SCC TUTORING CENTER

when should you access the tutoring center?

what are the other alternatives to face-to-face tutoring?

Tutoring is a wonderful resource for all students at any stage of the learning process. If a student is struggling to understand an assignment, organize a plan, or understand specific course content, it’s time to seek help. The most successful students know when it’s time to ask for help, and they do it!

SCC students have access to the eTutoring Consortium. This site offers students the opportunity to access online tutoring in various subjects every day of the week. For more information, please see page

What subject areas are offered through the SCC Tutoring Center?

A student should come to a tutoring session knowing what he or she wants to accomplish during their time with the tutor. Students should always bring a copy of their assignment, their text, and any drafts or current problems they are working on. They should also bring a positive attitude and be preapared to focus on the topic.

For on-ground tutoring, we have tutors for the following subjects:

- General Biology - Microbiology - Anatomy - Physiology I & II - Physics - Chemistry - Nutrition - Math (All Levels) - Writing (All Courses) - Psychology & Sociology - Philosophy (Including Logic) - American Sign Language - Spanish (All Levels)

Do you offer online tutoring? Yes, the SCC Tutoring Center offers Witing and Spanish tutring via Cranium Cafe. Tutors will be available until 6:30 PM Monday through Thursday starting Feb 2nd.

How much prep work will you need prior to attending a session?

how to set up an appointment with the tutoring center All on-ground tutoring centers are drop-in. So feel free to stop in to get help. The Math Lab, will be open until 6:00 PM starting Feb 2nd.

sfcc TUTORING CENTER

What is the biggest challenge students face when considering receiving tutoring?

Besides face-to-face tutoring sessions, what other options are available to students?

More often than not, students who tend to avoid tutoring view tutoring as remedial. This is not the case. Tutoring is used to review class instruction, and prepare for future exams.

For those students who are online, are just unable to make it into the Tutoring Center, they offer a variety of online tutoring opportunities such as, Skype, Blackboard Collaborate, Khan Academy, and/or Cranium Cafe.

What are some of the benefits of using Peer-to-peer tutoring? One of the greatest benefits with our Peerto-Peer tutoring program is that when a student schedules an appointment, they have the added benefit of knowing that their tutor has not only taken that subject, but recieved a 3.5 or above in it.

What if a student cannot make it in for tutoring? If a tutor is not available for a given subject, the student can access the eTutoring Consortium. The consortium is make of a large number of schools who offer online tutoring throughout the nation. SFCC does its part by offering writing tutoring in the consortium.

What are some of the subjects that are offered at the tutoring center? what are the hours of operation? The SFCC Tutoring Center offers a wide variety of subject areas such as:

- Art - Accounting - Economics - Astronomy - Chemistry - Business - Management - History - French

And many more! For a full listing, please access their website.

The SFCC Tutoring Center is open five days a week with limited hours on Friday, and tutoring sessions are by appointment only.
