What is important to me…
My family: Isla and Bella, my daughters, who remind me to reflect on what’s important but often don’t actually give me the time to do so! My wife, Katie, whose patience I push to the limit and who tolerates more than she should. Not letting others down – especially my work and research colleagues. Constantly remind others my outputs only really reflect their support and encouragement. Feeling part of a team Finding a balance between competing pressures, something I know I struggle with. My patients feeling I have delivered excellent care and my colleagues believing I am delivering it. Running – and finding the time to re-start running – failing miserably at this currently.
How best to support me…
If I look distracted its not that I don’t want to talk to you it’s that I’ve let things get out of control. I sometimes look more stressed than I feel however and need a gentle reminder to come back into the ‘real’ world. I’ll always try to deliver what I say I will sometimes eating into work-life balance to do so. Try not to let me set myself silly deadlines! Passion and emotion may be evoked in discussion, negativity and exasperation will instantly dis-engage me. If I don’t phone for a while doesn’t mean I don’t care as I trust in the knowledge you always will – (one for my parents)
