THE PHOENIX PRESS Key Club International | CNH District | Region 5 | Division 28 North Newsletter 2011-2012 | Issue 1 | June 2011

LTG Introduction Greetings, Phoenixes!

So for those who don't know me just yet, I am Jarren L. Santos, your D28N Lt. Governor for the 2011-2012 year (I do want to get to know you all, and I promise that I will attempt to by the end of this year)! Welcome to the first edition of the Divisional Newsletter! I am a man of big dreams and big ideas, so expect A LOT from me this year. As long as we get along together and we put in maximum amounts of efforts, this division will burn with enormous amounts of service and spirit throughout the time of this year! NOW LET'S DO THIS! I want to let you guys know a little information about myself before we start off. I am currently a Sophomore from Advanced Technologies Academy currently enrolled in the Architecture magnet program (Class of 2013!) I enjoy playing music for any type of person, on any day of the week, and at any time and any place. I like long walks on the beach while listening to some Rick Astley (the guy that sings that Rick Roll'd song) and Boys II Men! To top it all off, I have this total OCD about having things symmetrically in place so it looks even and organized! I plan to give you guys a random fact about me each month, so look forward to that, too! If I let myself out to you guys, I hope that I can achieve a personal relationship with you all and in return become a great friend to you all! I hope you guys had a great time at Officer Training Conference and Key Leader! My goal this year is to really set up some great events for you guys so that we can bond as a division and family as well as to establish a great connection amongst all of the division. So let's have a great year, and this is your LTG signing off for now!

Officer Training Conference

This year’s OTC, along with every other year’s, was an informative training experience. It was nice to see the new faces that represent Key Club. I went into the training workshop for presidents and vice presidents, and I left with a lot more knowledge on what it meant to be one. I learned the responsibilities and duties of being a president and had the chance to talk to others in the same position. From the workshop, I met new people through the fun and funny ice-breakers and I know that people in other workshops did so as well. There was also an interesting presentation on public speaking, where I’m sure everyone improved their skills just by listening to the excellent speaker. This officer training conference’s purpose was to inform and guide new incoming Key Club board members and that’s exactly what it did. From this conference, I feel more involved with service. It was not only an informative experience; it was a motivating one as well. It set a foundation for future Key Club board members and inspired them with service ideas. - Quin Redublado, D28N Divisional Secretary, ECTA Officer Training Conference was held at A-Tech high school on May 7 where officers of the division underwent training. During the secretary workshop, we learned about the criteria and role of the position; we learned how important it was for all of the officers to work together in order to achieve success. It wasn't only that, we started the workshop off with a few ice breakers which really made it more interesting since we were able to learn a few things about one another. The workshop taught us how to be the best officers we can be and helped me truly. Considering this was my first OTC, it was really great to be able to meet the officers of different schools in our division. Each and everyone of them seemed really outgoing and dedicated to making our clubs the best they can be. It was such a great experience and being able to meet new people who all share the same love for key club makes you feel right at home! The feeling of being with fellow key clubbers is just indescribable. - Lalisa Nopkars, Key Club Secretary, Rancho High School

D28S Relay for Life ( May 6th—May 7th ) To start off, HAY THERE KEY CLUBBER~ I’m Esmond C. Fung, your Divisional E.A. from A-Tech. ;D Aight, so D28S’s Relay For Life. INDESCRIBABLE. SUPERIOR. UNCONTAINABLE. This event is one that I am always towards the end of the year. This is also an event to blow off AP/SAT/whatever testing steam. Not only is it an event to raise funds of American Cancer Society, have fun with friends, stay up all night/morning, but also to E-X-P-E-R -I-E-N-C-E the cancer patients’ pain, and to know that cancer never sleeps. Understand what these cancer patients go through and the family, especially, brings tears to my eyes. But it motivates me, is to know that what I contributed towards the society, makes me feel FLY LIKE A PHOENIX~ Alright, so let me tell ya’ll ‘bout this event. Basically, ya’ll get tents/sleeping gear and camp out all night and morn’ on the school track field, walking around the track to keep up to the meaning of “Relay”. Naw, I’m just playin’, there SO MUCH MORE to this wonderful all-nighter and if you haven’t been to a Relay…this article’s just been a first step to your experience. Did I mention? Trolling with the sleepers, if ya’ll that attended, nawmean?! Next stop: RELAY FOR LIFE 2012! - Esmond Fung, D28N Executive Assistant, A-Tech

Legacy April was an exciting month for our club. Our newly elected 2011-2012 officers were able to get involved and learn the ropes of being an officer. We also had our end of the year banquet in which we gave out awards to the members and also bid our goodbyes to outgoing officers and seniors. This month, we have become active in planning the Kiwanis held event, Kite Day. Periodically, we've had meetings discussing plans, and recently we got together to build the kites for the event. We also participated in the Spring Carnival at Dickens Elementary school where we assisted in food and games, in which the staff there were highly thankful for. Another we were able to participate in was the Egg Drop.
