Your Local Pest Control Experts for Over 100 Years
All cities and towns throughout Pinal County have officially proclaimed April as Promise for the Future Month to raise awareness that the Central Arizona College Foundation Promise for the Future program provides affordable higher education to students in Pinal County. Pinal County along with the Cities of Apache Junction, Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy, Maricopa, and Towns of Florence, Kearny, Mammoth, Superior and Winkelman recognize the value of higher education. To help students reach their fullest potential, they support the Education Progress Meter and Achieve60 Attainment Goal. This will help grow local talent and improve economic sustainability for each community and the County. Promise for the Future is an educational initiative made possible through a partnership between Central Arizona College, the Central Arizona College Foundation, and Pinal County Middle and High Schools. Promise for the Future was designed to encourage students who reside in Pinal County to remain in high school and graduate from a Pinal County high school. During the month of April, the CAC Promise coordinator schedules visits with eighth grade classes to provide information about the Promise for the Future scholarships and encourage students with their parents/guardians to pledge their educational commitment. The Promise for the Future requirements inspires students to reach their full potential by challenging them to graduate with a minimum of a 2.75 grade point average and participate in 20 hours of community service. Students who successfully meet Promise for the Future requirements will be eligible to

Something fun coming to the Copper Corridor – Superior Burro Races
This weekend the Arizona Pack Burro Association along with Forever Home Donkey Rescue in Benson, Arizona visited Superior and hosted a Burro Cross 101 class to help potential runners participating in the upcoming Superior Burro Races scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019. The event on Saturday included a short 1.5 mile route at the Box 8 Ranch and a longer four mile run that
took participants through the archery range which is off of Golf Course Rd. Local residents may have seen some of the runners and their burros enjoying the day. Participants came from as far away as Yuma and Cave Creek to learn more about how to participate in the October event. Forever Home Donkey rescue provides the burros for a donation to allow runners who do not own burros to participate.
Pack Burro races are a very popular event in Colorado and are often hosted in mining communities to celebrate the mining history and culture of the area. Superior will be the first community in Arizona to host an official Burro Cross Race. The event will be sponsored in conjunction with the Superior Chamber of Commerce, Town of Superior and the Legends of Superior Trails Inc.

SPORTS
Superior baseball clinches Region Championship By Andrew Luberda Copper Area News The fourth-ranked Superior baseball team recently clinched the 1A East Region Championship and the accompanying automatic berth in the state playoffs. The Panthers accomplished one of their season’s goals despite dropping two-straight one-run games last week against third-ranked Ray (9 – 8) and No. 13 Arete Prep (7 – 6). After defeating both teams previously, last week was the Panthers’ second meeting of the season with each team, proving it’s always difficult to beat the same team twice in a season. Both games were perhaps the Panthers’ poorest of the season. They committed nine errors against Ray and left nine on base in each game. “I can’t take anything away from those teams,” Superior head coach Manuel Ortega said. “They came out ready to
play. “You can’t win a game when you have that many errors. Against Arete, we didn’t show up ready to play and Arete did. We didn’t execute on either side of the ball.” The Panthers were held to only four hits against Ray, none for extra bases. They had nine hits against the Chargers, including doubles by Gabe Otero and Gabe Castillo. Adam Navarrette, a sophomore, and junior Daniel McConnell each tripled in the loss. Sammy Lopez, a junior, went 2-for4 to lead the Panthers in hits. The pitching in both games was uncharacteristic compared to the performances on the mound throughout the season. Now, the Panthers must turn the page and prepare for the playoffs that are scheduled to begin on May 3, at the Goodyear Baseball Complex. “These loses will make us better and ready for what state has to bring us,” Ortega said. “The boys know that if they
don’t show up or don’t execute, we will be going home early. You always learn more from your losses than you do with your wins. We will bounce back.” Superior is just two years removed form their last state title (2017). They’ll be trying for their second state championship in three years and should be prepared for the one-and-done format of the playoffs. “The greatest challenge of winning a state championship is being able to perform under pressure,” said Ortega. “Being able to stay focus and not break. There are are some good teams in the state. Everyone is dangerous because it’s win or go home, so being able to stay focused and being able to perform under pressure moments is huge.”
