CHUCK VOSS

HEAD COACH | 18TH SEASON

After capturing the program’s fourth Horizon League Tournament title last season - and the second straight league championship - Chuck Voss returns for his 18th season at the helm of the Vikings during the 2017 campaign. Under Voss, who guided the Vikings to back-to-back titles for the first time in program history, Cleveland State has become a perennial powerhouse in the Horizon League, achieving success on and off the court year-after-year. Throughout his tenure at Cleveland State, Voss has guided the Vikings to four Horizon League Regular Season titles and four Horizon League Tournament crowns. Voss has also led Cleveland State to seven 20-win seasons, and enters the 2017 campaign as the program’s all-time winningest coach with 315 career victories with the Vikings. Voss, who is the reigning Horizon League Coach of the Year, picked up his fifth coach of the year honor after guiding the Vikings to a 25-6 record last season. The 2016 campaign was capped off by Cleveland State’s fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament and the honor of reaching the 300-win milestone

for Voss with the Vikings. During his 17-year stint at Cleveland State, Voss has mentored 18 first team allleague selections, 16 all-newcomer team selections, 12 all-region honorees, and seven All-Americans. Among these honorees are returners Gina Kilner (2016 Horizon League Setter of the Year), Sara Skeens (2016 Horizon League Co-Freshman of the Year), and Alexis Middlebrooks (2016 All-Horizon League First Team). This trio will have a large leadership role to fill for Voss during the 2017 season following the graduation of Grace Kauth - one of the most decorated players in program history. Kauth was named the 2016 Horizon League Player and Offensive Player of the Year, becoming just the fourth Viking to earn the accolade during Voss’ 17-year tenure, finishing her illustrious career ranked in the top-10 in seven statistical categories. Voss, who enters the 2017 season with a record of 315-195 at Cleveland State, became the first coach in program history to record 300 career wins and is the only active coach in the Horizon League to achieve the feat at their current school. Voss’ continued dedication to the Cleveland State volleyball program has led the Vikings to become one of the top teams in the state of Ohio, and a Horizon League Championship contender year-in and year-out. Over the last 10 seasons the Vikings have made four NCAA Tournament appearances, and have garnered national recognition to earn neutral site matches during their 2007 and 2016 NCAA Tournament bids. During the 2015 season Voss led the Vikings to a turnaround season, finishing the campaign with a 26-7 record, capturing the Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament titles - the program’s third tournament and regular season titles. Despite notching a program-high under Voss with the 26 wins, the Vikings were sent to top-seeded USC in the NCAA Tournament, eventually falling 3-1 to the national No. 1 seed in the first round. Cleveland State’s second NCAA Tournament appearance came during the 2012 season, when the Vikings captured the Horizon League Tournament title and earned the league’s automatic bid into the tournament field. The Vikings were sent to Kansas, where they notched their first-ever set victory in the NCAA Tournament. Voss and the Vikings picked up their first NCAA Tournament bid during the 2007 season, when Cleveland State swept through the Horizon League Tournament to claim its first-ever championship. The Vikings made their first appearance on a national stage against Albany, kicking off a string of three championships for Voss and the Vikings. VOSS COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
