REFLECTION: Recently our church has been addressing a common discussion among our members about living in fear The subject keeps coming up and there is a real reason for this fear The wor ld around us has tur ned its back on God, but let me say, I ser ve a God who does not cause fear for His children He offers loving comfor t that helps overcome the fears of this wor ld This next Sunday’s message, and the devotion for the week, will address what it means to live in reverent fear Peter is talking to the obedient children of God who have accepted Chr ist as Savior As Chr ist’s children we are to put on the character of God the Father himself Peter tells us how we can live in relationships with one another, especially when people are surrounded by fear We are to star t by offer ing God’s grace and love to those living with fear and anxiety Do not look upon a person who might be wear ing a mask, look at their hear t Jeremiah 5:3 They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent This is not tr ue for those who confess their sins and receive God’s gift of eter nal life As a newbor n child of Chr ist, God’s wrath is no longer upon you God is ver y pleased and will give you great comfor t in times of uneasiness

Janet Louise Brown, age 72, of Quincy, died Monday, April 10, 2023 at 9:45 a m in Sunset Home She was born November 18, 1950 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Paul W and Helen D Brown She lived in Plainwell, MI for 16 years and in Manistee, MI for two years before moving with her parents to Quincy in November of 1968 Janet was a 1969 graduate of Quincy High School After graduation she attended Gem City Business College from 1970 to 1971 She was employed by Pepsi for 13 years, from 1971 until 1984 She also worked at Casey's, K's Merchandise, Rex TV and Appliance, and Johannes Janet was employed as a bookkeeper at the Quincy Herald Whig from 1990 until her retirement in 2006 She was a former member of the Women of Moose and a member of the Mark Twain Corvette Club She joined Great River Corvette Club and Rocky Point Club She bowled for several years and enjoyed motor sports, including racing, tractor pulls, motorcycles, and showing her red '62 Corvette Her favorite NASCAR driver was Clint Bowyer, and she attended several races with friends starting in 2008 Going in her Winnebago was her favorite way to travel She enjoyed Current River and Meremac with the Canoe Girls for nine years She and the other "Birthday Girls" would gather at Gem City Pizzeria, a tradition since her 40th birthday Janet loved to travel She especially enjoyed spending time in Panama City Beach with her friends and wintering near her aunt and uncle in Texas She liked taking bus trips to casinos, and she spent several weekends at her camper in Whispering Oaks Survivors include her aunt Margie Laverack, of Plainwell, MI; her family, Greg (Becky) Harvey, and their children Bill and Dan Harvey, and Matt Harvey and his son Adam Harvey, all of Massachusetts; and numerous close friends She was preceded in death by her parents, her uncle Ken Laverack, and her cat “Scottie" Friends gathered to celebrate Janet's life at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home on Monday, April 17, 2023 A celebration of life will also be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, 2:00- 4:00pm, at the Otsego VFW Post 3030 in Otsego, Michigan Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell, Michigan Memorials made in Janet's name to the American Cancer Society or to the Quincy Humane Society, where she adopted Scottie, would be appreciated

Richard Dooley, Jr passed away Wednesday April 12, 2023 in Otsego, MI Richie was born December 8, 1970 in Kalamazoo to Richard and Janice Dooley and was a lifelong resident of the Otsego area Richie worked for many years at Upper Crust Restaurant in town until they closed Surviving are his daughter Heather Everitt, grandchildren Jazmyne, Abygale, and Bryce, siblings Robin (Steve) Folk, Leroy (Sue) Johnson, Sherry (Dave) Meyer, Dawn Raulston, Bobby Johnson, and Becky (Mike) Staley as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews Preceding him in death are both his parents Richard and Janice Richie was always happiest riding his bike around town and stopping in to visit with all his family and friends

A celebration of life for Richie will be held on May 7th from 2-4pm at the American Legion in Otsego Contributions in memory of Richard may be made to ProMedica Hospice of Kalamazoo

Merlin S Grinage passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 96 at Brookdale Memory Care in Portage, Michigan Merlin was born on September 17, 1926 in Orangeville Township, the son of Seth and Hazel (Myers) Grinage Merlin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara; brothers: Harland, Garland; sisters: Vera June, Rollene, Dorothy, Helen, Virginia, and Donnabelle He is survived by sons: Ronald (Deb) Grinage, Terry (Nancy) Grinage, David (Liz) Grinage; step children: Jill (Tim) Jones, Tom (Sue) McGraw; sister, Marjory Quinn; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews Merlin “Red” retired from Consumers Power after 40 years of service and also served our country in the United States Marines during WWII He loved to golf, fish, hunt, and spend time with his family And boy, did he love to dance! Jo Ann passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, in Cooper Township Jo Ann was born on February 6, 1933, to Lyle and Rosella (Sherwood) Sprague in Allegan, Michigan She graduated from Plainwell High School in 1950 As the mother of four, she returned to school, earning her LP and RN She and her mother were the founders of Cunningham Nursing Home in 1966 During the early 1990s she opened several adult foster care homes in the area two of which remain in operation today Jo Ann is survived by two daughters: Lyle Ann Mann and Pamela Tanner; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren Preceding her in passing are her parents and her children, Daniel Cunningham, and Reba Jane Snyder Jo Ann was cremated in accordance with her wishes

A memorial gathering will be held on April 29, 2023 from 1-5pm at the Main Street Pub, 5462 Gull Rd #5, Kalamazoo, MI 49048
