Pinal County Superior Court to pilot Online Dispute Resolution program PHOENIX – Arizona’s Administrative Office of the Courts announces the launch of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR), a new pilot program in Pinal County, beginning March 25, 2019. ODR is a free service that can be used over the internet without having to go to a courthouse. When a party in the Pinal County Superior Court files to initiate or modify a family

court matter, ODR will allow the parties to negotiate their case online with the help of a court facilitator. The service is free, and in most cases, eliminates the need for parties to appear in person at the courthouse. Based on the issue to be decided and other factors, the Pinal County Superior Court’s Conciliation Services Department

identifies the cases that can take part in ODR and invites the parties to register in the program. The program is available to the parties 24 hours a day from either a computer or a mobile device and allows the parties to communicate directly with the court facilitator assigned to their case. The facilitator moderates the conversation between the parties and prepares the court

documents online for filing with the court. Pinal County’s program is one of several pilot programs testing this technology for its potential use in courts around the state. For more information about participating in Pinal County’s program, please contact the Pinal County Superior Court, Conciliation Services Department at 520-866-5760.

LOST celebrates

More than 100 people gathered at the Picket Post trail head on Sunday morning for a ribbon cutting celebration and hike on the newest segment of the Legends of Superior Trails. In 2011, the LOST had opened the first Gateway Community Connector trail connecting the Arizona

National Scenic Trail to the Town of Superior. That trail alignment was closed in 2015 when the Arizona Department of Transportation expanded the US 60. Fortunately the highway expansion provided mitigation funding for building a new Gateway Community Trail to Superior. It took the LOST, ADOT and the Tonto National Forest

Superior’s McConnell does it all against No. 4 Bearcats By Andrew Luberda Copper Area News

Top-ranked Superior benefitted from a memorable performance by junior Daniel McConnell, who starred on the mound and at the plate in the Panthers’ 4 – 1 victory at Ray last Wednesday. The loss was the Cats’ first of the season and ended their seven-game winning streak. On the mound, McConnell limited the Cats’ high-scoring offense, which entered the game averaging more than 15 runs per game, to only two hits and an unearned run with three walks and eight strikeouts in 6-2/3 IP. He also helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles, with three RBI’s. “(Daniel) had an all-around performance by helping himself out and drove in some runs,” Superior head coach Manuel Ortega told the Superior Sun. “His performance

on the mound was amazing. He controlled the game and executed very well.” Gabe Otero, Kale Major and Jesus Castellanos each had two hits for the Panthers, Castellanos, a senior, pitch onethird of an inning to pick up the save. Wednesday’s game was the first of two – and likely more – between two teams that may be the favorites to play for the state championship later this spring. “I like how my team is playing right now,” Ortega said. “This is a team game and everyone from the first batter all the way down to the bench players have to execute and do their job. If we keep playing like this, we will be a very tough team to beat.” Superior up next: Mar. 28 at Bagdad (5 p.m.), Mar. 29 vs. Valley Union (3:15 p.m.), and Apr. 2 at Duncan (4 p.m.). Ray up next: Mar. 29 vs. Duncan (4 p.m.), Apr. 1 vs. NFL Yet Academy (4 p.m.) and Apr. 2 at Ft. Thomas (4 p.m.).

Lorona’s long ball leads No. 1 Ray past No. 5 Superior By Andrew Luberda Copper Area News Senior Tara Lorona, a Gateway Community College commit, broke a scoreless game with a sixth-inning homerun to lead the top-ranked Lady Bearcats to a 1 – 0 victory against the visiting Pantherettes last Wednesday. The game was the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams with the potential for a third in the playoffs, where both figure to be contenders for a state title in May. Lorona’s blast was one of only two Lady Cats’ hits in the game but it was enough with senior Daniella Hinojos on the mound. Ray’s ace tossed

a three-hit, completegame shutout to pick up her fifth-straight win of the season. She fanned eight and issued only one walk. Superior senior Korinna Romero matched Hinojos nearly pitch for pitch. In her longest outing of the season, Romero surrendered only two hits while striking out six Ray hitters without issuing a walk. Seniors Lindsay Ketron and Marisa Estatico accounted for two of the Pantherettes’ three hits. Sophomore McKenna Duarte had the other.
