All the fun of the fair for children at Carnival City This December holiday, young visitors to Carnival City will encounter a bright, freshly painted and refurbished new look at The Magic Company. New machines have been introduced, the prize shop now has six stations and the exciting new Lazer Zone offers a brand new action-packed activity for children. In the Magic Carnival youngsters can amuse themselves with the very latest technology in interactive and simulation arcade games. And as always, the 12-lane ten pin Cosmic Bowling alley offers fun for the whole family and the electronic scoring takes the headache out of keeping count. Outside the complex, at the Magic Company’s Pocket Park, children of all ages will enjoy testing their skills at arcade games involving throwing darts into balloons, tossing a Frisbee, aiming balls into basket hoops and shooting at moving targets.

With this in mind, five musicians convened Stepping up to the mike is Gert Barnard, a man who has lived and breathed Johnny Cash for earlier this year to find out exactly where that place most of his life. He bears a striking resemblance was. to the man in question. Their subject matter was an artist who filled his 70 years on this earth with a staggering amount of music. The Man in Black was there for the birth of Rockabilly in the 1950's, sharing the stage with the likes of Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and others. He soldiered on for another five decades, the eternal rebel forever at odds with the corporate record industry and other authoritative figures. The eighties weren't exactly kind to him but his 'American recordings' project brought him back to prominence and served as a fitting farewell from a man who touched many a life. Johnny Cash, as his famous song suggests, did indeed stand up for the unlucky, the reckless ones, the poor and the beaten down. While the show features some of his later work, the Johnny Cash Pilgrimage felt that the bulk of the performance should consist of the now signature Tennessee Three-sound, that wonderful music most famously documented on the 'live at Folsom Prison' album. A time that featured songs about love, hardship, hope, joy, trains, prisoners, cowboys, good and bad women, and of course the odd serious crime and the inevitable consequence of such actions. All the members of the band are Johnny Cash fans and consider the show to be a labor of love. A lot of effort has gone in to recreating that magical era and the sound that influenced many a musical journey, including their own. The ninety minute set includes highlights that will please both the casual fan and Cash connoisseurs. So, whether you saw the movie and fell in love with 'Ring of Fire' or discovered 'the wreck of the old 97' in your parent's record collection, we guarantee a good night out on the tiles. The journey ends when we all feel better about ourselves, was that not the

René pursued the acoustic Afrikaans market for a number of years ("Kampus Lady" – Polygram, 1996 & "Die verkeerde kant van reg" – Bowline, 2003), while working fulltime. Both these albums were released nationally and received very good reviews. Esther abandoned her creative side a while to build a practice and raise children. Humble, engaging and real Dale and John chatted to me on a bench beneath a mystical rusty moon, thorn trees, and warmly glowing Chinese lanterns – nestled in the cradle of African beats at the hyped and revered music festival OppiKoppi, in Northam, Limpopo, on 12 August 2012. Hisses, purrs and a chorus of 20 000 elated souls magically bonded as they danced with swirling phantoms of the dust surrounding vibing stages to their mission: ‘peace and light unto you, thy unknown brother’.

That’s why music’s great, it can help you through something like that, and it does. After we’ve played, that’s the best feeling. Whatever’s bothering you, let go and get it out through the music. Shaun does that with lyrics … it’s therapeutic”. On Seether’s music styles, John said that although their latest album consists of calmer melodies, he also highlights the untamed heavier rock song Fur Cue. And then the other surprise Country Song, named Active Rock Song of the Year by Billboard, spent an amazing 11 weeks at no.1 over the course of the year. It achieved Gold status for sales of over 500 000 units digitally by the RIAA. “Country Song started with our previous guitarist Troy – with a li’l twangy piece. This doesn’t sound like a rock song – we said ‘let’s try it’. Shaun came up with that riff part in the chorus.

After putting those two together, it was really cool! We like to come out of the gates with something weird. Like on the last album Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces, we did Fake it – also not what people were expecting from new album. At that stage there were mixed feelings, as there The slightly quieter outdoor interview ambience was were with Country Song. really chilled. I met Shaun earlier. Cascades Hotel, Sun City, where he said “we had Black label quarts of Beer, Old brown sherry, Runaways: Chicken feet with claws, Pap and Sheba, Boerewors rolls with Chips, Koeksusters”… en alles, true South African style! Dale admitted that those are the things that he misses about this country, as well as the culture, people and especially family and friends. It is for this South African “fix” that he tries to return annually.

Their album Disclaimer, 2002, includes the melodic international hit Broken featuring Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee, amongst some harder rock tunes too. These artistic, often eclectic elements mix uniquely and dynamically to spell ‘SEETHER’.

“We worked with producer Brendan O’Brien whose goal was ‘melody with heavy music’. SHAJOL going on tour to South Africa! Emalyth is proud to announce the South African Nationwide Tour of South American progressive death metal band, Shajol, alongside our local 'swine-core' piggies, Boargazm. Biography The concept of SHAJOL, a metal band from Quito-Ecuador, originated in May 2006 after a trip to Sweden and Israel where the international influence of European and Middle Eastern music was combined with metal bases in Ecuador. Galo Herrera (Lead guitar) and Milton Galarza (Vocals) formed the band along with members from other bands, Sebastián Ortiz (Mal Rojo, guitar) and Ismael Villaroel (Spiritual Lyric Sound, bass) but they both parted ways after the first demo leaving Galo and Milton to continue the project. Three years later, Galo travelled to Tel Aviv to continue his musical studies with the prestigious Berklee College of Music Network at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. It was here that Galo met Abraamsky Itay, a renowned drummer in the Middle Eastern Music scene. He joined SHAJOL during the time of Galo’s period of studies. The band remained dormant for a few years until January 2012 when the line up was completed by David Barzallo (Nirodha) on Bass and David Tomaselli (Vomitorium and Descomunal) on Drums, along with originals Herrera and Galarza. Six years after its creation Shajol has commenced the recording process for their debut album “Device of Madness” at Midside Studios and La Increible Sociedad in Quito-Ecuador. SHAJOL has sought from its inception to fuse the bases of metal music with other genres, creating a new concept of contemporary music in Ecuador. Its musical composition includes variations in the percussion’s tempo and measures, complex performances on the harmonization of strings and ending with guttural vocals inspired by techniques found in Black, Death, Grind and Math Metal. With the recordings from their new album, Shajol has been invited to tour eight cities across South Africa in December 2012 by local metal promoter and event organizers, Emalyth. “Device of Madness” has shown great success locally and internationally. With the little time out of the studio, the band´s material has been published on digital channels of music broadcasts in the USA, Canada and Europe like: thenewreview.net network metalunderground.com elbo.ws. Websites from Japan are posting SHAJOL´s songs as well, and finally Black Apple Productions in South Africa did and interview to the band A radio station in the United Kingdom is playing our songs at Thursday Night Rocks which is available online: http://www.dapperfm.co.uk/ More reviews from Scandinavian countries are coming soon as well as big things for the band in different performances. SASSON- Sasson is a three piece rock band from Rustenburg, South Africa that came together through divine intervention in 2009. Guitarist Martin Westman and drummer Jimmy Pearson started jamming together privately just for kicks. After a couple of months of thrashing away , the rock solid rhythm section invited singer/bass player Joseph de Paiva to one of their jam sessions, initially to play bass, later on they discovered that he could also sing. The trio then realised that they had all the necessary criteria to form a band and with this realisation they began to write songs together.Sasson has a Nirvana meets Seether kind of a sound to them. The band draw their inspiration from the likes of extraordinary rock outfits such as Chevelle, Bullet For My Valentine, Breaking Benjamin, Three days grace, Staind, Demon hunter and many many more. 2012 has seen the release of their debut EP titled “Stumble, it is without a doubt an audio feast for all lovers of rock music. BUSTIN CHOPS - THE MOVIE: SYNOPSIS The movie starts 5 years after stuntman Eugene Koekemoer and his crew of misfit stuntmen left the world of fame with their Stunt TV shows and started to work regular 9 to 5 jobs. Everybody seems to be doing well except Eugene, so he devises a way to get his whole crew back to follow him one more time on the road to fame. It doesn't end there, Eugene's plan is to make a STUNT movie and show it to Steven Spielberg when he visits South Africa. Follow Eugene and his crew on a journey of blood, pain, and sorrow, as he attempts to pull of the biggest con in history. BEHIND SCENES INFO CAST AND CREW COMMENTS Including planning, the entire project took 2 years to complete. Eugene Koekemoer (Loveless Entertainment) and Danie Barnard (Bake Media) formed a collaboration to make the feature; they both directed and produced the entire movie. Because the budget was so low, Eugene and Danie, all the cast and everyone's family members jumped in to make this feature a success QUOTES AND QUIRKS FROM CAST AND CREW: Louis decided to wear the same suit from the start to end of the movie, and actually pulled it off. Louis's favourite quote: I hate you Paul! Wikus spent a week on the stoep of a house, and got the nickname STOEPIE, favourite quote: Has anyone seen my pants? Jaco slept most of the time while we filmed and only woke up to do his stunts, his favourite quote: Leave me the f‌ alone, I'm sleeping. Paul, the oldest of the cast (38 years) couldn't stop moaning for 1 minute, and had the entire crew tattoo their names on his ass, favourite quote: I'm to old for this shit, I don't want to do this. ‘Lotus’ is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Christina Aguilera.

It will be released on November 9, 2012. After the low sales figures of her sixth studio album Bionic (2010), Aguilera was inspired by many events in her life, including being on The Voice, and having had a divorce, which she describes as a rebirth to her. Aguilera recorded the album at her home studio, with new collaborators such as the known Alex da Kid, Max Martin, Lucas Secon, while also working with new producers such as Jamie Hartman, Aeon Manahan, Chris Braide, Supa Dups and Jason Gilbert. The album contains two duets with Aguilera's co-stars on the reality talent show "The Voice", Cee Lo Green (on "Make the World Move") and Blake Shelton (on "Just a Fool").

Sonically, the album dips into many genres, from dance-pop on "Your Body" and "Make the World Move", piano-driven power ballads on "Sing for Me" and Sia collaboration "Blank Page", who she previously worked with Aguilera on "Bionic", and rock-tinged empowerment anthems on "Army of Me" and "Cease Fire". Aguilera also described the song "Army of Me" as "Fighter 2.0".

The lead single, "Your Body", was released on September 17, 2012. It received positive reviews from music critics and mixed reception on the charts, reaching number 34 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while reaching top-forty in some countries. Aguilera has said that she is planning to tour with the album.

Prime Circle commit rock in the first degree on EVIDENCE Very few rock groups hang around long enough to record a fifth album, but that's ironically how long it often takes for a band to hit its straps and mature into its sound. Nowhere is this more the case than with SA Music Award winners Prime Circle who, not content with being South Africa's top rock act, are now determined to set the quality bar even higher with the release of their hotly anticipated new album, EVIDENCE. This new release undoubtedly sees the band confirming their staying power in a fickle industry. But more than that, it marks a progression of their sound, and a collision of several strands of dynamic tension and creativity into a cohesive, often exhilarating whole. More than a decade since they broke out of Witbank with a sound at once urgent and penetrating, invigorating and intense, the five-piece are gelling as a collective more than ever before – and this unity of purpose is on display on their thrilling new album. Explains singer and principle songwriter Ross Learmonth: “This time we went into Theo [Crous]'s studio with a different approach – there had to be a unanimous vote. “We all come from very different backgrounds and listen to different – and also similar – types of music. I always want to move on to the next thing, Marco holds on to things for longer and can appreciate them over time, Dale's this crazy dude who just loves playing, Neil likes the colours of the music and the way it moves. And for Dirk, as an axeman, it's all about tone for him. “Everyone looks at the music differently, so it's always been hard to get a unanimous vote.” But with EVIDENCE, their consensual approach meant Learmonth's songwriting different patterns. Listened to in its entirety, the album displays the multiple variations and was painted with every band member's complementary textures, tones and shades of which the band is capable. arrangements. The album began taking shape at Schnettler's Bat Mountain Audio studios Says Learmonth: “EVIDENCE is a conscious effort for us to progress, and sometimes in order to before the band headed to Cape Town to work with Crous on the fine-tuning. do that you need to get rid of demons by tackling hard topics – but there are also some songs Much of the impetus for the album can be traced back to Prime Circle's movements since with sunny dispositions. So, what does the crime scene investigation of EVIDENCE reveal? “It's evident that exposure to the discerning and knowledgeable European market. we are still out there and relevant,” says Learmonth. “We're not playing by the rules on this one. With a markedly rockier sensibility than usual, the album was an “emotional rollercoaster” to craft. “Lyrically, you put yourself on the chopping block and question yourself,” admits Learmonth. “It was scary at times, but we did it the way we wanted to do We're still making music after all this time and are proudly doing our thing in South Africa, after it. We had to relook at ourselves, dig in and reinvent ourselves musically, instead of staying many other rock bands have come and gone.” Based on the physical evidence at hand, it may be fair to deduce that Prime Circle are hitting their musical prime. Case closed! stuck in a rut.” Prime Circle is often perceived as a soft-rock or contemporary-rock band, primarily due to EVIDENCE track listing: the album cuts generally favoured by radio stations. They hope this will change with Evidence: The album's storyboard, design concept and viral marketing campaign are based on EVIDENCE, which does feature contemplative numbers but is also more guitar-driven, the title track, which traces a parallel between a breakup and a murder scene. with Learmonth and Bisschoff pinching, riffing and having fun playing around with - Continued on Page 28

When a relationship ends, one is still left with the evidence – old letters, mug shots, photos – as a reminder of what led to the carnage. More broadly, the song alludes to the crime situation in South Africa, which Prime Circle are often asked about when they tour overseas. Here, they choose not to draw a veil over the reality but plant the topic firmly in the public sphere. The band say the track, one of the heavier but also “hookier” songs on the album, was literally “written in seconds and tracked the same day. It was almost plucked out of thin air and came out of nowhere – it was serendipitous and super-cool.” More importantly: it's a crunching, killer track. Change: This song was motivated by the infomercial mindset – “buy this and you'll be a better person”. It's about how people try to impress others or fit into their world by buying stuff they don't need – but “I'm not gonna change for anybody”. The track features a strong and exuberant guitar presence that sees the band clearly revelling in the layers of music they're f o r g i n g . Time Kills us All: The first single from the album has powered on to the local airwaves, reeling in devotees with its epic, anthemic sensibility. Brickfields Music Festival Unlimited with 8ta Following the wild success of the second edition in March, Brickfields Festival returns to pioneering, inner-city venue Carfax on Saturday, 24th November. Organisers have steered clear of mainstream sounds and delivered a refined, left-of-centre line-up showcasing home grown talent of the cutting-edge variety. Young guns and veterans; acoustic and electronic - a banquet of styles and sounds promises to cater for all tastes.

He also did session work in the legendary Chalk Farm studios. After fighting a five year battle with drugs, Will entered a monastery and lived quietly for 3 years. On leaving the monastery, Will joined a cult who follow the path of the Holy Grail.

Taking place at Carfax and its surrounding streets and parking lots, the third Brickfields brings together a hefty line-up of thirty acts which are divided between four stages from the afternoon and into the night. A mix of live and electronic defines the Brickfields experience and festival organizers have left little to be desired with a line-up bursting with innovative local talent. This year sees a strong Cape Town contingent whose sonic fare should prove enticing. Proceedings will kick off at one in the afternoon and will continue until the early hours of the morning. As before, guitars rule the daytime portion of the program. Afrikaans punk rock band Van Coke Kartel headlines The Live Stage along with Shadowclub and the hotly tipped Beast – a quartet of members from leading bands fronted by Inge Beckman. Tumi will perform alongside Yesterday’s Pupil. Spoek Mathambo, Kite Rider, Shortstraw, BCUC and Machineri complete an impressive live line-up. You’ll find the crème de la crème of deep house and techno acts on the TOY TOY stage. Fans of the collective’s Friday nights will be pleased to see residents Dogstarr, Fabio, Sound Sensible and Rob Sloan doing what they do best. Craig Massiv and Floyd Lavine will dish up their distinct deep house while Cape Town’s Monique Pascall will perform solo and with Ivan Turanjanin under the pair's Space Time Continuum guise. Festival favourite, acclaimed electronica artist Felix Laband returns to the stage for the third year running. The stellar Red Bull Sound System is back to compliment The Carfax Stage – which will serve up a selection of more alternative electronic styles to get lost to. Festival-goers can look forward to electro, dubstep and various other strains of bass music.

Now mostly a recluse, Will lives in a small castle in Monaghan Ireland and has found new respect as a guitarist from a new wave of young musicians who have discovered his original songs and inspirational guitar playing.

CUNNING BRAD - Guitars,Passion and Rock 'n Roll! I didn't know the name Brad Cunningham when I received a message from him on LinkedIn a while back but I accepted his request and I am immensely glad I did! Centurion-based Brad started telling me a bit about his music project 'Cunning Brad', where he is and where he hopes to be, and just by reading his mails, I could already tell that this man has ambition and a sincere love of music that is not seen nearly enough these days. Passion just pours out of this guy. It's almost intoxicating. He sent me copies of his first album 'Big Cigar' as well as his latest offering, 'Back to Life'. Toetapping good tunes! From the first track on 'Big Cigar', also entitled 'Big Cigar', you're transported into the story of a musician trying to see his name in lights and that, I think, epitomises Brad's story. Cunning Brad is music as music should be. Real people playing real instruments with honest lyrics that tell stories you can relate to. The follow-up album, 'Back to Life', has been described as 'lyrically loaded melodic rock' And that's a pretty apt description. It has a more 'mature' sound and is definitely worth a listen for any old-school, rock 'n roll fan. The single 'Rock 'n Roll Afterglow' has already got a bit of radio play and the official music video is up on YouTube. Many hands assisted in the making of the albums. Each one had a different producer (who also played some of the instruments) and as band members were often changing, Brad also called in session musicians. He told me that he would like to raise his public profile and get permanent band members when he can offer more regular gigs. He's seen first-hand how tough the music industry can be but at the same time knows it can incredibly rewarding so he marches on with his guitar in hand and fire in his heart. Cunning Brad has rocked crowds from Egypt to Botswana and from Namibia to Swaziland. Closer to home, they've had well-received shows at Barnyard Theatres, the Lyric, West End and Globe theatres, Monte Casino, Carnival City and The Boma as well as performing at many festivals such as KKNK, Aardklop, Innibos and Up the Creek among others. They've even played in rock tribute shows and the 'U2 Tribute'show. These guys have been busy! They've reached new fans through various interviews in magazines such as The Riff, SA Guitarist and Keyboard and Black Mountain as well as being featured on SABC3's Expresso. These guys are going places! Aside from writing all the lyrics, which he says all spawn from personal ideas and experiences, he also plays acoustic and electric guitars and even the harmonicawhich gives some of his songs a great 'bluesy' feel. Although Cunning Brad steers more towards old-school rock 'n roll, they can also play from light jazz to what Brad likes to call 'kick-ass rock 'n roll'! Their music is predominantly in English but they are happy to throw a bit of Afrikaans and Zulu flavour into the mix. I told you‌talented! For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live, have no fear. They are also available for corporate functions, weddings etcetera and with their electric stage presence and hi-tech equipment, they are sure to spice up any function. Strong emphasis is put on audience participation so if you want to see the boss doing a solo on air guitar at this year's Christmas function then get hold of these guys! Brad's aim, short of world domination, I think, is to raise his band's profile in the local music industry by being a versatile, multi-talented and affordable act that boasts a unique sound and a broad repertoire. He wants to entertain and engage audiences while still exposing his original music to a large market. Brad is looking at getting started on a new album and I also hear that beside his musical pursuits, he'll be starring in a small supporting role in a local film due for release sometime early next year so keep an eye out for that too. In the meantime, check out their website at www.cunningbrad.co.za to read some of the great testimonials and find out more about this passionate muso and his band or have a look at their live performances on YouTube and book these lads for your next function. Give him a shout on brad@cunningbrad.co.za ! For the official music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcVdCI-mKj0 - Nicole Silvester - SAMusic News

Animals in Distress is a dynamic society offering a sterilization procedures in an effort to alleviate the everunique approach to animal welfare. increasing problem of over-breeding. Since the establishmentof Animals in Distress in 1958, they have endeavoured to protect and treat animals in need and to educate and empower others to do the same. Small and large domestic animals belonging to people from eight informal settlements in Gauteng and Tshwane, who would otherwise not receive professional veterinary services, are cared for with love, skill and endless patience. Situated in Midrand, the 11.7 acre farm, known fondly as 'The Paddocks' is our centre of hope and healing. Animals in Distress is a professional, non-profit organisation consisting of pro-active, hands-on permanent staff who are all passionately and completely dedicated to the welfare and needs of animals.

What they do:

With 800 000 formal dwellings in Tembisa alone, SAID has the unparalleled task of providing care to the animals of some 5 million owners as well as advising and imparting knowledge to these owners on basic preventative measures. AWAs will also endeavour to trace owners of animals found on the streets. SAID is not a 'homing' organisation or an adoption agency. All animals in our care have owners.

Education By far the most vital and important aspect of the Society, is to reduce animal suffering and neglect by educating people. Teaching the young and the old to treat animals with respect is an essential starting point for the Society. SAID's ongoing Education Programme is to be found currently in 67 schools.
