Functional Concept The design solution will provide a technologically-friendly and comfortable environment for millennial students and their faculty that will promote learning through communication and collaboration while increasing the avenues for resources. The mixed flow circulation in the space will provide opportunities for flexibility and points of interest. Sustainable and universal design will broaden the functionality of the space while catering to millennials’ need for contemporary structure in both organization and overall atmosphere.

Programming

Design Concept Inspired by the close relationship between millennials and technology, the concept of tree will promote constant interaction and information sharing. The various levels and degrees of a tree mimic the varying skills and talents of the millennial generation. Using the naturalistic design approach with a centralized grid form, the space will have ease of movement that promotes social and academic collaboration. With the design on an axis, gesturing and transparency will help achieve organization and circulation throughout the space. Interlocking and adjacent spaces will also enhance the opportunity for communication and increase interaction.
