Welcome From the College President At County College of Morris, we are proud of our mission to offer our students an outstanding education at an affordable price. Our faculty provides the teaching and experience that positively affect lives forever. Our students gain a quality education to realize their dreams. And our college continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our community. Over the past year, we have continued to enact articulation agreements to make it easier for CCM students to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. New partnerships with Rutgers University, Berkeley College, Drew University, Johnson & Wales University and the University of Phoenix will provide a seamless process for transferring credits. In addition to our academic offerings, the face of CCM is also changing to meet the needs of our students in the 21st Century. After a little more than a year, a completely updated Sherman H. Masten Learning Resource Center (library) will reopen next month following a $6 million renovation. It will be a state-of-the-art facility featuring new carpeting and décor, improved lighting, new furniture, an expanded art gallery, study rooms, a Starbucks Café, printed collections, Media Center (broadcast studio), Disability Services and the Testing Center. This summer, we will break ground on the Music Technology building – a 16,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the college’s Student Community Center. The facility, which will connect with the existing Performing Arts Center/Dragonetti Auditorium, will include an experimental theater that will serve as a large hands-on classroom, a recording-instruction studio; two standard classrooms; an electronic music/ aural comprehension classroom and piano lab; a second recording studio; a scene shop; dressing rooms and multiple student practice rooms. All this was in addition to major renovations of our Engineering labs, which were completed earlier this year. We are happy to be able to offer these updated facilities to enhance our students’ learning experiences. Welcome to the 2014 County College of Morris Foundation Scholarship Gala. We thank you for supporting this event. Each year, our Gala affords the opportunity to gather together, enjoy great dining, music, dancing and camaraderie. But it is also critically important in raising funds for our scholarship program – a program that enables more than 200 students each year to “start right” at CCM. With the cost of college tuition rising each year – even at community colleges – your support is critical in enabling many of our students to achieve their dream of a college education and a productive future. County College of Morris is so much more than just a college. It is an integral part of the life, culture and economy of Morris County. While providing outstanding, affordable education, CCM continues to serve as a hub for professional training and business outreach, a home for the performing arts, and a facility that is often utilized by the county’s political and non-profit community. One could not imagine Morris County without CCM.

Our annual Gala is an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the best of our college. Tonight, you’ll hear from Nicholas Cirillo ’14, who will represent our scholarship award students. Nick will graduate in May with an associate’s degree in communications. His eventual goal is to work in public relations for the entertainment industry. In addition to Nick, you’ll enjoy a selection from Company (our spring 2014 musical) by our Performing Arts students, and many of those students will also help display tonight’s silent auction items. We congratulate tonight’s Leadership Award winner, A. Dale “Bud” Mayo, as well as our Alumni Award recipients, and we extend our thanks to the 2014 Gala Committee for its hard work in putting this event together. Leadership Award

A. Dale “Bud” Mayo Chairman/CEO, Digital Cinema Destinations Corp.

A. Dale “Bud” Mayo is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Digital Cinema Destinations Corp., a rapidly growing NASDAQ listed company that is transforming movie theaters into interactive entertainment centers throughout the United States. Previously, Mr. Mayo was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cinedigm, leading the way in the transition from film to digital, a revolutionary shift for the entire motion picture industry. Earlier, he was a founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Clearview Cinema Group, the largest independent theatre circuit in the New York metropolitan area. Mr. Mayo is a member of the Motion Picture Exhibition Hall of Fame, recipient of the Telly Award and was selected to be an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. A graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business, he is an inductee of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for collegiate schools of business. Mr. Mayo has had a decades-long involvement in the performing arts in New Jersey, serving as a Board Member and Chairman of the John Harms Center (the predecessor of Bergen PAC). He has been instrumental in the development of the Community Theater of Morristown, serving as a Board Member, member of the Finance Committee, President and Chairman. Currently, he continues his involvement as the group’s Chairman Emeritus, where, in recognition of his extraordinary support, the Community Theater was renamed the Mayo Performing Arts Center in 2011. Mr. Mayo also currently serves as a Trustee of the Ocean Medical Center Foundation.

2014 Alumni Stars The County College of Morris Foundation, along with the CCM Alumni Association, inaugurated its annual Alumni Awards in 2003. Since then, more than 70 outstanding graduates have been added to the Alumni Hall of Fame. Tonight, we celebrate four more awardees for their achievements. The Alumni Award Recognition Program acknowledges those who meet specific criteria, including personal achievement, dedication to serving the public good, service to a segment of the college, and finally, for exceptional overall achievement in their professions, the Alumnus/a of the Year Award. The Alumni Association Hall of Fame salutes this twelfth class of distinguished inductees. Their achievements, service and dedication to their professional lives and to the community make all of us at the County College of Morris proud.

A L U MN A OF T HE YEAR Ann F. Grossi ’71 has held a variety of titles during her career: councilwoman, Morris County freeholder, lawyer, and most recently, Morris County Clerk. She manages 38 employees within five departments. Ann overseas the following services: property records, elections, identification documents (such as passports), notary documents as well as various certifications, registrations and other legal documents. The County Clerk is authorized to perform weddings and compiles a public manual of information on the county and its municipalities. As a Freeholder for the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 2011 to 2103, Ann chaired the Budget Committee in 2012 and was one of the driving forces behind the county’s innovative Flood Mitigation Program. Ann served as a Councilmember for the Township of Parsippany from 2006 to 2010 and held the roles of President and Vice President during her tenure. She earned an A.A. in Liberal Arts from CCM, then her B.A. and M.A. from William Paterson College, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law. Prior to her being elected as County Clerk, Ann was in private practice (Law Firm of Ann F. Grossi) focusing on labor & employment law, private and public sector investigations of unlawful employment practices; discriminatory practices, arbitration, grievances, workman’s compensation, governmental affairs, consulting, internal EEOC/NJLAD investigations, municipal and library law, administration, real estate, and general practice. Earlier in her career, Ann served as Associate Executive Director/In-House Counsel for the Newark Teachers Union and Regulatory Officer/Staff Attorney, Bureau of Securities for the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Consumer Affairs. She served as Law Clerk for DeMaria, Ellis, Hunt, Salsberg & Friedman. With the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division on Civil Rights, Ann held a variety of positions from Senior Investigator to Chief of Enforcement. In addition, Ann has participated as a board member or liaison for over 20 departments, committees and boards. In 2011, she was not only named Parsippany Woman of the Year, but also received the Outstanding Italian American Award from the Morris County Prosecutor’s office. Ann and her husband, Nick, reside in Parsippany and have one daughter.

A L U MN I AC HIEVEMEN T AWARD David Murray’s ’78 rich baritone voice, dramatic presence, and versatility as a performer has brought him acclaim from critics and audiences throughout the world. David began his professional operatic career in 1986 singing the role of Fiorello in Rossini’s Il Barbieri di Sivilia with the Boston Lyric Opera. He later went on to sing the title role of Figaro (in the same opera) more than 25 times in the US, Canada and Europe. Other notable and often performed roles include Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata, Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Eisenstein in J. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Equally at home on the concert stage, David has performed with the Boston Pops, Keith Lockhart and John Williams conducting, the Handel & Haydn Society, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Telemann Orchestra of Japan, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Boston Academy of Music (Opera Boston), Theatre Lyrique d’Europe, Chorus pro Musica, Boston Lyric Opera, Back Bay Chorale, as well as leading roles with Lake George Opera, Central City Opera, Eugene Opera, and Connecticut Concert Opera. Recent engagements include Soloist in Bach’s B minor Mass with the Annapolis Chorale, and Michele in Puccini’s Il Tabarro, Gianni in Gianni Schicchi and Don Alfonzo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with the Baltimore Concert Opera. On March 16, 2014 David sang the role of Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra at MIT. David has recorded for the Koch, New Albion, Titanic and CRI record labels. In addition to being a professional opera/concert singer and voice teacher, for the past 17 years David has been the Publishing Manager and Editor for Subito Music Corporation. As a music editor and graphic designer, he won numerous Paul Revere Awards for Graphic Excellence from the Music Publisher’s Association (MPA), and advises composers and publishers on editorial practice and style. Prior to his role with MPA he worked as a freelance editor and music engraver for Boosey & Hawkes, Carl Fischer and ECS Publishing. David earned his A.A. in Humanities/Music from CCM in 1978. He credits CCM Professor Marielaine Mammon, who was his first voice teacher, as the reason he was originally bitten by the opera bug. He continued his education at the New England Conservatory of Music where he earned a B.M. in 1981 and an M.M. in opera performance in 1987. He hopes he also inspires some of his students to go on to careers in opera.

AL U MN I HU MAN ITARIA N AWARD Michael O’Donnell ’77, has served as an educator and health care administrator for more than 30 years. Currently, he is Divisional Dean for Health Sciences and Dean of Campus Affairs for Gateway Technical College in Southeastern Wisconsin, one of the sixteen-member Wisconsin Technical College System institutions. The college offers more than a dozen associate degrees and technical diplomas in various health care disciplines. After earning his A.A. in Business Administration at CCM magna cum laude, Michael received a B.S. in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Health, both from the University of South Carolina. He was awarded a two-year U.S. Public Health Service traineeship to complete his studies. After completing Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, RI, Michael joined the staff of the Navy Surgeon General at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, DC. He was assigned to the Naval Hospital in Cherry Point NC. In 1984, he transferred to the Naval Reserve and accepted an assistant professorship in the Health Care Management program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Three years later, he was appointed Director of the University of Florida Health Science Center-Jacksonville and Executive Director of Jacksonville Health Education Programs, Inc. In 1990, Michael was deployed as a reserve naval officer to support Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Prior to his honorable discharge, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and awarded the Navy Commendation Medal. Upon returning to civilian life, Michael accepted a project director position with the Heart & Lung Institute at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville and earned an additional Master’s Degree from the University of Florida. During this time, he met his future wife, a nursing home administrator. Michael eventually accepted a position in Wisconsin, his wife’s home state. For the following twelve years, he served as the Director of Continuing and Professional Education at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In 2008, Michael was appointed Dean of Health Occupations at Gateway Technical College. He was promoted to his current positions in 2009. Michael serves on many boards and advisory committees and is currently the president of the Elkhorn (WI) Chamber of Commerce. Michael enrolled in nursing school in his mid-forties and became a registered nurse in 2007 with a specialty in emergency nursing. He is currently a member of the Wisconsin League for Nursing. Michael maintains an active lifestyle, He and his wife, Susan, have traveled to Europe, Canada, South America and Hawaii, and he has competed in over 100 5K and 10K runs and completed five marathons, including Boston. CCM has meant a lot to Michael, who was introduced to CCM through an instructor, Dr. John Gorman. Just about all of Michael’s siblings graduated or earned credits from County. He remembers the wonderful instructional staff, most notably Maggie Shoenfelt, Frank Doto, Hank Ryan, and Susan McFadden.

AL U MN I S ERVIC E AWARD Jessica Leone â&#x20AC;&#x2122;02 earned an A.S. in Business Administration. While a student at CCM, she was the recipient of an Alumni Scholarship, worked as a student aide in the Alumni Office, was a member of the Ambassador Club, and volunteered for the Alumni Phonathon. She credits CCM as a great first stepping stone puresuing an outstanding education. She gained great experience at CCM, which has helped her greatly in her career and life. Jessica continued her education at Fairleigh Dickinson University where she earned a B.S. in Finance in 2004. Jessica was hired by Wachovia Bank/First Union National Bank as a teller in 2001, where she had a variety of responsibilities, including handling customer transactions, processing new accounts, participating in team meetings, and building weekly teller schedules. She also served as the Captain for various fundraisers. In 2005, she accepted the position of bookkeeper for Superior Press Parts, handling various accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. Since 2006, Jessica has been employed by Travelport in the position of Billing Analyst, where she manages a portfolio of 2,500 U.S. and international accounts comprised of small travel agencies and large corporate accounts. Soon after graduating from County College of Morris, Jessica became a member of the CCM Alumni Board, where she has met many wonderful people while helping the college and the community. Throughout her tenure on the Board, Jessica has been a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer, assisting with such activities as the Alumni Association diploma frame sale at commencement, the CCM Foundation Gala and Auction, raffle sales, and CCMâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 40th Anniversary activities. She has also served on the Alumni Scholarship Committee, and can be depended on to participate in many Alumni Association events including bus trips, dinners, fund raisers, and Alumni Nights at performing arts productions.

Message From the Foundation President Thanks to the generous support of hundreds of donors, and the dedicated work of the CCM Foundation staff, our Board of Directors and the Trustees of the college, the Foundation enjoyed a very successful year in 2013-14. Gifts totaled $647,548. Individual giving (from alumni, friends, board members, retirees and the CCM staff) totaled $192,478. This year’s special focus was again the Visioning the Future campaign to create a new Media Center (broadcasting studio) at CCM. At year’s end, the campaign stood at $875,497 toward our $2 million goal. The majority of the $190,501 raised for programs were dedicated to that facility. As always, our scholarship program remains the primary beneficiary of our fundraising. In 2013-14, $249,979 was raised to provide financial support for more than 200 students in disciplines ranging from nursing to criminal justice to the performing arts. This past year, through the efforts of the Foundation, $250,242 was raised in government and private foundation grants. The beneficiaries included our Summer Academy, the Teen Arts Festival, CCM Celebrates Seniors and the Center for Teaching Excellence. This coming year, we’ll be embarking on a number of important initiatives to support the college, highlighted by the successful conclusion of our Visioning the Future campaign; the Commemorative Bench program, which allows donors to dedicate a bench on campus; and our Adopt-a-Chair campaign for the naming of seats in our Performing Arts Center. On behalf of all of at the Foundation, we thank you for your support over the past year. The strong commitment of our alumni, area corporations and the community at large allows us to continue to provide an outstanding educational experience for all of our students.

County College of Morris opened in 1968 as part of a legislative effort to create a system of community colleges to provide an accessible, affordable and high-quality higher education for state residents. Since its opening, CCM has graduated more than 43,500 students.

Create a lasting tribute to the performing arts at the County College of Morris through the CCM Foundationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s

Adopt-A-Chair program.

The Dragonetti Auditorium is home to CCMâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s performing arts, concerts, cultural events, education through the arts programs, CCM Shakespeare & Company as well as many musical and dance productions. Dollars raised from the Adopt-A-Chair campaign go directly to support the performing arts at CCM. The theater has hosted more than 60 dramatic and musical performances, and monies raised from the campaign provide ongoing support for every show. Adopt an individual seat, an entire row or more in the newly renovated Dragonetti Auditorium. Each adopted chair will permanently display a plaque that recognizes the donor for this special tribute to the performing arts at CCM. Plaques may also recognize an individual or occasion (anniversary, graduation, etc.) or can be inscribed to memorialize a loved one.
