Community SPOT LIGHT ON BRAMLEY PARISH COUNCIL A Word From Bramley Parish Council Welcome to this issue of Bramley Community Spotlight. The parish council are receiving many comments about this publication and our thanks go to Matthew and his team at Snazzle Ltd. for all the hard word and commitment they are putting in to producing Spotlight each month. Residents are getting in touch with us as a result of this and it is great to hear their views and comments. Please continue to contact us. As I write this I have just come through the village and I am pleased to say the baskets and flowers are looking fantastic. Many thanks go to our gardeners John Smith and Shaun Barrett who have put many hours of work into the planting. It is especially good to see the village Memorial Garden looking so good. One disappointing event is the theft of a number of bedding plants from the bottom of Church Lane, not only after the efforts of John and Shaun, but it is at a cost to us a community. The Parish Council have two new councillors, Cllr Gill Yeardley and Cllr George Breen. They will be getting involved in aspects of our work within the community over the coming weeks. Cllr Westley Wood is working on a new web site for the parish council and the village. There will be sections where we can post minutes from the parish council meetings, news and events, and a photo gallery, history of the village and profiles of your parish council. If you have any old pictures of the village or any information regarding the history please contact Cllr Wood by email wjw_wood@yahoo.co.uk. Carnival Preparations for the village carnival are going ahead at a pace. We are unable to have a parade this year as we had hoped. This is due to South Yorkshire police being unable to commit to closing the main Bawtry Rd due to the budget cuts etc. So we will be having a smaller “parade” starting at Bentley Rd and progressing up the verge on Flash Lane and onto the playing fields where the Mayor and Mayoress will be waiting to open the carnival. This will be lead by Bramley Brass Band and will involve the carnival Queen and the acts that will be entertaining us throughout the day. There are still places for stalls at the carnival if you are interested contact glynstaves1@hotmail.co.uk. Or on 07872959762. As mentioned previously the carnival with wild west show, dog agility , birds of prey, football tournament and fun fair will be on Saturday 3rd September and the “Bramfest” music festival will be on Sunday 4th. Bramfest will have live bands on Flash Lane playing fields and also musical entertainment in St Francis Church hall.

The parish council have also engaged a singer to go into Cambron House to entertain the residents. There is still time for entries for the Carnival Queen for girls between 9 and 15 who live in the parish. Contact Cllr Staves for information. Carnival Logo Children from Bramley Grange and Bramley Sunnyside school have been helping out the carnival committee by designing a logo for this years carnival. There were many entries and the carnival committee had a hard job to find the winning entries. The winning logo will be used on the advertising posters, T-shirts and carnival programme for this years carnival which is to be held on 3rd and 4th September. The judges picked the top three entries from each school and then the overall winner. The winners will be invited to the carnival on Saturday 3rd September to receive their prize's. The Logo Competition Winners Bramley Sunnyside: 1st Emily Lankenau 2nd Keara Harper 3rd Rory Hutton Bramley Grange: 1st Gerogia Green 2nd Charlotte Osborn 3rd Caitlin Deakin The overall winner is Emily Lankenau from Bramley Sunnyside school. So look out for Emily's design on posters around the area. The carnival committee would like to thank everyone who took part and the staff at both schools for their help and enthusiasm. Citizen of the Year Last year the Parish Council started an award for an award to a resident of Bramley who contributed to the life of the village. There are many people who do good deeds and go un noticed. Last years winner was Keith Burrell and he was nominated by Rev Wortley and this was the nomination :

I wish to nominate Mr Keith Burrell of 8 Progress Drive, Bramley for the Citizen of the Year Award. Keith is a kind, trustworthy, reliable and hardworking gentleman although now a retired engineer and carer for his wife Morfydd, Keith is an extremely self-giving and selfless person, who does much work 'behind the scenes' to help and bless others. He is a person many turn to when in need of a listening ear or some practical household help. Keith manages a local allotment as well as helping others tend
