Tom was born on July 30, 1943 to Richard (Dick) and Hazel Laws, the third of four children Shortly after graduating Otsego High School he went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1965-1971 Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Michigan where he worked as a millwright and spent many weekends helping his parents run Camp Mana Pine Tom adored his time with his children and grandchildren, taking every opportunity to pass down any and all knowledge they were willing (and not so willing) to hear He was known for his long entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat, often! Tom was handsome, charismatic and quite the ladies man but his lifelong love affair was with PBR, pickled eggs, spam, “sweaty” cheese, and ice cream He firmly believed that Chevy or GMC were the only acceptable vehicles to own and that country music was the only “real music nowadays” Known as a dancer, Tom never turned down an opportunity on the dance floor He even won a few competitions dancing the jitterbug with his sisters, Nancy and Becky He absolutely loved the outdoors; whether it be fishing, hunting, or simply sitting around the fire tipping back a beer (or few) with family and friends alike For retirement Tom made his way back up north, building his dream cabin in the woods close by the river He took great pleasure in being the getaway spot for so many of his friends and family Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel; father, Dick; brother, Larry and beloved dog, Niko He is survived by his children: Thomas Laws Jr, Richard Laws, Amy (Robert) Jimenez, step-son Robert (Mary) Madarik; his sisters: Nancy Holmes and Becky (Bill) Holden; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews A memorial luncheon will be held March 4th, 12-3pm at the VFW 3030 in Otsego, MI A celebration of life, Tom’s style, will take place at a later date In lieu of flowers family ask that donations be made to the Auxiliary Club of VFW 3030 in Tom’s honor

Bonnie passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at her home in Kalamazoo She was born August 16, 1949 in Niles, the daughter of Carley and Belva (Gregory) Daniel For many years Bonnie was a medical assistant at Bronson Hospital
After her retirement she enjoyed volunteering in the NICU and at Alamo Elementary as a reading aide Bonnie loved quilting and had made many quilts for all of her family Bonnie’s world revolved around her family, especially her granddaughter who she loved spending time with Bonnie was a member of the Alamo Community Congregational Church, now Restoration Church of Alamo On January 12, 1970 she married Michael Mattison who passed away in 2017 Surviving are her son, Brian (Jennifer) Mattison; granddaughter, Aubrey; siblings, Betty Simmons and Jeanette Sikkenga along with many nieces and nephews, including a special niece who was like a daughter, Wendy (Julie) Sikkenga She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Jane Lamphear and Dan Daniel Friends may visit with Bonnie’s family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A M , Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Restoration Church of Alamo with Pastor Don Boss officiating Cremation will follow Contributions in memory of Bonnie may be made to Restoration Church of Alamo or to Bronson Health Foundation, 301 John Street, Box 73, Kalamazoo MI 49007, Attn: Children’s Hospital Fund NICU or at bronsonfoundation com/donate

How would we define the good life? One might define a good life as having a nice family, good health, wealth, or power There is nothing wrong with these things, yet none of them have eter nal significance One can have all of these things and yet fall shor t of the kingdom of God
We all know people whom we would descr ibe as good people Years ago, in offer ing comfor t to a woman who had lost her husband, I said to her, “He was such a good man ” She replied, “You didn’t have to live with him!” (Whoops!)
We judge people by who they are; God judges people by Whose they are We look at the outward appearance, God looks at the hear t (I Samuel 16:7) By today’s standard, Jesus would not be considered a great person He did not have mater ial wealth He did not have a place to call home He would not be considered highly educated Yet He was r ich in things that count, at home wherever He went, and was the smar test and wisest person who ever lived
To be considered good by Biblical standards would be to emulate Him Enter a man named Bar nabas Among other things, Bar nabas was known as “a good man full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord” (Acts 1:24) Can the same be said of us?
The question is how does God define the good life? Let us consider three descr iptions of the good life These are also major themes of the Lenten season
1 A LIFE OF SERVICE
Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be ser ved, but to ser ve and give his life as a ransom for many” (Mar k 10:45) There is one standard for ser vice and that is ser ving for the glor y of God
2 A LEGACY OF LOVE
Jesus set the standard (and example) for love When we love others as Jesus loves them we can be sure we are living by His example A young gir l was asked how she would define love She responded “Compassion is love with skin on it ”
3. A SACRIFICIAL LOVE
The Chr istian life can be summar ized in one verse: John 3:16 “For God so loved the wor ld, God gave God’s One and Only Son, that whoever b e l i eve s i n H i m s h a l l n o t p e r i s h , bu t h ave ever lasting life ”
Question: Are we living the good life?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to live an exemplar y life, following Your example In Your strong name Amen

Otsego Public Schools Awarded Planning
Grant for School-Based Health Center
OTSEGO – Otsego Public Schools is proud to be one of 26 districts across the state to receive g rant funding from the state of Michigan to expand access to health care for our students The focus of the Child and Adolescent Health Center Prog ram Planning Grant, through the Michigan Depar tment of Health and Human Services (M DH H S), is to fill a need for health services to children, specifically in areas where mental and primary health care services aren’t accessible to children and adolescents, require enhancement, or do not currently exist
“Otsego Public Schools is considered a rural district and has one Primary Care Physician to serve students and families In addition, the district does not have a mental health provider within district boundaries,” explains Jeff Haase, Otsego Public Schools
Superintendent “This Child and Adolescent Health Center would provide an oppor tunity for our families to receive immediate services for both physical and mental health, on site, which in turn would decrease the amount of time students are absent from school and missing crucial learning opportunities ”
Establishment of a school-based health center is a par tnership between a school, parents and a sponsoring medical agency
Otsego has established a Community Advisory Council and is par tnering with Ascension Health Care, Allegan County Health Depar tment and OnPoint While the location is yet to be determined, Otsego plans to place it in an existing facility on our main campus This would be the only clinic of its kind in an Allegan County school district
Within a school-based health center, medical services are provided by a medical provider: a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician All clinical sites offer mental health services provided by a licensed master’s level mental health provider (i e , counselor or social worker)
Otsego Public Schools has received a total of $100,000; $75,000 to conduct local planning to determine the feasibility, community commitment, and documented need for implementing a health center or School Wellness Prog ram, and $25,000 for sites who successfully complete planning g rant objectives and are approved for renovation and equipment/supplies to star t their prog ram The plan needs to be submitted over the summer “The planning phase of the prog ram is underway and we hope to have the health center up and running in 2024,” Haase adds The Advisory Council is made up of school staff, parents, health representatives and clinicians from the sponsoring provider

Savannah was brought to the Allegan County Animal Shelter as a stray after she was found under the trestle of a br idge with an injured neck and underweight Her neck is healing and she is wor king on gaining weight W hatever the circum stances were before her time at the shelter have caused her to be initially ner vous of new people and environments It doesn't take her long to war m up to those who go slow with her and once you ve gained her tr ust she is SO affectionate She can even be a little pushy if you aren't giving her the pets she deser ves! As she gets more comfor table with the shelter staff, they get to see more of her loving, fun personality! She has some work to do on her manners, but she's socially motivated which makes her a joy to wor k with Savannah could join a home with kids and/or dogs She gets along with other dogs, but is selective when it comes to her fr iends She could join a hom e with a neutral or passive dog who doesn't mind her initial intensity If there's a dog in the family, a meet and greet will be conducted to make sure they're a good m atch At this tim e, she would do best with kids 10 or older
