Copa Airlines Business Lounge CONCEPT Functional Concept The design solution for the Copa Airlines Club Lounge strives to promote and boost reoccurring visits through place attachment by using Panama imagery and allusions to nature. The design’s goal is to reduce the stress, anxiety, discomfort and uncertainty caused due to air travel by offering designated areas to promote relaxation, and stimulate productivity, thus enriching the passenger’s overall experience during travel.
Design Concept The Copa Airlines club lounge is based on organic design fused with naturalistic design. The elements of rhythm and symmetry are applied to the plan arrangement to emphasize nature and serenity. Aesthetics that mimic vernacular design and organic form are incorporated to create a soothing environment that radiates ease and refuge. The design will provide a comfortable and elegant environment that renders the image of Copa Airlines; this will be achieved through the use of organic lines and form that imply the brand’s constant movement and progression. In addition, imagery from Panama’s biodiversity, landscape and culture will be implemented to portray the origins of the company. The design is inspired by the concept of the umbrella which symbolizes protection and comfort which are two core elements of the company’s vision.

Copa Airlines Business Lounge SUSTAINABLE FEATURES Site Selection
Brownfield Redevelopment: The site used to be a swampland. Heat Island Effect窶年onroof: A building that has placed a minimum of 50% of parking spaces underground or covered by structured parking. The parking spaces in the Tocumen International Airport are all covered by a structure.
Alternative Transportation
Private employee transportation: Airline provides bus transportation for pilots, copilots, flight attendants and other employees. This measure is taken to ensure timely arrival to the workplace and to reduce pollution and land development impacts from automobile use WaterSense-certified fixtures and fixture fittings are used. Use of alternative on-site sources of water (e.g., rainwater, storm water) through a water harvesting system and gray water system for non- potable applications such as custodial uses and toilet and urinal flushing. ENERGY STAR qualified equipment is incorporated in the project. This includes appliances, office equipment, electronics, and commercial food service equipment. Lighting Controls: To achieve increasing levels of energy conservation beyond the prerequisite standard to reduce environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use. Daylighting: Daylight responsive controls are installed in all regularly occupied day lit spaces within 15 feet of windows and under skylights. Daylight controls switch or dim electric lights in response to the presence or absence of daylight illumination in the space. Occupancy/ Vacancy Sensors: Occupancy sensors are installed for 75% of the connected lighting load. Regional Materials: To increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the regional economy and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation, the project will use a minimum of 20% of construction materials that are manufactured regionally within 500 mile radius. Some regional materials that are included are lumber and stones. Rapidly Renewable Materials: To reduce the use and depletion of finite raw materials and long-cycle renewable materials by replacing them with rapidly renewable materials. Low Emitting Materials: -The building specifies low-VOC materials in construction documents. Ensure that VOC limits are clearly stated in each section of the specifications where adhesives and sealants are addressed. Products evaluated include flooring, paint, and surfacing materials.
