INTRO. NEW EA

IntroducingEXECUTIVE our new ASSISTANT Hello, my name is Gerilyn Arcilla Rufin and I will be taking part of the division leadership team as Division Executive Assistant! I am ecstatic to be apart of the division's team and to be able to work amongst every key clubber in division 28 north. I've proudly served as Las Vegas Academy's Key Club Treasurer and S.A.A in my past two terms. I've always enjoyed being able to help others and make a difference. A little something about me is I live by the quote "Hakuna Matata" and "Live by the sun, love by the moon". I hope one day, we can all strive for a life full of happiness and no worries, mornings that are brighter than ever, and evenings filled with starry nights. As a division, I aim that we can reach above the stars this year and become one big ohana with great aloha spirit! Overall, I can't wait to work with every single one of you! RTC PREVIEW

One of the definite highlights of going back to school is Regional Training Conference. It is a day filled to the brim with anticipation, knowledge, and spirit. Key Clubbers sit through informative presentations on Key Club, leadership, and service. After the training conference, there is the spirit rally where clubs from each division cheer their hearts out and try for their division’s spirit stick. I 100% guarantee RTC to be one of the most intense and fervorous experiences you will ever come across in your whole high school career. RTC is currently planned for October 3, 2015 at Green Valley High School. Keep in mind that the October SAT is also on this date.

GO OUTDOORS! “Park cleanups are important because they create a cleaner environment for kids and the community to be safe in. Perform this service initiative by choosing a local park and bring trash bags and gloves. This is a simple service event that officers can easily plan for their members. Enjoy the sunlight cleaning a park with your fellow members.”

“Go outdoors and beautify your city to make the environment appear brighter. Officers can go to their local city hall and ask about service events that deal with keeping the city beautiful. Create a city mural, re-paint a building, plant a city garden, etc. the list goes on and on. BEE creative! What would you like to see in your city?”

REFLECTIONS

This year in Key Club has been absolutely splendid. All the time and energy spent on working hard throughout the year does not compare to the plethora of knowledge and good experiences it has brought upon my life. The bonds we have established have only strengthened throughout the year and have flourished through community service and although the school year is over the Key Club year has just begun. The board said our goodbyes to the members at our last potluck, where we feasted on snacks and played games. We established some summer socials and community service ideas. We also gave out contact information in case of any questions or details for our summer events. Our service as a club does not stop once the year ends. Ronald McDonald is our first (but not last) summer event!

“Every new beginning comes fro It’s difficult to acknowledge that high school is over. I keep thinking that I’m going to go back this August, but instead, I’m going to go to college. However, although I’m not going to go back to high school, I have all the memories to go back to. I remember all of the classes, the students, and the teachers. I also remember the clubs, all of which I am appreciative for helping me advance as a student and as an individual. Key Club has especially helped me. From my first Key Club meeting to my last Key Club meeting, I have learned so much about myself, and I have been able to express myself to, not only the members of the club, but other students in the school. This expression of myself has allowed me to feel more confident. When the club asks “How do you feel?,” I’m still not confident doing the cheer, but when an individual member or other stu-

REFLECTIONS

May 28th, 2015 marked the last meeting of the 2014-2015 A-TECH Key Club term. To me, this would be the last meeting to enjoy before our seniors leave, the very last meeting of such an amazing year. The meeting meant a lot to me because I really did enjoy this past year. I came out of my comfort zone and became a “somebody.” Key Club is my life and so I wanted to spend my last full Thursday with the club I love. I was happy to see two spirited seniors, Eric Munoz and Gabby de Vera. Excitingly, we also debuted our first Key Club agenda, which was made by yours truly. During this meeting, we also announced our April and May member of the months, who were Christian and Blaise respectively. To be honest, the final meeting was as spirited as the first. Our club did the famous “How Do You Feel?” cheer to celebrate such an amazing year. I can only hope that it’ll continue being that spirited. Let’s go for another spectacular year guys. Let's go for broke.

dent asks “How do you feel?,” I’m confident having a conversation with them. When someone would ask me a question, I used to feel overwhelmed with thoughts of what to say. However, through the meetings, socials, and community service events, I have had to face these questions without even thinking about them. Consequently, Key Club has helped me become more confident in my encounters with people. Overall, Key Club has helped me become a better me as I’ve found much of my fault in my encounters with society. Therefore, I hope to take everything I’ve learned with me into college.

SPRING BANQUET

The purpose of the Spring Banquet was to celebrate the retirement of the old board and installment of the new board. When I arrived at Desert Breeze Park, I was met with our Key Club. There was food, music, and the classic LARP-ers. Shortly after, Melissa and Carmen arrived and brought more food! Our crew then assembled and journeyed through the park in an attempt to find Vincent and Richard. However we came across a ‘cult’ but found out after that they were cosplayers. After our encounter we decided to head back to the banquet. As we settled back down we saw Anderson with Vincent and Richard. We then decided to go and try LARP-ing and sent Noah and James to the LARP-ers to borrow their equipment. They came back successfully and A-TECH Key Club began its own LARP session. We also invited the LARP-ers to 'recharge’ and gave them some of our food and water. They also showed us their sick LARP-ing skills. After the LARP session we began the retirement and installment. Our IP VP of Service, Eric gave us a speech on his experiences with key club. Daniel Lang also gave us his experience with Key Club and how he became the Maverick-Phoenix-Zombie Penguin-Bee he is today. After the speeches and installments of the new board came the end of the banquet.

The end of the year banquet was absolutely amazing. We all brought a wide array of foods such as chips and chicken. I brought purple and blue cupcakes to embody our maverick spirit. In the beginning, there were definitely some of us lost so our fellow officers and members went on rescue parties. Luckily, we found Sophia and Vincent. At the park, there was a group of LARP-ers, live action role players, nearby. A few people from our club got to join them. Later on, we asked to borrow two swords and duel each other. It was unexpectedly very tiring. Together, we ate and bonded over chicken, sandwiches, and more. We also shared some of our food and drinks with the fellow LARP-ers. We played a game of team Rock Paper Scissors. Finally, we had our closing ceremony. The senior leaving officers told their stories about Key Club, such as the introduction by Christopher Bui yelling cheers in the cafeteria. Old officers gave presents to the next generation of officers. Robert gave me a lei that people were selling at relay. I wanted to buy one at relay, but never got around to it, luckily I was able to receive one. It was a great end to our year, being able to spend some time with our

DIVISION UPDATES

Fire Points Update

Last month, I introduced to you the new Fire Point system as a way to further our aspirations in merging the division together as a whole. After nearly two months of implementation, a trend we have noticed is that bigger clubs tended to be ahead by a few hundred points, even if those clubs had much more potential for points. In a sense, they were ahead even though a smaller club worked harder than they did. With that said, I would like to introduce the first change to the point system. As of this month, we will award 300 points for each club that hosts a service project, such as letters to veterans or making PB&J sandwiches. Furthermore, we are awarding 200 points for each club that turns in their Club Update forms, a form that we will give out to clubs soon. We hope that these two additions will be able to close the gap between the bigger and smaller clubs, as to create a balance between the size of the club and the effort put in.
