LETTERS TO THE EDITOR From Family First: Take Some Time As I look out of my shop to the distant snowcapped mountains, I see the Mesquite trees that have been bare all winter just starting to bud out! On the ground below are flowers of all kinds popping out, just like that ground hog looking for his shadow to see if winter is over. The sun above looks brighter today as I marvel at all the new life surrounding me. Even though I am a grandpa now, with my children grown up with children of their own, I marvel at the wonder of a newborn child! We are blessed at Family First to see this miracle of new life up close and personal every day. We are here to encourage, buildup, and teach the new moms and dads during the best time of their lives. Sometimes they just need to hear that having children is the best thing they will ever accomplish! We all need to hear that as we pass through this life! That’s why I love this time of year as we celebrate spring

and the Easter Holiday. It’s a time to celebrate our life, a time to celebrate God’s gift of life for us, the giving of His Son so we could have life! So, if you want to feel a little younger take some time and go outside to take in the marvel of spring time, the new growth and the new life! Take some time to be around young children and pour into their lives. Join with us at Family First to help that next generation be the best they can be! Family First; “helping mothers, youth and families!” Happy Easter! “For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son.” John 3:16 God Bless, /s/ Frank and Clare Grochocki

Shame on whoever took the library’s money How sad is this? We have had a five gallon water bottle setting on the front counter for over a year collecting money for the Kearny Library. Well, last Thursday there was only one person working. We try to have two but that’s not always possible. Sometime when his back was turned, someone took our jug with all the money. We use any moneys that come in to purchase books I can’t get through the county as well as buy supplies for Coffee And Conversation, Story Hour, Ladies Day Out, National Library Week Contest Winners Goodie Bags, Summer Reading Program incentives and prizes. Whoever did this didn’t just steal from us. They stole from the community and now we don’t have our jug to

collect money in. If you have any information on this please call the library at 363-5861. /s/ Janet Danilow Kearny Public Library

Prevention is key when it comes to wildfire risk reduction The adage is true. One spark can start a wildfire – just like the Sawmill Fire in Southern Arizona. And every year, people continue to be the number one cause of wildfires in the state. With the abundance of winter moisture across Arizona, the Department of Forestry and Fire Management wants to remind people not to get complacent. Sunday, April 7, kicked off Southwest Wildfire Awareness Week with this year’s theme, ‘Prevention today for protection tomorrow.’ The goal of the week is to promote actions that prevent human-caused wildfires and reduce the risk of wildfire to homes and our Arizona communities. And prevention is key when it comes to wildfire risk

reduction. Homeowners can do simple tasks to keep wildfire threat low by creating defensible space around their property. Oracle Firewise suggests that the defensible space be 30 feet around your home. The Town of Kearny, this week, announced that on April 19 it will begin warning and citing homeowners for having weeds, dry shrubs or dead trees on their property. Drivers can help by ensuring tow chains are secure, never tossing cigarette butts out the window, and making sure the vehicle – and tires are in good condition before getting on the road. To promote the week, DFFM will be focused on increased social media marketing and public service

announcements. The Arizona Department of Transportation will also put up messaging on their highway signs, including “Don’t Drag Chains, One Spark Can Start a Wildfire.” Recently, DFFM released a mobile phone application as another tool to provide wildfire information, fire restriction details, and fire prevention tips. You can download the free app by searching the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management on the iTunes or Google Play stores. This year, Southwest Wildfire Awareness Week runs April 7-13 and is a joint collaboration between DFFM, the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildfire Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service,

and New Mexico State Forestry Division. Some Bunny in the Copper Basin sure loves Easter

It’s springtime and that means the Easter bunny is on his way, to visit and spread cheer, here, there and everywhere. Easter Egg hunts, here in America, are a nationwide celebration, thrown by local governments, celebrated in news as tots scramble across the lawn of the White House, hosted by church groups and non-profit organizations, making Easter more than just a family or religious holiday. Yet, making it, at one and the same time, very much all about the family; but, the larger family, covered over by the same flag, and, united by choice. The Towns of Kearny and Hayden, adding

to the fun, are hopping with activity, getting ready for their annual Easter Egg Hunts. Bring your family, friends, bonnets and baskets to Hubbard Park in Kearny on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. to hunt and seek the hidden, myriad-colored treasures, in a traditional community activity that links the generations. To volunteer, please come at 7 a.m. If you live in the Hayden-Winkelman area, the Easter Bunny will be hopping over your way at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. Come early to hunt Easter Eggs and stay later for lunch: free hot dogs, chips and water.
