The 2010-11 school year marks Tosha N. Ansley’s ninth season as the women’s head coach at Charleston Southern University. Since arriving she has changed the CSU & Big South Conference record books. During Ansley’s time at CSU, her athletes have broken every indoor and outdoor sprint, hurdle, jump and throws record with the exception of the weight throw and short hurdles. She has had one NCAA All-East Regional selection, 10 East Regional Qualifiers and 18 East Regional qualifying performances. In 2008, Dionne Gibson earned USTFCCCA All-American honors by finishing 15th at the national meet. Her 4x100m relay team holds the Big South all-time and championship meet record, and earned NCAA All-American accolades in 2009 with an eighth-place finish at the national championships. They became the first relay team in the Big South Conference to reach the national meet. In 2008, Gibson set the Big South all-time and Conference meet record with times of 23.54 and 23.68, respectively. Coach Ansley has had a two-time Big South Female Athlete of the Year in Dionne Gibson, the 2008 Big South Indoor Freshman of the Year in Canchettar Delamar, and the 2008 Outdoor Freshman of the Year, Misha Morris. She’s had 28 Big South Conference Champions and more than 70 All-Conference performances accredited. Her athletes are extremely talented in the classroom as well. Her team has received four CSU Most Improved Academic Awards, along with one Highest Team GPA Award and has had more than 100 scholar-athletes. At the 2008 Big South Outdoor Championships, Ansley coached 21 athletes to all-conference honors and seven individual conference champions, one Big South Conference All time/Championship Meet Record in the 4x100m relay, as well as honors for Dionne Gibson (Most Outstanding Track Performer) & Misha Morris (Freshman of the Year). The second-place finish posted by the Lady Bucs was the best finish since Ansley’s freshman year at CSU & highest point total in CSU history(186 pts) earning her Coach of the Year honors Prior to returning to CSU, Ansley spent two years at Winthrop University as the men’s and women’s assistant cross country and track & field coach. At Winthrop, she coached sprints, hurdles, jumps and relays. During her time there, she coached 24 indoor/outdoor school record-holders, 13 conference champions, 38 all-conference performers, and one Junior National qualifier, two Big South Conference Most Outstanding Track Athletes (men/women), one Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, 16 Big South Presidential Scholars, and four Dean’s List Scholars. Besides coaching at Winthrop, Ansley was a volunteer coach at Summerville High School, where she helped coach the women’s track and field team. As a collegian, Ansley established herself as one of the top hurdlers and jumpers at Charleston Southern. She was an eight-time Big South Conference individual track and field champion, and earned all-conference honors during each of her four seasons. A four-time track and field team MVP and twice-selected Big South MVP in track, Ansley still holds several school records in indoor and outdoor track competition. On Oct. 27, 2006, she was inducted into the CSU Hall of Fame. Ansley received her bachelor’s degree in physical education and psychology from Charleston Southern University in 1999. She is Level II certified in sprints, hurdles & relays and a member of the South Carolina Coaches Association, USA Track and Field Association & US Track Cross Country Coaches Association. She resides in Goose Creek, S.C. Page 2

BUCCANEER CROSS COUNTRY H e a d M e n ’s T ra c k Co a c h T i m La n g f o rd - Eig h t h Se a s o n Tim Langford took the reins as the CSU Head Men’s Track & Field Coach on August 1, 2003. During his tenure he has elevated the men’s program to a top tier program in the Big South Conference. Immediately, Langford went to work, showing his prowess as a recruiter by doubling his team size with his first recruiting class. In addition to the increase in the quantity of performers, the quality of performances has also improved. He was named the 2009-10 Big South Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after taking his team to a runner-up finish. This season, Langford also had two athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor National meet, the first two qualifiers in school history. In his first two years, Langford compiled more than 60 conference-scoring performances. In fact, Langford’s athletes have broken every indoor sprint record from the 55 meters to the mile. Since Langford’s arrival, he has had more than 23 NCAA Regional qualifiers, two NCAA National qualifiers, three USA Junior National qualifiers, an Olympic Trials qualifier and a USATF National Championship qualifier. In addition, he has had four Big South Male Track Athlete of the Year selections, the 2007-08 Big South Indoor Track Freshman of the Year, and has been named the Big South Coach of the Year twice. His team has also won the Big South Sportsmanship Award. Before joining the CSU family, Coach Langford spent two years at fellow Big South Conference member High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. As the assistant cross country and track and field coach at High Point, Coach Langford helped the Panthers attain their first Division I conference championship in cross country. Langford also helped lead the Panthers in attaining numerous individual conference champions & All Conference performances; ranging from the sprints, jumps, and relays. In fact, Langford’s Women’s 4x400 meter relay team never lost a conference championship while under his leadership. Langford’s athletes also set several Big South Conference meet records; the 4x400 meter relay, and women’s long jump to mention a few. Langford went to High Point after spending a year at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. There he coached several state qualifiers in the sprints and jumps. Langford had an easy transition into coaching. This is largely due to being able to coach at his alma mater where he found comfort in the same system, and staff, to which he came from. Coach Langford has also experienced a successful athletic career. As an athlete at Radford University, Coach Langford was the first Big South Conference Champion in Track & Field in school history. The 5’7” Langford set an indoor conference record in the high jump at 6’10.75”. He won all but one Outdoor Conference Championship in the high jump. Coach also set school records in the High Jump, Triple Jump, 4 x 100m, and 4 x 400m. He scored conference points for the Highlanders in the high, long, and triple jumps, both sprint relays, and the 110m hurdles. Langford married the former Lisa Holmes on Oct. 18, 2008, and the couple resides in North Charleston.

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY H e a d C r o s s C o u n t ry Co a c h R y a n T h o m p s o n - T h ird Se a s o n Ryan Thompson joined the Charleston Southern coaching staff for the 2008-09 school year as the men’s and women’s Cross Country and Distance coach. During his time at CSU, Thompson has more than doubled the size of the women’s team, while drastically lowering the average times for both squads. In 2009, the men’s cross country team posted the fourth-highest team GPA among NCAA Division I programs, earning the NCAA All-Academic Team distinction. In his first season with the Bucs he coached Andrew King to a victory at the CCU Invitational Cross Country Meet, as well as a school record in the indoor mile. Thompson’s teams have recorded numerous individual top-5 finishes in cross country and on the track, while setting five school records on the track. The points picked up by the distance crew proved vital in the men’s runner-up team finish at the 2009-10 Big South Indoor Championships. Prior to coming to CSU, Thompson was the Assistant Men’s Cross Country Coach at the College of Charleston during 2007-08. Thompson is a 2004 graduate of Mercer University with a B.A. in sociology. He was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team in 2002 and 2003. Upon graduation, Thompson went on to earn his MPA in urban public affairs from the College of Charleston. The Auburn, Ala., native is married to the former Anna Guerin.

Josh Aydlette joined the CSU coaching staff for the 2004-05 season, joining women’s coach Tosha Ansley as former CSU star athletes now in coaching at the school. Since he came to CSU, Aydlette’s throwers have earned Team MVP and MostImproved awards and have been named All-Big South 25 times. Five different school records have fallen a total of 18 times under his watch. At the 2008 Big South Outdoor Championships, Aydlette’s throwers posted 54 points, including 28 points from Jocelyn Davis, who became the first thrower in CSU history to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. The Lady Bucs posted two all-conference athletes in the shot put to mark the first time CSU has had multiple all-conference throwers. Aydlette is no stranger to success in the sport, having been one of the more dominating throwers in school and Big South Conference history during his career. While at CSU, he went undefeated in the weight throw against Big South opponents, won five Big South Championships and was named Big South All-Conference 13 times. Aydlette holds two Big South records, three CSU school records, and was the CSU men’s track MVP in 2001. After graduating from CSU, Aydlette coached two years at Roanoke College. While there, three athletes won conference titles, broke one conference record, and set five school records. A total of 19 all-conference awards in men’s and women’s were achieved under his tutelage. Aydlette still competes in track during the off-season. Last year he ranked 27th in the world amatuer rankings and placed 7th at the US Invite for National Championships out in San Francisco at the 138th Pleasanton Games. He competes in the Highland Games and was invited to compete in the 2007 Amateur World Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. There, he placed sixth out of eight competitors from the U.S.A., Scotland and Canada. He had a competitive record of 7-3 in the games. When not throwing, Aydlette is an avid surfer, having the chance to surf on Hawaii’s hallowed North Shore during his honeymoon. Recently, Aydlette was featured on America Idol and had his picture published in US Weekly Magazine. He also works with local inner city high schools with at-risk youth as a Student Concerns Specialist. Page 4

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY 2010 Lady Buccaneer Season Outlook The Lady Buccaneer cross country team has improved in a number of areas over the past three years under Coach Ryan Thompson. Not only has the squad improved in sheer numbers, struggling to field a team in his first season to 10 athletes in 2010, but they have drastically dropped the average time. “I think you will see a lot of improvement in our women’s team this year,” said Thompson. “I fully expect to see the kind of strides that the men’s team made last year, and I believe that we will be competitive in every race this season. Our athletes have been working extremely hard over the summer and if they continue to do so, it will be an exciting year.” A lot of the improvement was due to a couple of outstanding freshmen in Adrienne Cuff and Susanna McKee. Both made an immediate impact, leading the team in every race last season. Everyone improved throughout the season, dropping the team average for a 5k from 24:05.80 in the second meet of the season to 22:04.74 just two weeks later. Cuff and McKee, along with Hallie Wright, all return for their sophomore seasons, but look to be challenged by a num- ber of exceptional newcomers that have been added for 2010. Sophomore Heidi Dean will join the team after running last season at fellow Big South member Winthrop. The Lady Bucs also benefit from a trio of freshmen including Hannah Burkholder, Mary Davidson and Morgan Nieto. Burkholder and Davidson both come from the Palmetto State and posted personal bests in high school of 19:48 and 20:06, respectively, in the 5k. Nieto came from Crestwood, Ky., and was utilized in a number of different events in high school, running a personal best in the 5k of 20:56. Lauren Hartness will join the squad from 2010 as a walk on, adding more depth than the women’s team has had in a number of years. Add in a pair of seniors in Tracey Epley and Rachel Moss, who are consistent contributors to the team, and Thompson believes this will be the best season in recent memory. The Lady Bucs were picked to finish ninth in the Big South’s preseason poll, but Thompson is sure that his squad will easily exceed those expectations. “I’m not surprised that we were picked ninth,” said Thompson. “Those rankings are ultimately based off last year’s results and the point of the matter is that we did not perform well enough. We are eager to move up from the bottom of these rankings, and I believe we have the talent to do so.

BUCCANEER CROSS COUNTRY 2010 Buccaner Season Outlook The men’s cross country team made huge strides forward in 2009, finishing seventh at the Big South Championships, despite battling some injuries. The team returns everyone and adds a pair of talented freshmen, making hopes as high as they’ve been since the mid 80’s. Leading the charge is once again redshirt senior Andrew King, who seems to have done everything during his career except earn allconference honors. That is a trend that the team hopes will change this year after King decided to return for his fifth year, despite having already graduated from the school. “Andrew is always putting the team first,” said Coach Ryan Thompson. “He’s a strong Christian man and has really been a leader to this team in practice, on the course and spiritually. I don’t think we have had a distance runner of his caliber since the mid 80’s when Charleston Southern (then Baptist College) was dominant in the distance events.” Fellow seniors Brandon Harris and Chris Seigler also return, with hopes that this season could be something special. Both have seen vast improvement over the summer and will be key contributors in their final year. “It is really encouraging to see where we are now, and be able to compete in the Big South and have a chance to do well in other meets,” said Harris. “There is definitely a different attitude around the program this year. Our team wants to be here and wants to practice. I think that attitude can lead us to the top half of the Big South.” Jesse Huff is the lone junior, joining sophomores Shaun Bisson and Matt Smith, all three of whom return with additional experience in collegiate events. Bisson carded three top-30 finishes last year, including a 15th place finish at The Citadel Invite, while Smith finished in the top-50 in five of the team’s seven events. Huff knocked almost a minute off his time over the course of the season, and looks to be in his best shape coming into 2010. A state champion in Virginia, Michael Bailey will immediately help the 2010 Buccaneers, looking to not only help with the team’s average time and finish, but challenging King for the top spot on the team, pushing him in practice. Scott Morrison, a Pennsylvania native, will also come in and look to make an immediate impact on the team.
