Cosme Real

Cosme R. Real went peacefully to be with our Lord on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. He was born to Cosme and Josepha Real of Sonora, Arizona. Cosme retired from Kennecott as a blasting supervisor after 38 years and retired again from the Superior Water Treatment Plant after 13 years. He grew up and went to school in Sonora, Arizona. In his earlier years, he was on the Ray-Sonora Tiger Baseball Team, which was one of the first Hispanic teams in the area. His fondest memories were his horses and helping his

father as a local supplier in the small town of Sonora. Cosme and his wife were business owners of the El Charro in downtown Sonora in the late 1950s. Cosme relocated his family to Superior in 1959 and later helped establish the Sonorense Club. He became the first president of the club where he and Elsa were active members for many years. His greatest pleasures were his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed their company

and the special gatherings throughout the years. Cosme is survived by his wife, Elsa Real; children, Veronica Heron (Richard), Danny Real (Linda), Robert Real (Margie), Michael Real (Laura) and David Real (Priscilla); 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior with the viewing at 9:30 a.m., Rosary at 10 a.m. and the Funeral

John Terrence Phelan

John “Terry” Terrance Phelan, 69, passed away on Dec. 31, 2013 at his home in Aravaipa, AZ. John was born on May 18, 1944 in Ray, AZ the son of John Joseph and Etta (Cutler) Phelan. John grew up and attended school in Hayden, AZ graduating for Hayden High School where he was an all-star athlete.

He worked in the mines for over 20 years. He was a hardworking man who loved his family with everything he had. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janice; children, Lisa (Antonio) Meza, Tammy Phelan, Desiree Phelan and Sean Phelan; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jackie Damron and Denise Phelan-Propst. He is preceded in death by his son John J. Phelan III. Graveside services were held at Mountain View Cemetery, Hayden, AZ on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. Robert Martinez Jr. Funeral services for Robert Martinez Jr. will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny with the viewing at 9 a.m. and Rosary at 9:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Alex Tigga. A viewing is also planned for Friday, Jan. 17, at Griffith Mortuary from 6-9 p.m. Mr. Martinez, a resident of Dudleyville, passed away on Jan. 11, 2014. A full obituary will appear at a later date.
