1

For centuries, the book of Psalms has helped us express ourselves to a Holy God. The book is filled with words to pray, poems on which to meditate, and songs to sing. It reminds us that we can lament and express our grief to God, while still praising Him for His provision and salvation. The Psalms call us to remember the God who is the beginning and end of all things, to rest in His sovereignty, and to express joy in all circumstances. Tonight’s concert features several modern musical settings of the Psalms. We pray that this time of worship is a blessing to you as we ponder together the greatness of our God!

Psalm 23

My Shepherd Will Supply My Need Isaac Watts (1674-1748) CHORALE

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name ' s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever

Selah. 5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises

WOMEN’S CHAMBER CHORUS

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

Psalm 91

Psalm 91

Nan Allen (1961- )

CHORALE

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.

Psalm 133

How Good Michael Engelhardt (1978- )

CHORALE

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

Doxology

Thomas Ken (1637-1711)

Louis Bourgeois (c. 1510-1559)

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands

2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations

Thank you for worshipping with us tonight!
