Taupo and Turangi Lake Taupo is New Zealand’s largest lake and unlike the South Island lakes which have been carved out by glaciers, Taupo is an immense crater lake formed by eruptions some 22,000-50,000 years ago. From Taupo you can explore the thermal hot springs and sulphur terraces that the region is famous for, enjoy a game of golf on an international golf course, take a scenic flight or a relaxed sail over the lake. The Turangi region to the south still has the active and dramatic volcanic cone mountains of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngarahoe as well as a plenitude of outdoor activities, hiking, biking, kayaking and rafting. Both Taupo and Turangi offer superb fly fishing.

Central Otago Central Otago is the dry heart of the South Island. On this itinerary you start from Auckland, catching the short ferry ride out to the glorious and relaxing haven of Waiheke Island for your first three nights. Day 1 - Waiheke Island, Auckland Stay: Te Whau Lodge From Auckland, catch the ferry out to the nearby haven of Waiheke Island for your first three nights. Te Whau Lodge has a perfect setting. The Lodge’s contemporary design makes the most of the jaw-dropping panoramic views overlooking Putiki Bay in the foreground and across the Waitemata Harbour to Auckland city. Book a relaxing dinner at your accommodation tonight. Day 2 - Waiheke Island, Auckland Do: at leisure, explore the area with advice from your hosts Stay: Te Whau Lodge Waiheke has a laid back atmosphere but offers sophisticated attractions. The olive oil groves and vineyards offer tastings of award winning product and the island attracts amazing artists. Your hosts at Te Whau will advise you on interesting places to visit as well as rejuvenating coastal walks or sailing trips. Day 6 - Lake Taupo, Central Plateau Do: Barbary Charters Sailing Cruises on Lake Taupo Stay: Acacia Cliffs Lodge Enjoy a cruise to Taupo’s modern Maori Rock Carvings. Resembling the remains of ancient Maori civilization, they were created in the late 70s and reach a height of over 10 metres. The beautifully restored Barbary yacht has had a turbulent history including being won by Errol Flynn in a card game in 1938! Day 7 - Napier, Hawke’s Bay Do: Drive Taupo to Napier Stay: Breckenridge Lodge It is a short 2 hour drive to Napier from Taupo. Breckenridge Lodge is 10 minutes drive from town, up a secluded valley with a view over vineyards to the hills beyond. Dinner at Breckenridge is an experience not to be missed, so book well in advance. Day 10 - Wellington Do: Drive Napier to Wellington Stay: Museum Art Hotel Allow 4 1/4 hours to drive to Wellington from Napier on SH2. The Martinborough wine region is just over an hour before Wellington and a nice area to pause for coffee or late lunch. Greytown, on the main highway, is a pretty small town, or turn off the highway to explore Martinborough itself with its vineyards and olive groves. Day 11 - Wellington Do: Explore Wellington, visit Te Papa Museum Stay: Museum Art Hotel Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city, with real vibrancy. You can happily spend half a day strolling the waterfront and visiting Te Papa, the natural history and heritage museum. Take the Lambton Key Cable Car to Kelburn and combine a visit to the Carter Observatory with a stroll through the Botanical Gardens. The Zealandia Reserve allows easy viewing of New Zealand’s wildlife and the Weta Cave in Miramar showcases our film industry. Flat Earth Tours offer excellent full or half day city tours. The Museum Art Hotel is perfectly located on the waterfront directly opposite Te Papa museum. The hotel’s Hippopotamus restaurant is excellent. Day 5 - Akaroa, Canterbury Do: at leisure, explore the area with advice from your hosts Stay: Maison de la Mer Akaroa is one of New Zealand’s hidden gems, with a picture perfect harbour surrounded by volcanic mountains and a charming port village full of historic character and french settler influence. The town has a small cache of specialty boutiques and galleries. Day 6 - Oamaru, North Otago Do: Drive south to Oamaru Stay: Pen-y-bryn Lodge It is an easy 4 1/2 hour drive from Akaroa to Oamaru. Pen-y-bryn Lodge is high on a hill above the old town. The lodge gives you an insight into what New Zealand would have been like in the early days of the colony, with its billiard room and extensive formal living areas. Your hosts are superb chefs and you should endeavour to eat here most nights of your stay. Volcanic Heartland This trip includes one of the North Island’s special places, the Coromandel, as well as the dramatic volcanic centre of the North Island that is Lake Taupo, Tongariro National Park and Mt Ruapehu. Both are regions where there are a plenitude of outdoor activities, hiking, biking, kayaking and rafting. However their volcanic landscapes are very different. In the Coromandel, White and Mayor Islands lie far out to sea, their activity a distant and occasional plume. In Rotorua sulphur is in the air and in Turangi you can walk beside the active craters of Ngarahoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu. Day 1 - Waihi, Tairua, Eastern Coromandel Stay: Colleith Lodge From Auckland allow 2 1/2 hours to drive south towards the Coromandel and then via SH25A from Kopu to Tairua. Relax on the garden terraces at Colleith and enjoy sea views across Tairua harbour. Your hosts can make dinner reservations in town tonight. in the world. Continue through Taupo to the small village of Turangi. River Birches is a calm and relaxed sanctuary for your stay here, right next to the Tongariro river, famous for trout fishing and rafting. Day 5 - Turangi, Lake Taupo Do: The Tongariro Crossing with Walking Places Stay: River Birches Lodge The world famous Tongariro Crossing is a challenging one day alpine trek in an area of geological importance and cultural significance. The crossing is one of New Zealand’s “Great Walks” and rewarding for its alpine views, strangely turquoise lakes and the drama of volcanic vents emiting steam from the mountain sides. Walking places guide individuals and small groups only. Day 6 - Turangi, Lake Taupo Do: Rafting New Zealand White Water Rafting Stay: River Birches Lodge This is a popular grade 3 adventure on a beautiful clear river with rapids, chutes, optional waterfall jumps, fast paced action, slow meanderings, and river wildlife. Day 7 - Journey’s End Do: Fly out or join another journey. From Turangi you have a number of choices. Taupo airport is 45 minutes drive north (Rotorua Airport is another 1 hour north of Taupo). Both have multiple connections with New Zealand destinations. Alternatively you could drive 4 1/2 hours south to Wellington, explore this fun and eclectic city and be ready to cross on the Cook Strait Ferry to Picton and the South Island. It takes 1 hour 45 mins to drive across from Taupo to Hawkes Bay and Napier.

Enjoy a late lunch by the seal colony at Cape Foulwind (near Westport) and turn down the coast to Bird’s Ferry Lodge, which has magnificent views across native bush towards the Tasman Sea. Dinner fresh from Alison and Andre’s organic garden is a must.
Day 5 - West Coast near Punakaiki Do: Underworld Adventures Cave Rafting Stay: Birds Ferry Lodge Meander through a paradise of stalactites and stalagmites in the dry upper levels of the cave. In the lower Nile River canyon float on your tube along a slow moving underground river lit by glow worms. Day 6 - West Coast near Punakaiki Do: at leisure, explore the area with advice from your hosts Stay: Birds Ferry Lodge Spend a day exploring the start of the Heaphy Track at Karamea or the rock formations and blowholes at Punakaiki and the hour long Pororari River Track. If you prefer wheels to walking boots ask your hosts about the new Denniston Plateau mountain biking trails. Day 7 - West Coast Glacier Country Do: Drive South to Fox Glacier Stay: Mahitahi Lodge The drive from Birds Ferry to Mahitahi takes 4 hours. Explore Punakaiki , Hokitika arts and crafts and stop to take in the glacier at Franz Josef. Mahitahi Lodge is just south of Fox at Bruce Bay, a beautifully wild location close by a forested shoreline. Spend a late afternoon fishing, kayaking, beach wandering, penguin spotting or discovering the history of the area with your hosts. Pre-book dinner. Day 8 - West Coast Glacier Country Do: Flying Fox heli-hike with Fox Glacier Guiding Stay: Mahitahi Lodge Drive up to nearby Fox Glacier where you take the heli-hike option which allows you to explore a remote and exceptionally beautiful part of the glacier. Explore amazing formations and ice caves. Alternatively, walk around beautiful Lake Mathieson with views up to Mt Cook and explore the remote and wild Gillespie’s beach. Day 9 - Wanaka, Southern Lakes Do: Drive through the Haast Pass to Lake Wanaka Stay: Riverrun A spectacular 3 hour drive further down the West Coast, up the
mighty Landsborough and Haast rivers and over Haast Pass to lakes Wanaka and Hawea. Explore short walks to waterfalls and pools along the way. Riverrun Lodge is just outside Wanaka township on a 500 acre merino sheep farm. Book dinner for the night you arrive. Day 10 - Wanaka, Southern Lakes Do: The Siberia Experience with Southern Alps Air Stay: Riverrun Drive up to Makaroa where a short scenic flight takes you into the remotely beautiful Siberia Valley. Hike 2-3 hours through beech forest from one valley to the next. Then jump on a jet boat for an exhilarating ride out along a beautful braided river. Day 11 - Wanaka, Southern Lakes Do: Niger Stream Canyon with Deep Canyon Stay: Riverrun Explore the secrets of hidden river canyons. South Island Triathlon Not a race, but you do get to kayak, hike and bike your way around the South Island of New Zealand, amongst some of the best scenery, staying in gorgeous and characterful places and meeting fun people enroute. This Journey includes three iconic routes; a 4 day guided hike along the Queen Charlotte Track and kayak tour in the Marlborough Sounds, a 4 day bike ride (you can opt for a shorter option) on the Central Otago Rail Trail, followed by a 3 day hike through the Hollyford Valley in Fiordland to finish on the remote shores of the Southern Ocean, returning via Milford Sound. This is a trip for active travellers and does require good health and fitness. You will not need a rental car until Day 11, possibly not at all.* Day 1 - Blenheim, Marlborough Do: Arrive in Blenheim Stay: The Peppertree Fly into Blenheim airport from most major airports in New Zealand or take the Interislander Ferry from Wellington to Picton. Spend a night in the relaxing surroundings of The Peppertree, enjoying local food and wine and preparing for your kayaking and hiking adventure. Leave luggage with your accommodation until Day 5. Day 2 - Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Do: Ship Cove to Endeavour Inlet Stay: Furneaux Lodge A journey in Captain Cook’s footsteps along the renowned 71km Queen Charlotte Track. Explore these beautiful Sounds on foot and by sea kayak. Each night you come to rest at a comfortable accommodation place. Your guides will collect you from The Peppertree to embark on a boat trip to Motuara Island for a bird sanctuary tour en route to Ship Cove. Arrive late morning at Ship Cove to begin a 5 hour walk through beautiful native forest. Ship Cove was a favourite anchorage for Captain Cook during his explorations in the 1770s. Day 3 - Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Do: Furneaux to Punga Cove Stay: Punga Cove Today’s 4 hour coastal walk takes you around the inlet through
regenerating native bush to the call of bellbirds, fantails and other NZ native birds. Learn from your guide about the history of the area and at the end of the day you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Punga Cove resort. Day 4 - Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Do: Punga Cove to Lochmara Stay: Lochmara Lodge This morning you will be collected by water taxi from Punga Cove and taken on a short cruise to meet your kayaking guide at Torea Bay. As you paddle over these generally sheltered waters, your guide will explain the history of the Marlborough Sounds and point out wildlife. Lunch is a picnic of Marlborough fare on one of the uninhabited beaches along the way. Day 5 Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Do: Lochmara Lodge to Anakiwa and Piction Stay: The Peppertree Farewell Lochmara Lodge and paddle in and out of the secluded bays and idyllic coves towards the Grove Arm of Queen Charlotte Sound. Here bush overhangs the water’s edge - forest green against the azure blue of the Sound. After a sumptuous lunch, you paddle down to Anakiwa to meet up with other hikers and transport back to Picton and Blenheim. You will return to The Peppertree just in time for evening drinks and appetisers and a delicious meal. Day 6 - Central Otago Do: Fly Blenheim to Queenstown. Travel to Clyde Stay: Olivers Get a morning flight from Blenheim to Queenstown. Your Rail Trail Guide will collect you from Queenstown airport and transport you to Olivers Lodge in the historic village of Clyde where you spend your first night relaxing and preparing for the journey ahead. The Central Otago Rail Trail takes you through an iconic region of the South Island that is still very untouristed and less well known. The Maniototo features wide open plains and valleys, distant mountain ranges, gentle rivers (good for fishing and swimming) and charmingly preserved historic villages dating from gold mining
days. Your accommodation is a mix of comfortable lodges and characterful cottages. Dinner may be at your accommodation in the evening or at a nearby pub full of local flavour and identity. Day 7 - Central Otago Do: Central Otago Rail Trail (Clyde to Omakau/Ophir) Stay: Rail Trail accommodation arranged by your outfitters Leaving Olivers (you can leave suitcases there for safe-keeping) you ride the first section of the trail to Alexandra (by the rail trail route or the Clutha river) and up Tiger Hill to Omakau. Approx 37 kms. Day 8 - Central Otago Rail Trail Do: Central Otago Rail Trail (Omakau/Ophir to Wedderburn) Stay: Rail Trail accommodation arranged by your outfitters Your second and longest day on the Rail Trail, through river gorges and short tunnels and across railway viaducts. Approx 41 kms. Day 9 Central Otago Rail Trail Do: Central Otago Rail Trail (Wedderburn to Kokonga) Stay: Kokonga Lodge Your third day on the Rail Trail, passing through Ranfurly. Kokonga Lodge provides welcome comfort and panoramic Maniototo views from the lodge and garden. Approx 31 kms. Day 10 Central Otago Rail Trail Do: either Central Otago Rail Trail (Kokonga to Hyde) or return directly to Clyde Stay: Olivers Either return to spend an afternoon at Clyde or spend your last day riding from Kokonga to the little hotel at Hyde (14 kms) where your shuttle can collect you. Rest and recuperate at Olivers for the night. Day 11 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Drive from Clyde to Te Anau Stay: Fiordland Lodge Transport to your rental car depot in Queenstown is included. After collecting your car (see note at the end of this journey) drive south 2 hours to Te Anau. Relax over dinner at Fiordland Lodge.

South Island Triathlon - Part Two Day 12 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Hollyford Track Stay: Pyke Lodge on the Hollyford Track Have a sumptuous breakfast, and leave spare luggage at the lodge for collection on Day 14. Your expedition leaves at 9am. On the Hollyford Track you’ll re-trace footsteps of Maori and pioneer explorers, as the track follows the Hollyford River through the Fiordland Alps. The route undulates through native beech forest and beside impressive waterfalls. At the end of your first day you’ll be welcomed at Pyke Lodge by your lodge hosts, enjoy hot showers, 3 course cuisine and the opportunity to relax with a post dinner drink and savour the majesty of Mt Madeline. Day 13 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Hollyford Track Stay: Martin’s Bay Lodge on the Hollyford Track After a tasty cooked or continental breakfast you head off through the mystical forest to reach Lake Alabaster. A short walk later board a jet boat for a captivating scenic ride along the Hollyford River and down Lake McKerrow. You may encounter a family of Bottlenose Dolphins who are regular visitors to the lower river and lake. You’ll stop to discover the history of ill-fated Jamestown before walking among ancient forest giants such as native Rimu, Totara and Kahikatea, some up to 1000 years old. The towering lowland podocarp forest transforms into a tenacious coastal garden. Thunderous surf on the rugged West Coast is a prelude to a bay of boulders where the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin is a seasonal visitor. A little farther on, Long Reef plays host to a colony of native New Zealand Fur Seals where you’ll marvel at their nimble skills in the crashing surf and relax as they laze on the rocks. Martin’s Bay Lodge welcomes you at the end of the track. Day 14 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Hollyford Track Stay: Fiordland Lodge After another hearty breakfast you’ll explore Martin’s Bay Spit, a famous landmark separating the powerful Tasman Sea from the Hollyford Valley, and a coastal landscape that is a world away
from the previous days. View historical sites of Maori occupation of the area where chief Tutoko and his people guarded entry into the Hollyford Valley, controlling access into and out of highly valued pounamu (greenstone) gathering areas. You will also have the opportunity to explore in your own time the isolated beach and sand dunes or to just wander at your own pace with the Tasman Sea as your companion and reflect upon this intrepid journey. Returning to Martins Bay Lodge for lunch, your lodge hosts bid you farewell as you board your aircraft for a scenic flight along the rugged coast and into the truly spectacular Milford Sound where you’ll marvel at the grandeur of vertical granite walls rising from the sea. Once in Milford you’ll be met by your return shuttle host and travel the impressive Milford Road up through the famous Homer Tunnel cutting through a divide of sheer granite rock, and stopping at the source of the Hollyford Valley and River before embarking on your journey back to Te Anau and Fiordland Lodge. Day 15 - Journey’s End From Te Anau it is a 2 hour drive back to Queenstown airport (but allow 3 hours if meeting a flight check-in time!) From there you can fly out to most major airports in New Zealand and directly to some in Australia. Congratulations! You have completed a challenging but rewardingly active journey through some of New Zealand’s most beautiful but less visited places.

Lots of options for short walks and detours to rivers and pristine lakes. Riverrun lodge is just outside Wanaka township, set on a 500 acre merino sheep farm. If you still have energy, bike along the side of the Clutha river to Lake Wanaka and watch the sun set over the Alps. We suggest booking dinner for the night you arrive. Day 11 - Wanaka, Southern Lakes Do: Mou Waho Island Cruise and Walk with Eco Wanaka Adventures Stay: Riverrun A half-day trip up Lake Wanaka to Mou Waho island and hike up to an idyllic little lake called the Arethusa Pool with panoramic views of Lake Wanaka. Your guide from Eco Wanaka Adventures will point out buff weka, falcons, wood pigeons, bellbirds, fantails, wax eyes, greywarblers, the occasional kaka, geko lizards and wetas. Wild Havens of the Far South The far south of New Zealand has some of the most remote and wildlife-rich landscapes in the country. The Catlins and Otago Peninsula are famous for their marine life, penguins, seals and albatross, and for bird lovers an extension to Stewart Island is a must and will be your best chance to see kiwi in the wild. The Fiordland experiences included here are some of the best with a choice of overnight cruises on Doubtful Sound and the chance to participate in a Te Anau conservation program whilst enjoying an amazing helicopter ride and hike on the Kepler Peninsula. You can either fly to Stewart Island or continue on another 20 mins to Bluff where the ferry leaves. Port Of Call has both in-lodge accommodation and self contained cottages. Settle in to your accommodation and enjoy the plentitude of birdlife even within the tiny settlement of Oban. Day 6 - Stewart Island Do: at leisure, explore the area with advice from your hosts Stay: Port of Call Two choices - the Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary is a ten minute boat ride and is thronging with bird life. Alternatively, fly from Oban to Masons Bay on the far side of the island. This is one of the most beautiful and isolated beaches in the country and you may be lucky enough to see kiwi. The walk back to Freshwater Landing takes 3-4 hours where your water taxi awaits. fish this day also, but we suggest taking a day to explore Taupo or take in a helicopter excursion over the volcanic domes of Ruapehu and Tongariro. River Birches lodge is one of the best kept secrets in the central North Island. Nestled directly beside the Tongariro River, it is a perfect base for fly fishing. Day 5 - Turangi, Lake Taupo Do: Andrew Christmas Guided Fly Fishing Stay: River Birches Lodge River Birches is in the heart of an area that is world renowned for its fly fishing. Your guide will collect you from the lodge for an exciting day exploring the famous Tongariro River. If you have a non-fishing companion travelling with you, we suggest a guided hiking trip over the nearby Tongariro Crossing. There is also a gentle riverside walking and bike trail accessible directly from the lodge. Wanaka is located at the heart of the Southern Lakes District, nestling up against the Alps. The area is famous for its fine inland climate, beautiful lakes, snow-capped mountains and the vast wilderness of Mount Aspiring National Park. Riverrun Lodge is just outside Wanaka township, surrounded by a 500 acre farm which borders the Clutha and Cardrona rivers. Day 10 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Travel south to Te Anau Stay: Fiordland Lodge Allow 3-4 hours to drive from Wanaka to Te Anau. Fiordland Lodge is a masterpiece in log construction, using massive Douglas Fir logs milled from the site. Ron Peacock, one of the lodge owners is an avid fly fisherman and runs Fiordland Guides as well as the lodge. Dine at the lodge tonight. Day 11 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Guided Fly Fishing Stay: Fiordland Lodge There are over forty rivers and streams within 1 hour 30 minutes travel of Te Anau. They vary from small spring fed streams to moderate sized rivers. Your lodge is owned by keen fishing guides. Non-fishing companions can take a day hike on some of New Zealands classic walks guided by Trips and Tramps, an excursion to Milford Sound or or an afternoon cruise to the Glow Worm Caves. Day 12 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Guided Fly Fishing Stay: Fiordland Lodge Day 13 - Journeys End Queenstown airport is 2 1/2 hours drive from Te Anau with good connections to other New Zealand destinations as well as a number of direct flights from Australian cities. This Journey includes locations from the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies.
Wellington’s location settings for Lord of the Rings and visit Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop Cave. In the afternoon enjoy a short walk up Mt Victoria for fantastic harbour and city views.

Day 1 - Ponsonby, Auckland Stay: Great Ponsonby Art Hotel Arrive in Auckland and get ready for your Hobbit Journey. Gerry and Sally will welcome you to their centrally located Victorian villa home and point you in the right direction for events and eateries.
Day 6 - Abel Tasman, Nelson Region Do: Travel to Nelson Stay: The Resurgence luxury eco-lodge Fly Wellington to Nelson or take the Interislander ferry to Picton and drive across to Nelson. Stop at Pelorus Bridge, where the Hobbits escape down the river in barrels. The Resurgence is set high in the bush clad Riwaka Valley close by Abel Tasman National Park.
Day 11 - Arrowtown, Queenstown Do: Glenorchy Air Two Ring Trilogy Tour Stay: Arrowtown House Boutique Hotel Fly over the Kawarau River, the River Anduin, to Skippers Canyon and the Ford of Bruinen. Continue on to Mount Aspiring and the first scene from the Two Towers. Land at Glenorchy before flying over the Greenstone Valley, the location of Dunharrow and on to Mavora Lakes. Departs morning or afternoon.
Day 2 - Turangi, Lake Taupo Do: Travel south to Taupo and Turangi Stay: River Birches Matamata, 2 hrs drive south of Auckland, is home to Hobbiton. The village is a superbly constructed film set, solidly built and intricately detailed. Turangi is a further 2 hrs drive south, south of Taupo. River Birches lodge is located on the edge of the Tongariro river.
Day 7 - Abel Tasman, Nelson Region Do: Cape Farewell Horse Treks and Golden Bay Stay: The Resurgence luxury eco-lodge Hike to Harwood’s Hole and Caanan Downs and spot many familiar scenes. Continue to Golden Bay and join Cape Farewell Horsetreks to ride where the stars did in West Rivendell. Ride through the caves and watch seals play in the rock pools.
Day 12 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Drive to Te Anau Stay: Fiordland Lodge Allow 2 1/2 hours for the drive to Te Anau. If a Hobbit could design a luxury lodge, Fiordland Lodge would be it. The building is an amazing combination of splendid luxury and log cabin craftsmanship. Many of the actors stayed here during filming.
Day 3 - Turangi, Lake Taupo Do: Tongariro Crossing with Walking Places Stay: River Birches The Tongariro Crossing is famous as one of New Zealand’s most dramatic classic treks. Hiking the Crossing takes a full day and you will see the locations for some of Tolkien’s most spectacular landscapes; Mt Doom, Mordor and Emyn Muil.
Day 8 - Abel Tasman, Nelson Region Do: Reid Helicopters Nelson Lord of the Rings Helicopter Flight Stay: The Resurgence luxury eco-lodge An adventure into Middle Earth visiting Nelson’s two famous film sites. Mt Olympus was South of Rivendell and Mt Owen was Dimrill Dale in the first film, The Fellowship of the Ring. The site is extremely remote and can only be reached by helicopter.
Day 13 - Te Anau, Fiordland Do: Kepler Track Hike with Trips and Tramps Stay: Fiordland Lodge Take a water taxi across Lake Te Anau and enjoy a superb guided walk following the lake edge through beech forest on the Kepler Track, reminiscent of many Lord of the Rings locations.
Day 4 - Wellington Do: Drive south to Wellington Stay: Museum Art Hotel The drive from Turangi to Wellington on SH1 takes 4 hours. The Museum Hotel is situated in the city centre just opposite Te Papa, the stunning national museum, well worth a couple of hours.
Day 9 - Arrowtown, Queenstown Do: Fly south to Queenstown Stay: Arrowtown House Boutique Hotel Fly Nelson to Queenstown via Christchurch. Arrowtown is a delightful small village 15 minutes from busier Queenstown. Arrowtown House is 5 minutes stroll from the village centre.
