Faith Christian School will hold commencement exercises for 18 seniors at 7 p.m. Thursday at Golden Springs Baptist Church. Anthony Cook will speak. Baccalaureate services will be at 8 a.m. today at Faith Presbyterian Church. Erik McDaniel will speak. Valedictorian is Dorothy Raye Vernon. She is the daughter of Raymond and Rebecca Vernon of Anniston and the granddaughter of Ida Bell Vernon of Montgomery and the late Raymond Vernon, Margaret Tanner of San Antonio, Texas, and the late Shelby Tanner and the late Pierce Sims. Vernon’s awards and honors include being accepted to the 2010 Alabama Governor’s School and the 2009 Capstone Leadership Academy for sophomores. She was chosen for three Writer’s Bowl teams, DAR Good Citizen and was a member of the Beta Club and Key Club. She plans to attend Troy University and major in American Sign Language Interpreting. Elise McDonald. She is the daughter of Suzanne McDonald and Allen McDonald, both of Anniston, and the granddaughter of the late Bob and Bea Whitman of Anniston and Peggy McDonald of Anniston. McDonald was a HOBY representative, received superior ratings in AVA choral competitions, was vice president of SGA, a member of the A-B Honor Roll, Beta Club, Key Club and was editor of the yearbook. She plans to attend the University of South Alabama on a Presidential Scholarship and major in biomedical sciences, then attend the university’s medical school and specialize in infectious disease.

Historian is Kayla Makenzi Shiflett. She is the daughter of Scott and Aimee Shiflett of Anniston and the granddaughter of M.C. and Jackie Shiflett of Oxford and John and Jewell Ann Watkins of Glencoe. Shiflett was selected for the JSU Emerging Leaders Conference, received superior ratings for AVA choral competitions, lettered in cheerleading, was a member of the A-B Honor Roll, Beta Club, Drama Club, Builders Club, Key Club and Choir. She plans to attend Gadsden State Community College, then transfer to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to major in pharmacy.
