LOST to host grand opening celebration of Arnett Canyon Segment The Legends of Superior Trails (LOST) Inc. is excited to announce that it will hosting a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for the Arnett Canyon segment of the LOST on Sunday, March 24, 2019. The ceremony will be held at the Picket Post Trailhead of the Arizona Trail and will begin at 9 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 8:45 a.m. This grand opening is a day long awaited by those who have been working on the trail system. The LOST was the first trail designated as a gateway community connector trail that connected the Town of Superior to the Arizona Trail Picket Post trail head. The

original trail was demolished when the US 60 was expanded from two lanes to four lanes. Funding to mitigate the loss of the important trail access trail was allocated by the Arizona Department of Transportation. That funding allowed the Tonto National Forest and the LOST to create a new alignment and construct the trail. Youth crew members from the Arizona Conservation Crews were contracted to construct the trails. The last phase of construction will be installation of signage. Now both day users and those hiking the entire length of the Arizona Trail

can safely access Superior through the Arnett Canyon segment. The new trail alignment does feature a two mile loop trail that connects the Picket Post Trailhead into Arnett Canyon and back

to the Arizona Trail for those wanting a quick hike. Hikers can also hike from the Picket Post Trailhead to the Superior Municipal Airport via the LOST Arnett Canyon segment and through Pinal City.
