ecessity is the mother of invention,” laughs Vishal Methi. Moving house a couple of years ago, he found that he had to step out and drive around for all the family’s little needs. Be it fresh vegetables or a plumber to fix a broken faucet, he had to run from pillar to post to get it all. “Vegetables were very expensive, not necessarily fresh; one had to run to a store for everything from nails to a strip of painkillers,” he says. An IT professional by training, Vishal took matters in his own hands and provided a solution in a manner he knew best— online. He set up ‘Just4us.in’, a

site where you can ask for just about anything online and it will be delivered to you right at your doorstep! From vegetables to cooks, from medicines to doctors it is literally an answer to your prayers.

A ‘virtual’ change “Pune has grown and even the Punekar gets confused about the availability of things at different places. A while ago we had to shop for ourselves and we got caught between MG Road and Laxmi Road. It helps to have a portal that has shops on it that you can tour virtually before you even step out into the chaotic traffic,” says Arshad Shaikh, the creator of ‘kharidari.in’. A shopaholic’s delight, it has everything from watches to electronics to

“We do anything you need us to” “Online shopping is also the answer to someone who is not so mobile, who is constrained to move. We even arrange to pick up any package from anywhere in Pune and deliver it. So if you want to send some documents that must reach the same day, you just have to let us know. It saves you a trip in the maddening Pune traffic. We pay bills for you as well,” says Methi, who has quit his job to take care of just4us.in. The most unusual request he has received was from a person looking for a business loan. “We could even do that!” he smiles.

clothing, furniture and even vegetables and a store with just chocolate. All you need to do is sit back and relax and type in what you need. Chandrasekhar Pawar whose ‘Freshmandi’ on Kharidari is a hot favourite with customers says business is booming. “We have packages on offer and

even the discounts are clearly mentioned. There are special packages for varied people. If you are diabetic or pregnant, we can tailor the package for you accordingly. You can choose to have whatever vegetable or fruit you want, at your doorstep. This means you are eating fresh vegetables

straight from the farmer every day. You can just give us a schedule and we will follow it till you tell us otherwise. If you run out of something and need it urgently, we try and reach it to you,” he says.

A convenient option Ravi Kumar Gupta of ‘www. Kiranaathome.com’ realised that most of the customers of his store have computers and would prefer to order their groceries online. “A couple of items over the phone are fine, but an entire list is sometimes hard to take down. So you can make your list by just clicking on the item that you want. If there is anything that you do not see, you just have to let us know and we procure that as well. People have got

used to online shopping, so we just took our shop there. ” he clarifies. Operating from Hadapsar for now, he has tied up with shops in other areas for efficiency and speedy delivery. So next time you crave something local, be it a Puneri sari or a box of mangoes, mybe you could give your car a break. Just whip out your laptop and key in your wish-list. Say the magic words, which could be ‘Cash-on-delivery’, and wait for it to happen. The answer to your prayers is now online!

o encourage tree plantation among Puneites, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off their ‘Plant-a-Sapling’ drive. It is an annual one-month programme, organised every year by the civic body at the onset of rains, in which saplings are sold at half the market rate at the PMC nursery. With temperatures in summer going up to 41.5 degree Celsius, citizens are facing a tough time battling out these extreme conditions. To keep the city’s temperature at a balance, more trees need to be planted and grown in open and reserved areas contributing to the green cover of Pune which currently stands at 34 per cent.

Life 365 is more than just a daily that packages `life’ in its 16 pages. It is a platform to understand your city better in terms of the good work silently being done by hundreds of good samaritans. Their stories of

how they lend an extending hand could propel you to contribute your bit to the society. In this progressive city of Pune, the desire to the serve the society is very strong, as we learnt from interaction with citizens.

The first day saw many colleges and organisations from the city purchasing saplings from the nursery. A staff member from a local college, who had come to pick up some saplings says, “It is important to plant trees in our surroundings and make today’s generation aware about its importance. We too are planning to organise a drive for tree plantation in our college soon.” Another citizen Jagadish Shetty, who purchased more than 100 saplings says, “We are going to plant these saplings in our residential society. I feel that, contributing towards nature is more important than just debating on trivial issues.” The civic body has appealed to government, semi-government and registered co-operative
