Designing Private Computer Networks

Designing Private Computer Networks Private computer networks or intranets are common among large corporate business organizations. These networks are accessible only through company computers and may be limited only within a building or a compound. Unlike the Internet, intranets are purely for business use. Data that are essential in business operations are accessible through these internal computer networks. Data may include inventories of stocks, employee bio data, payrolls, transaction records, and manuals. Designing private computer networks is not as straightforward as connecting to the Internet. Computer hardware and software applications must be configured based on specifications. For instance, there is always a need for hierarchical access and security authorization. Designing an intranet system is not just a matter of connecting various computers using cables, routers and wireless means. It is also about configuring the various hardware and software applications. More often than not, software applications need to be customized based on the specific needs of the business. There are a few software platforms that can be used for a wide variety of purposes in terms of corporate internal networks. SharePoint is one of these few platforms that can be configured in different ways. This platform is particularly useful in real-time communication and collaboration. Aside from processing units, a private network may also include peripheral hardware such as facial recognition or retinal scanners, security cameras, and alarm systems.
