Letter From our

President Dear Parents, Alumnae and Friends,

As we look to the next 125 years for D.A., the future is brighter than ever... Without a doubt, the community of Dominican Academy is thriving.

It is a pleasure to present you with this Annual Report from Dominican Academy. As we look to the next 125 years for D.A., the future is brighter than ever. Applications continue to grow year after year, our credentialed and sought-after faculty are flourishing, and the renovations completed in 2018 have improved mobility, maximized space usage, and modernized instruction spaces where needed. Without a doubt, the community of Dominican Academy is thriving. Since D.A.’s founding in 1897, students have been well rounded in pursuing the Dominican Pillars of Study, Building Community, Prayer and Service. Although many things have changed in D.A. history, a commitment to these four Pillars has remained a constant.

As we soon enter our 125th Anniversary Year, I pray that our students, faculty/ staff, alumnae and friends will continue to show tremendous fortitude and perseverance to face the future with purpose and confidence. We look forward to celebrating the Anniversary with a variety of events and hope to see many of you in person. With Gratitude Galore,

Sr. Margaret Ormond, O.P., ‘60 President

be and to offer a strong all-honors curriculum to every D.A. girl. I am grateful for this hearty support to our Annual Fund and Endowment that keep Dominican Academy going strong!

Letter From Brother James Simon D.A.’s 125th

Anniversary Celebrating Our Past—Embracing Our Future

Dear Friends of Dominican Academy, The faculty, students, administration, and I are grateful for your past support to the education here at Dominican Academy. In this momentous anniversary year, we are placing special focus on the Dominican Academy endowment and its role in safeguarding our future. While we have always maintained a sound financial position, our current endowment of $15 million is a fraction of what peer schools have. Unlike many private schools, we cannot rely upon an annual stream of revenue from the endowment in our operational budget.

This anniversary milestone calls upon each of us to re-dedicate ourselves to the Dominican Pillars of Study, Prayer, Community, and Service and to reflect upon how we will each uphold the traditions and exceptionalism of Dominican Academy for the future. Thank you for your generosity to Dominican Academy. With Deep Gratitude,

Brother James P. Simon, C.O. Director of Advancement

A growing D.A. endowment could provide our school and students security and longevity. Our endowment fund is a combination of restricted and unrestricted gifts that are invested to steadily grow over time. When we draw a small percentage of the invested endowment, we are withdrawing from the accrued interest, leaving the principal (original gifts) intact so it can continue to generate more interest each year.

In our anniversary year, we are seeking to grow our endowment to specifically benefit our students, our faculty, our programs, and to safeguard our comparatively low tuition that is more affordable than most schools’ on the Upper East Side.
