CONSTRUCT DENVER

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Morayma Salas, CSI, CCCA

.

CONSTRUCT 2016 was a great event. Its success is a tribute to the great group of people who participated in its organization and planning. This event takes place for the education of our CSI Members and this year we selected WELL Building Standard as our theme. Our board members went above and beyond, making CONSTRUCT 2016 a successful event. We have received great and positive feedback from attendees and product representatives. CSI is always looking for new ideas and topics to present to our members. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to hear from you.

APRIL CHAPTER MEETING Our April 12 Chapter Meeting will feature a great presentation for product representatives (and the design professionals they call on!) Jim Whitfield, FCSI, CCPR, CTC, LEED AP, will present "When To Say No: A Product Representative's Dilemma of Providing Too Much 'Free' Assistance." Product representatives can learn the importance of being a source for accurate information, and learn how to NOT just be another “salesperson” or Product Rep. Jim is currently the Manager of Technical Services for Mapei. He manages the Technical Services group that provides support for Mapei’s products for Tile and Stone Installation Systems, Floor Covering Installation Systems and Products for Wood Flooring. Jim represents Mapei as a point of contact for ceramic tile industry trade associations and standards committees. Click and scroll down for our schedule of programs the entire fiscal year.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE, continued To tie everything together, we have scheduled quality educational programs that highlight and contribute to the Mission. Two great educational programs will take place at our monthly meetings in April and May. Don’t miss them. Also, we are proud to announce that on April 26, Sherwin Williams Resinous Flooring and General Polymers will be presenting a hands-on, educational program that will provide one AIA LU. We continue to increase the engagement of college students with CSI. Mike Young, our Treasurer and Certifications and Academic Affairs Chair, attended the Associated Schools of Construction Regions 6 & 7 Student Competition in February. The ASC is a connection he is championing as part of his involvement with the CSI Southwest Region. In addition, I am mentoring a student in his portfolio and resume review through the American Institute of Architects. Keep up the hard work. Thanks, Morayma (continued on photo next page) Check out the gallery for more photos from Construct Denver.

David A. Bishton, FCSI, NCARB, CCS, CCCA, SCIP FY16 has been a busy year for Institute leadership. President Lane Beougher and Executive Director Mark Dorsey have directed the Board into a detailed evaluation of our structure and goals, with the intent of improving both the Board’s and staff’s efficiency and to focus the Board on the health of the CSI “forest.” This includes good evaluation techniques and understanding of accountability. It has long been easy for CSI leaders to be distracted in the “trees” (even branches and twigs) of operations in an organization like CSI. click to continue reading
